Learning Styles and Bloom’s Taxonomy

Abstract
Bloom’s Taxonomy was created for academic education as a measure of skills and mastery of subjects. It focuses on three areas described as Cognitive, Affective and Psychomotor domains. Cognitive measures the knowledge, Affective the Attitude and Psychomotor the skills. Each domain consists of 6 stages of learning that fit with each domain. This analysis is applied to assess a student’s college level learning and potential course credit.

Learning Styles and Bloom’s Taxonomy The student in the sample narrative demonstrated various areas of expertise in the area of Acting Performance. Her qualifications, to accept the invitation to audition, were extensive with past roles in TV, theater and previous college level education. This background gave her the knowledge she needed to successfully audition and be awarded the lead role in the school production. She was able to draw from her past experiences to properly research the role and develop the character to fit the directors’ vision.
The student had a strong understanding of what practices she required to make the challenging role successful, and her research into the time, setting and persons of the Ah! Wilderness time period was evident as she demonstrated her utilization of the cognitive behaviors of understanding, analysis and synthesis to work with the production team and fellow cast mates, as well the Affective behaviors of awareness, reaction and value to successfully work with the varying personalities. Her skills of imitation allowed her to mock the necessary accent to make the role believable and she developed the psychomotor skills of precision in her movements, vocal styling and sensory preparation through her work with the director, choreographer and vocal coach.
If I were to judge this students narrative, I would successfully award her the credits for credits in acting performance. For my own levels of learning, I frequently recall data from previous education and work experience to create spreadsheets and budget analysis. I am always ready to learn new things, and accept direction from teachers, co-workers and coaches. When I worked as a florist, and sometimes a baker, I was able to imitate things I saw so that I could recreate floral designs, cakes and sugar flowers. I have developed the precision and mastery of nearly all Microsoft office programs and cake decorating as well as floral design.
