...forward, but, didn’t complete it? I was a runner in high school. I ran various events, however, my primary race was the 800-meter. There were two of us in my high school who were pretty good at this particular race. During my senior year I was coming back from an injury and was very excited to begin the season after training throughout the fall and winter. I remember very vividly my first race of the year. My teammate and I were both scheduled to run the 800. Prior to the race, I went over to my teammate and said, “here we go! Lets get first and second!” For some reason in my mind, I was thinking that he would be first and I would be second. We started the race and I immediately got right behind him. I trailed him the entire way. From the beginning of the race to the end of the race, I followed him. We ended up being #1 and #2 that day and I was #2. I think back to that race today, all of the training, all of the effort and in the midst of that race, I didn’t give it my all. The gun fired and I was in the midst of the race, I didn’t have victory on my mind, I was willing to take 2nd. I was willing to run the perfect race until I got close to the finish line. Have you ever started well and come up short? Stepped out in pursuit of God’s best, but didn’t complete it. Have you ever settled for less or given half of your heart? This morning, I want to take a look at following Jesus wholeheartedly. In my walk and relationship with Jesus, there...

...friends to join the team, Rachel was about to meet the true runner that she was. “My grade school coach had us all line up in a straight line across the 10-yard-line and told us that we were to run as fast as our legs could take us to the other side of the field. Let me told you, I was incredibly nervous.” The very first run of Rachel Strons’s career was a race to see who was the fastest on the team, and she believed that she was not going to be that person. Runners ranging from fifth to eighth grade took their positions as the coach began to shout, “Ready. Set.” Before he could shout “go”, Rachel’s heart began to pound in her chest and her legs froze where she stood. She lost all hope of leaving the 10-yard-line....

...Medley Wait. Be still. Don't go over the line. Don't let go. Wait for it. "BANG!" My reactions were precise as I sprung out of the blocks. The sun was beating down on my back as my feet clawed at the blistering, red turf. With every step I took, my toes sunk into the squishy, foul smelling surface, as my lungs grasped for air. Everything felt the way it should as I plunged toward my destination. I clutched the baton in my sweaty palms, promising myself not to let go. My long legs moved me as fast as I could go as I hugged the corner of the line like a toddler hugging their favorite teddy bear. The steps were just like I had practiced. As I came closer to my final steps, my stomac started twisting and my heart beat began to rise. The different colors of arrows started to pass under my feet, and I knew it was time. "Reach," I yelled to Susan, whom had seemed unusually far away. Yelling, "Slow down, slow down," turned into "Stop!" Susan halted to a stop as the gold baton fell into her hands and she took off into a dead sprint. The red colored flag rose. We were disqualified from something that we all dreaded; going out of the exchange zone. I had never really been a part of a team that had a chance to win something, but the potential was always there. I finally got my chance to be a part of such a team my sophomore year of track. Mr. McCain, the head track coach, had decided to experiment with some different races to gain more team points. Since the girls' team lacked...

...Sunday Service (October 7, 2012) April Jade Bonoan How to Keep the Faith and Finish and Finish the Race. The Book of Hebrews is known for Its Hall of the Fame – the list is long in chapter 11 of the book of names of people of old who because of their faith made their way into God’s honor roll of the faithful. Reading the entire chapter, it made me wonder how they kept the faith. Today we are going to study the twelfth chapter of Hebrews. First thing we have to do is I. Have a Proper Start How we start determines how we end. Before we run the race, we have to let go of certain things. A lot Christians instead of having a proper start found themselves running yet stopping in the middle of the race. And once they stopped it was so hard to regain the track. Paul encourages his readers to lay aside every weight, and the sin that so easily ensnares. To finish the race is another way of saying that we have kept the faith. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. “ – 2 Timothy 4:7 A. Dead Works - The weight that Paul was referring to here that we should lay aside, is not a sin. These are what we call the dead works. The bible says in 1 Corinthians 10:23 that all things are permissible, but not all things are beneficial. These are things that we could live better without. Just like in a race, the athletes have a choice what kind of clothing they would wear, but if they wanted to win, they must choose the light fabric. There are certain...

