...FRIDAY, JANUARY 20TH I expected the course Strategic Management to be very interesting and informative on a new level of management compared to the other management courses we have had in the past. I was shown right when I heard the kind of learning that would be used during the lectures. As for the first lectures I found it interesting in the beginning of the theory but at the end I noticed that I know most of the facts already, this I will explain later on. The theory and the history of strategic management surprised me as I did not expect it to have been used already since 1950s. Somehow I always thought that strategy was a relatively new thing used in business life. When we continued from this onto the details of strategy and how it is defined I did actually think that e.g. budget and investments would be considered as a strategy but as it was explained they are not a strategy they can be said to be part of a strategy. Now to the part which was already familiar to me were the mission, vision and values and most of the facts which were part of these words and came after them in the power point presentation. Why I know these already is because we had a course on Product Development where my group’s task was to teach other about strategic product development. By doing a lot of research for this assignment I found also a lot of general information concerning strategic management. At...

...individually, this year of university has proved to be a big stage for me to attain progress and enrich my experiences. Before taking this module, I was a fresh undergraduate, finishing finance studying and wishing to be engrossed in the world of business management. In my personal development plan, I hoped I can achieve certain academic goals and find the path to becoming a great business consultant in my future career. To be a good consultant, besides systematic and diverse knowledge, you also need to possess the ability to adjust yourself in high-pressure society, stay creative and keep learning from each other. Thus, to achieve my design, I always regard time management, critical thinking, and good teamwork as the most important skills and competencies. A Process of Improvement Straight off, it’s time for me to state why I cherish these three skills and share my experience about how they were improved during this year of study and some regrets I had. Time management is important because it has always been a proper way for me to face stress and overwhelming tasks. In fact, for college students, time management can be used as an effective way to reduce academic stress (Misra, Ranjita; McKean, Michelle, 2000). Similarly, when we enter the workplace, the skill of good time management can also enable us to function under strict deadlines and carry out business plans successfully. To be honest, before taking this module, I was used to procrastinate and tend to set forth the...

...Research And Analysis Project Meetings with your project mentor and presentation: Before starting my work, I laid a plan for better coordinated results. My first step toward planning was to comprehend the Research and Analysis Project guidelines, which I gathered from ACCA official website. After going through the topic list, I narrowed my choice of topics to three. Then I laid down a schedule for my meetings and discussions that were to take place with my mentor. I also studied some guidelines so that my meeting with my mentor would generate best results and would avoid any misunderstandings. Some of these guidelines were: * To conduct successful meetings you need to be focused * productive meeting need to be very specific and clearly defined * Prepare meeting agenda to use as a roadmap (Sound Business Practices, n.d)42 Before the first meeting, I had an idea of topics that I wanted to pursue and the meeting helped me in making the right choice. I presented my choices to my mentor, who helped me in selection of the right topic that is analyzing business and financial performance of an organization over a three year period. I selected the organization for my research and my mentor briefed me about the details that I needed to study about my chosen organization. During the first meeting I became aware of the research methodology that I could follow for better results and defined research’s aims and objectives. My mentor warned me about...

...Now, it's time to evaluate myself and think of the things that I learned the whole semester. Honestly, I did learn a lot of things in all my subjects. I felt like a sponge, absorbing all the knowledge I could possibly have. For Business Decision Methods, I met a lot of acquaintances and stranger, I should say. Before I came into the class, 1was not so clear of what to expect about it. But not so long, the professor started orienting u.sxzii%&e_topiaat will be lectured the whole semester. I realized that BDM, is not really Greek to me. In fact, I met old acquaintances such as Mr. M e Mrs. Me*, Ms. Minzmax, and the rest of the Decision Analysis brood whom I first met back in college. &so, I saw the Forecasting Models and the gang of Probability Concepts again. Conversely, I also met new acquaintances such as Linear Programming and its clan of Applications. However, knowing the other concepts did not mean totally well for me because I know, then, that I still have so many things to learn about these concepts. ...For this project you will assume the role of a portfolio manager. As part of your new assignment, you have seven stocks under management. Your task is to determine how your seven stocks are performing in your portfolio. Your first set of analysis will focus on the assumption that there are no short sale constraints on your holdings and one smaller set of analysis that will focus on the effect of a short sale constraint on your performance. Portfolio Theory Analysis 1. Perform a portfolio analysis for your seven firms that comprise your portfolio using the spreadsheet I presented in class as a template. Please keep to my template because I find it easier to read after you hand it in when the format is just as I have specified (using a spreadsheet that is worse or different than what I did in class is not a good idea). Some notes/hints/reminders on the spreadsheet and on this valuation assignment: * First off, be sure to reproduce my results in my spreadsheet before you begin the analysis on your portfolio. I have separate tabs for the separate analysis that I have performed so you should be able to reproduce my results before your forge ahead with your analysis. Make sure that you order your data from the most recent date to the last date using as much data as I have on my spreadsheet. Failure to do so will result in a very poor grade. * You will need to be able to manipulate SOLVER for this analysis, but given your experience in your summer corporate class...

