...Dear Mr. Gritsch After analyzing the three project proposals, my team has concluded that the project that would be best to invest in would be the Stargazer Project. Our team analyzed every proposal in full scope in order to determine which project would be most successful. Some of the variables reviewed included time frame or life cycle, forecasted ROI, as well as the breakeven point etc. The five project management phases were also considered when making our decision. Project Juniper’s critical path is 6 months which ends October 2014. Since the project only costs $325,000 to get it selling on the market, it appears to be the cheapest of the three. However, our analysis found that it would be more expensive than previously thought since it will take 2 years before its potential revenue streams reaches $250,000. This results in a breakeven point of roughly 3 years with the product life cycle at 2 to 3 years. Given our results, we’ve decided that this project is too much of a risk for the company. Following our analysis we discovered that Project Palomino’s critical path is 9 months, ending January 2015. This time frame is shorter than what we projected for the Stargazer project. Project Palomino is also cheaper at $655,000. Our team also discovered that the breakeven point will be reached at 7 or fewer years. However, revenues created may be as little as $450,000 leaving the company with a deficit. As a result, our team does not recommend investing in this project...

...Below you will find a detail description of the different phases of a project and then an analysis on all three projects, followed by our recommendation. Phases of a project From the start to finish a project can be divided into five different phases (http://www.projectinsight.net/project-management-basics/basic-project-management-phases). Project conception and initiation The purpose of this phase is to define the project accomplishments. This is a critical phase as it is essential for those who will deliver the product/service, for those who will use the product/service, and for those who have a stake in the project to reach agreement on its initiation (http://pmstats.dis.arkansas.gov/Meth/05-Initiation%20phase.pdf). During this phase, the idea of the project is analyzed to see how beneficial it is to the business. Project definition and planning This phase defines the project scope and its activities. It outlines the tasks that have to be performed to complete the project. During this phase, a team should prioritize the project, calculate a budget and schedule, and determine what resources are needed (http://www.projectinsight.net/project-management-basics/basic-project-management-phases). Project launch or execution During this phase, the defined project activities are started to be executed. The project manager moves his attention from planning to execution. A constant...

The recommendation is listed below: Project Juniper: Schedule Risk: Low Cost: $325000 Durations to completion: 6 months ROI: $250,000 yearly for 2 years total = $ 500,000 Project life: 2-3 years Pros: * Product can be executed. * Risk is manageable * Forecasting risk is low. * Product breakeven is around 1.3 years. Breakeven cost = Cost/ROI= 325000/250000= 1.3 years. * Meets client requirement of product launch in next 12 months. Cons: Company’s future at risk as product life is only 2-3 years. Recommendation: Sustainability is not ensured so not recommended. Project Stargazer: Schedule Risk: Very High Cost: $ 1025000 Durations to completion: More than 1year ROI: ROI of $300,000 first year; $550,000 the second year; and $750,000 the third year. ROI total = $ 1600 000 Project life: 7 years Pros: * Product is futuristic Cons: * Risk is high * Forecasting has high variance. * Product breakeven is around 2.23 year’s years. ...Project Management Email-Piper Industries OPS 571 Dear Mr. Gritsch, I would like to thank Piper Industries for allowing our team to analyze your projects. Our team has carefully reviewed all three projects for a best fit to your business needs. Included you will find our analysis and recommendations of the Project Proposal that most benefits your company. Based on the review of the three projects, it appears that the Juniper project which is an enhancement of a current widget being offered will not be profitable option. It requires a cost of $350,000 to bring the product to market with a ROI of 76.9% of the initial cost at its 3 year life span. With advancements in technology ending the life of this product, it is recommended not to pursue this project. The Palomino project may appear to be more attractive with enhancements using existing technology. Upon reviewing the figures, $655,000 start-up costs to bring to market and a predicted $90,000 return each year for 7 years and factoring a ±5% margin, this project takes a different spin that presents a risk of loss to the organization. With a potential -5% (-$31,500) ROI, it becomes obvious that this project is not worth the risk. The ideal project that our team recommends is the Stargazer project. With an initial research and development cost of $450,000, it will only require an additional $125,000 to bring this product to market. Factoring a product life forecast of 7 years, your organization...