...Joy of long distance runner 1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. 2 We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne. 3 Think of all the hostility he endured from sinful people; then you won’t become weary and give up. Hebrews 12:1-3 NLT Introduction At 36-years-old, Meb Keflezighi won the Olympic marathon trials in Houston, U.S, becoming the oldest man to win the trials. Two years back he couldn’t walk and even move around his bed. due to an injury fractured hip he incurred Nov. 3, 2007, at the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials in New York City. He had struggled since his injury with a broken right hip, and was viewed as being too old for marathon or not able to perform at a high level because of his condition. He was virtually helpless while being confined to a bed. Nov. 1, 2009, the U.S. Marathon Championship, which was held in conjunction with the New York City Marathon –. he proved the doubters were wrong and crossed the line in a personal best 2 hours, 9 minutes, 15 seconds, beating the four-time Boston Marathon champion Robert Cheruiyot and become the first American to win the...

...The Christian Life The only way I felt I could express what living out a Christian Life is through a sermon. I am trying to be creative but I hope this isn’t too out of the box. I hope this is what you are searching for. What is the Christian Life? (Sermon Format) At the end of Apostle Paul’s ministry he looked back on his work and said, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” (II Timothy 4:7). When it comes to the Race of Life and the Christian Life, I think we have a series of choices. Every morning when we wake up you have a choices. * 1st- We can choose not to run, but if we don’t run we can’t win or we won’t succeed and we are surely not going to honor God. * 2nd- , We can choose to run but not run our best; and if we don’t run your best we are sure to lose and again are we truly going to honor God by doing this? * 3rd- , We can choose to run, meaning run our best, and strive for the prize by focusing on the finish, which is what God has asked of us. That’s exactly what the Apostle Paul wanted us to do in this passage of Scripture. If we are going to run the race and win the race, we are going to have to focus on the finish. The Christian Life is starts by knowing Jesus Christ as our one and only Savior which is which delivers what we are saved from. After making that decision I think we then have to find our purpose and determine what we are saved for. GALATIANS 6:7-10 says, 7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked;...

...“Strength to Endure” In our walk with God our journey gets a little tiring but I came to encourage having strength to endure this journey. God never promised that this earthly journey was going to be an easy one for any of us. The word endurance means: The ability or strength to continue or last, especially despite fatigue, stress, or other adverse conditions; stamina. “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfected of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:1-2 It’s about God’s glory. He can do anything… and I believe that He desires me to run this race with His endurance, for His glory. “By your endurance, you will gain your lives.” Luke 21:19 10 Bible Scripture Verses on Endurance Romans 15:4 For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. 2 Corinthians 1:6 If we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; and if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which you experience when you patiently endure the same sufferings that we suffer. Hebrews 10:36 For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God...

...The phenomena of detestation is as close to us as, if not closer than, our own self. We all can identify with one or another form of prejudice. Generally, we comprehend what it is to loathe or at least dislike with great passion, another human being. Early on in our lives, we make connections of attractions and repulsions towards others. From these feelings, we form opinion and preconceived notion towards the cause of these experiences, whether they are good or bad. In most of these instances, we are able to recognize what the results of harmful responses to others are. For instance If someone has harmed us or disappointed in some way, we may shrug it off as no big deal and keep going on with our day without hitting or shouting in retaliation. Generally, we are able to let go of negative feelings, but occasionally we may let those feelings and emotions get the best of us. On such occasions, we may perhaps lose control and become victims of our own fury. For example, a child who is constantly bullied by another child of a different race (lets say for instance an African American child) will in the long run tier of being bullied and possibly seek vengeance on his or her perpetrator. He or she will in future instances, associate the hurtful memories of the African American child with others of that same race. The child may or may not intentionally hold prejudice, but because he/she experienced unfavorable situations, will attribute the African American ethnic group and its people...