...Position Paper – Job Analysis Project Let me start by saying, that before I began working on this job analysis course project, I hardly knew what to expect in regards to how and why the job analysis process was done. Now that I have learned and experimented with the systematic process of carrying out an accurate job analysis I have realized its purposes. Those purposes include determining future members of an organization, establishing and documenting the 'job relatedness' of employment procedures such as training, selection, compensation, and performance appraisal, and identifying and determining in detail the particular job duties and requirements for a given position. In order to successfully complete this job analysis project I was to prepare an employee questionnaire, interview an individual employed at any type of company or organization, formulate a job description and job specifications document, and then use the FES Primary Standards and Assigned Levels tool to assign point values appropriate for each FES factor corresponding to my job description. Building a questionnaire was the first phase of the job analysis process. In truth, I did not understand how to make an effective questionnaire until I learned to analyze the human, physical, financial, and intangible inputs and outputs of a job system. These questions, once accurately recorded, helped provide me with a basis of questions to interview any individual employee with. The interview process was the next...

...VARK Analysis Paper Family Centered Health Promotion VARK Analysis Paper VARK is a commonly used learning style that describes the way people take in information, store, process and recall what they have learned. Since people are individuals, they have their own type of learning. VARK is an ACRONYM that stands for (Visual, Aural, Read/Write and Kinesthetic). The purpose of this paper is to analyze, describe and list my preferred learning styles and strategies using the VARK analysis. As this assignment demands, I completed the VARK questionnaire and the results I obtained are listed below. This was my first time filling out the VARK questionnaire and it was an eye opening exercise for me. It reminded me of what I always suspected of my learning style but did not have any scientific evidence to back my suspicions until now. My scores are as follows Visual 2 Aural 6 Read/Write 15 Kinesthetic 10 The above results of my VARK analysis showed that I fall with in the multimodal study preference. Multimodal is a combination or choice of two or more strategies. About 60 % of the people have the multimodal study strategy. This means that these types of people have multiple strong points in areas of reading, writing, aural and kinesthetic strategies. The people that fall within the multimodal study strategy have the ability to meticulously gather information and multitask in their daily lives. The highest score I obtained is the Read/Write learning style with a score of 15. I...

...into deep though about something that’s on your mind. I then though maybe you should look up the real definition of critical thinking. In doing that I came up with this. According to the Encarta Dictionary critical thinking is disciplined intellectual criticism that combines research, knowledge of historical context, and balanced judgment. Another source tells me it’s thinking about a subject, problem, or content. It’s self-directed, self-monitored and self- corrective thinking. Critical thinking assent standards of excellence and command of their use. As I go farther into my research of critical thinking, I also find out there are different steps to critical thinking. One of the first steps is Knowledge. Knowledge is topic, issue, thesis, and the main point. In other words you have to know what you’re thinking about. Thinking on a topic you know little about can cause you to feel overwhelmed. Step two in the critical thinking process is Comprehension. Comprehension is understanding what it is you’re reading, hearing or seeing. I comprehend better when I see or hear something being taught to me. You have to be able to comprehend what you’re thinking about to help you understand what you’re learning. The third step in critical thinking is Application. Application is to know and apply what you comprehend. In other words putting what you learn to use. Step four is Analysis. When you analysis something you break it apart and study the pieces. Step five in critical thinking is Synthesis...

...level, is a real-world situation in which you, the marketing professional, are expected to use your critical thinking skills to figure out what to do. As in most real-world situations, you have neither enough information or time to really address the problem, and you also have a million other things going on at the same time. So rather than thrashing about aimlessly, this mini-guide is intended to give you a skeleton of an approach that may be useful in analyzing these cases. The first step in any case analysis is to actively read the case. That means going through it carefully and making notes in the margins, highlighting, or whatever other methods you typically use to understand what is really going on in the case. Treat the case like a mystery novel – try to unravel the complex web of information (and sometimes disinformation) that is presented. Typically the cases will be tied to the chapter of the text we are currently reading, but that is not always the case. If appropriate, think about the principles we are discussing for that chapter and see if they apply to that particular case or not. The instructor (me) is not always good about fitting the cases and the chapters together, and these are general purpose cases not necessarily oriented to a Product Management course, so there may not be the perfect overlap that would happen in a perfect world, or somewhere like Harvard. All cases are self-contained – all the information you need about the industry, the company, or...