...You Decide Scenario: Week 3 Detecting and preventing insider threats is its own discipline, with its own dynamics. If you put these countermeasures in place, you can reduce the threat dramatically. First, you can use an IP packet-filtering router. This type of router permits or denies the packet to either enter or leave the network through the interface on the basis of the protocol, IP address, and the port number. The protocol may be TCP, UDP, HTTP, SMTP, or FTP. The IP address under consideration would be both the source and the destination addresses of the nodes. The port numbers would correspond to the well-know port numbers (Vacca, 2009). Packet filtering lets you control data transfer based on the address the data is, the address the data is going to, and the session and application protocols being used to transfer data. The main advantage of packet filtering is leverage. It allows you to provide, in a single place, particular protections for an entire network. Consider the Telnet service. If you disallow Telnet by turning off the Telnet server on all your hosts, you still have to worry about someone in your organization installing a new machine (or reinstalling an old one) with the Telnet server turned on. On the other hand if Telnet is not allowed by your filtering router, such a new machine would be protected right from the start, regardless of whether or not its Telnet server was actually running. Another advantage of a packet filtering router is that...

...July 19, 2013 Beverly Scott Monitoring Employees on Networks: Unethical or Good Business Since email first emerged as a business tool, companies have increased productivity, decreased costs and found new marketing venues. From collaborated group work to encouraging management messages, the advantages of email in business can be seen in small and large organizations. Rapid Communication Email communications blaze through the Internet with amazing speed. This speed allows businesses to work at a faster pace and communicate more effectively, even in large organizations. Executives are able to receive almost real-time status updates and can therefore make well-informed decisions. Email can also be used to rapidly disseminate information to multiple employees at the same time. Decreased Cost One of the biggest business advantages of using email in business is the cost savings. The overhead to maintain an email system is relatively low. Small businesses can utilize free online email services for no cost beyond their computer and Internet connection expenses. The decreased costs for businesses can be seen in their postage usage, telephony expenses and even travel expenses. Decreased Layers of Management Email effectively decreases the layers of management because everyone in a company can email the company president with ideas, suggestions or comments. Management can obtain opinions from the front lines of their business, which helps them stay in touch with the day-to-day...

...businesses use communications tools such as PDAs, email, fax, video-conferencing, instant-messaging, and the internet. Business can be managed remotely by using technology. Business communication plays a big role in my day to day activities at my work place. My occupation requires me to deal with various departments within in my company and law offices throughout the United States. I must ensure my level of communication is understandable to the other parties. The most used trends of communication in my occupation are technology and teamwork. Email is the most important technology used because if allows me to communicate with other departments in written format so I can have documentation of my communication with the recipient. I personally feel email is the best way of communication because it written communication and if needed for evidence it can be provided. I use email to communicate with the other departments if documentations are needed to complete my job, to contact attorney to stop foreclosure sales, and to communicate with my manager if needed. Email is a great source of communication because it allows you to communicate with several people at one time. The only thing with email is that one must be very careful with the information provided in the email because many companies have privacy policies that prohibits certain information to be transmitted through email because of security reasons. Also, when communicating via email the sender needs to ensure that message being...

...have changed the way I process and communicate information. Effective communication plays an extremely important role in my day-to-day activities as an Operations Manager for a Walmart Supercenter. I rely heavily on communication via e-mail, as this has quickly become the preferred vehicle for sending and receiving key information. One of the most important daily tasks in my routine is to read and respond to emails. After reading important emails, I then can prioritize my daily tasks. Another important communication tool that I use daily are team meetings. Each morning I meet with my supervisors to discuss information on the store’s opportunities and what direction, or tasks need to be completed. I then hold a team meeting with my associates to pass along this information, delegate responsibilities, and set expectations. The consequences of not having these meetings would be wasted time and ineffective communication, which “may obscure ideas so that discussions and decisions are needlessly drawn out” (Locker, 2008, p. 11). Our associates and management...

...Time Management As leaders we often times feel that there is not enough time for everything we need to accomplish in a day. Some people equate being busy with being productive. The “pareto principle” states that 20% of what we do produces 80% of what we achieve. (SkillSoft, 2009) This means that we should be focusing our time on the 20% of the things that are most important and complete those tasks. If a leader applies good time management strategies to the way you work you should be able to spend more than 20% of your time on the important tasks that need to be completed. Managing the valuable commodity of time can improve both your professional and personal life. In order for a leader to really manage their time they need to answer these two questions: 1. How much time do I have? a. Determining how much time you have in a typical work day is based on whether you work 8 hours plus a lunch hour and the type of work being done. 2. How do I spend my time? a. How you use your time during the day can be difficult to know with so many variable tasks that we do each day. Tracking your time using a work log can help you determine how your time is spent each day. This section of the Leadership Handbook will outline several valuable ideas in two very important areas of time management: • How to record and analyze your time using time logs • Effective strategies to avoid wasting time Analyze Your Time with Time Logs Creating a time log can help you identify problem areas...