...of all races prepare to commemorate the 53rd Merdeka anniversary, I would like to stress once again the very fundamentals that have brought us together which are the very principles contained in the Rukun Negara, our national philosophy. Through its five tenets (Belief in God; Loyalty to the King and Country; Upholding the Constitution; Rule of Law, and Good Social Behaviour and Morality) the Rukun Negara has formed the principles of our nationhood and these should be inculcated in our younger generation who are the future leaders of our country. The Rukun Negara is our guide for nation-building and should be respected by all. It is a shared vision for national unity and its principles should always be upheld and practised. Many people are taking unity for granted. Even more saddening is that 40 years after the proclamation of the Rukun Negara, it appears that many have forgotten about its five tenets and what they stand for, while others still need to be reminded about the national philosophy. Some have again played to the race gallery for their own personal agenda and selfish ends. This is not a healthy development for in a multi-racial, mutli-religious and multi-cultural country like Malaysia, continuous effort must be made by all Malaysians to nurture and reinforce unity. We must be prepared to reduce our strong sense of ethnicity in order to achieve a “Bangsa Malaysia”. Malaysians should start accepting each other as Malaysians regardless of race and religion...

I would be running the anchor leg of the relay and it was completely on my shoulders to make sure that no matter what happened we we in the top three places when I crossed the finish line or the season would end without the glory of the state meet. Our first runner stepped up to the start line, it was a miracle that he was even running as just four weeks prior our coach had told him that he was done racing for the season due to injury. Then the gun went off and the eight lead offs were off around the opening turn. The race went out fast, but it always...

...We were born for one purpose. As soon as we came into the world we were ripped away from our mothers. Since we could remember, people in white coats experimented on us. Our only knowledge of the outside world came from the doctors’ whispers. From their whispers, our purpose became known. We were the cure. The world outside was ravaged by disease. As the disease ravished throughout the world, the human population drastically decreased. People were scared. They wanted answers. Once the answers never came, people took matters into their own hands. The government was on a verge of anarchy. The government issued the world’s top scientists to do whatever it takes to eradicate the disease. The scientists needed children. Their plan was to create...

...crucial to the advancement of individuals. Last spring, my Track and Field Relay Team set the new state record in the 1600m Sprint Medley Relay, which is composed of an 800m, a 400m, and two 200m runners. After achieving this triumph my relay team set out together to perform an even greater goal of being named All-American at the New Balance Nationals meet. The feat would require extreme determination and team-work but as a unit we knew we could reach this goal. The four of us spent hours reviewing the national rankings to determine our competition and calculating times we would need to run to finish in the top six at the meet. With our target times in mind, we began the process of improving both our speed and handoffs to limit any shortfalls in what would need to be a flawless execution of a relay race. Hours of extra practice came to an end as we boarded our plane to North Carolina to compete for the dream....

...friendship in order to dodge loneliness. Three main examples show this idea. The first example being Candy after his dog passed away. The second example being Curley’s wife and how she dealt with her loneliness and the third noteworthy example being how Crooks was treated on the ranch due to his race and disability. Each example presents the theme of how loneliness determines people to try and find friendship in order to dodge being lonely. Once Candy’s dog dies, he desperately goes searching for a new companion because he is trying to run away from the idea of being lonely. He idealizes becoming friends with George and Lennie once he overhears them talking about buying their dream ranch. “S’pose I went in with you guys. That’s three hundred and fifty buck I’d put in … How’d that be?” (pg.86 Steinbeck). Steinbeck shows us how Candy is tired of being in a place where he knows he is not wanted and how he’s starting to give up on himself after his dog got shot. Candy had had his dog as his companion from the very beginning. Candy is the only other character besides Lennie to have ever loved an animal. After Carlson took his dog to the back and shot it, instantly Candy became attached to George and Lennie’s dream to settle down on a farm. His sudden attachment to their plan shows he is grieving over the loss of his dog silently and is desperately trying to find a new companion. “Maybe if I give you guys my money, you’ll let me hoe in the garden even after I ain’t no good at it. An’...

...Everyday we fight these personal battles that has the power to weigh us down. For me, that enemy that I constantly fight is self doubt. Like most people, I doubt myself. I worry whether or not I’ll be good enough to get into a good college or be in a place where I am happy in the future. I lack the confidence and belief that I will ever come close to winning a race against a faster runner. Whether or not I know it, I constantly tell myself that I cannot do this or that it would be impossible to do that. I have this constant mindset that just puts me down and ultimately it costs me, it keeps me from striving for the impossible. The constant mindset that self doubt creates ultimately weighs one down therefore making it difficult to strive ahead....
