...M5.05 Leading innovation and change 1. Explain the importance of innovation for own organisation 1. Explain the importance of innovation for own organization I work in an authority responsible to implement the EU legislation in our country. One of the aims of the organization is to draft policies and to attend meetings concerning the EU policies. EU regulations are directly applicable to each Member State, while directives need to be transposed by the responsible officials. Before any decisions are taken consultations are carried out with the industry, the general public and any interested stakeholders. When a legal tool is in place there is always a transition in which the regulation is implemented hence the industry and the public will have ample time to the new regulations. During this time awareness and publicity is necessary so that we reach as many concerned people as possible. Innovation is important within my organization since there is the need to find new ways to increase publicity of the organization and at the same time we need to educate the public. We are not very reactive to the outside environment hence we need to become more innovative and inherently more adaptable to the external environment. This will allow us to be proactive and more effectively to capture opportunities. Innovation within my organization is needed, mainly in the following aspects: • Service innovation – where new and better service offerings to customers should...

...Unit 2 Assignment 1 – The Role of Leaders in Innovation MBA6006 – Leading Innovation Global Org Shyla Hasal Capella University INTRODUCTION With the changes in technology and globalization, most organizations today are faced with a dynamic environment. It is important that organizations operating in today’s economy need to be more artistic and innovative to stay alive, to contend, to develop, and to lead. Innovative companies are almost always led by innovative leaders (Dyer, 2011). Leaders are people who are able to think and act creatively in non-routine situations – and who set out to influence the actions, beliefs and feelings of others (Doyle, 2001). Classical Leadership First, to lead involves influencing others. Second, where there are leaders there are followers. Third, leaders seem to come to the fore when there is a crisis or special problem. In other words, they often become visible when an innovative response is needed. Fourth, leaders are people who have a clear idea of what they want to achieve and why (Doyle, 2001). Literature over the last 80 year list four main “generations” theories of leadership which are: Trait theories, Behavioral theories, Contingency theories, and Transformational theories. Strategic Leadership Strategic leaders must develop and maintain a culture that fosters and encourages innovation, and invest in the development and exploitation of innovation (Pellet, 2008). According to Krupp (2013), most executives do not consider...

...always so, there are times where conflict can bring unexpected qualities from people – change a person for the better. Humans are stubborn, without being naturally stubborn, humans would have not evolved like we did. Furthermore, conflict leads to the building of strong relationships amongst those involved. An agreement is formed between people with the same goal of overcoming conflict; they can support each other through this hardship. During “Omagh”, the Help and Support group had Protestants and Catholic members. Even though the two did not blend together before, they were united in conflict. Additionally, the United Nations was formed on the basis of this idea - People had the same beliefs about world peace and formed an organization leading the charge for a better world. When people fight for the same cause, they are united together as one. People change for the better. However, every coin has two sides. Conflict is not always virtuous; it breeds suffering. Goal Setting Goal Setting is one of the main skills needed in order to succeed in higher education, it helps you set a timeline, maintain organization, and gives you an idea of how far you’ve gone, and how much you have accomplished in your class. I haven’t always been a goal setter. It wasn’t until my second year in the Army when I was in Afghanistan surrounded by dirt, and trees slumped in a hot little wooden hut with seven other men doing the same boring routine, when our boss the Section Chief wanted to change things up. He told us we had one month to complete at least ten hours of correspondent courses, which are kind of like online college classes, except it was for the Army. Knowing that he wouldn’t take it lightly if I blew off the task, I one had to...

...Defining Diversity Defining Diversity * To me, diversity encompasses a wide range of elements in which to classify a student population. It includes the obvious such as race/ethnicity, culture, gender, disabilities, and socio-economic status. However, diversity goes so much deeper. Diversity also includes the various cognitive levels in students, the different styles in which they learn, and the various levels of motivation in students. Each of these diversity categories can be evidenced in an educational setting. The impact it has on a school can be positive if it is approached and handled appropriately by the school and its’ teachers. If it is not, it can have very negative effects on the school and the student. Having low expectations and showing bias toward one diverse group over another can have a very negative and lasting impact. It is important to acknowledge that ALL students can achieve if given the motivation and encouragement to do so. According to Janine Bempechat, high achievers in all ethnic groups believed that success was die to hard work. She concluded, “Teachers need to help low achievers understand that poor performance does not result from a lack of ability as much as from lack of trying” (Nieto & Bode, 2008). It is for this reason that it is of utmost importance that teachers convey positive messages to their students. Building self-esteem can be the first step in academic achievement. If students do not believe they have the ability...
