The absolute definition of an engineer changes with the person defining it. For a child in the depths of the Sahara desert, an engineer is a person who fixes the water-pump that brings the manna to her village; for a teenager hooked onto video games, an engineer is a messiah who restores his virus-stricken computer, bringing back normalcy. However, in all these definitions one finds a singular but common fundamental factor: an engineer is one who makes a positive impact on your life by creating innovative devices using the resources at hand. The profound ability to gauge the needs of society at a given point in time, and then find efficient and cost-effective solutions to meet these demands, is what distinguishes an engineer from his peers. …show more content…

But I thought instead of going through the same essays over and over again, you can get to know more about me and what I’d like to do for the future. Sound good? Ok let’s go. First of all my name is Gustavo Arturo Villarroel De La Concha Alvarez. Pretty long isn’t it? Don’t worry you can call me Gus for short. Over the past year when I still a junior in high school I conjured up a multitude of ideas for innovations that could very well alter the way we manufacture vehicles for the future, but first I need to be educated in the field that best suits that subject, Mechanical Engineering. During my junior year, I bought a 2001 6 cylinder Laser Red Ford Mustang. It was a stick shift too, so it was fun to drive on the highway switching in and out of gears and really hear the engine roar. I went with my mother and step father to the Rolex 24 since they worked for BRA Motorsports and went inside the garages for the racers and I was mesmerized by the array of sport horses as well as the components that make them up. I was always a curious soul, I just felt the need to poke my nose into things that fascinated me and I always had the urge to obtain a COMPLETE understanding of them...

...Essay #1: What is your intended major? Discuss how your interest in the subject developed and describe any experience you have had in the field - such as volunteer work, internships and employment, participation in student organizations and activities - and what you have gained from your involvement. I’ve wanted to become a mechanical engineer ever since the first time I saw a Formula One racing car on TV. There was something special about the car that captured my interest. I admired the skillful drivers, but I was more drawn to the person who made the car. My father told me only mechanical engineers are able to design machines that complex. In that moment, I decided to study mechanical engineering so that I could design the best cars in the future. When I discovered physics in high school, I realized how exciting it was to focus on a subject I liked. The deeper I studied physics, the more passionate I became. My growing interest helped me make my decision to study abroad in the United States. I know that the U.S. has the most advanced engineering technology in the world, so I am excited by the possibility of continuing my education there. My parents support the idea wholeheartedly. In all the generations of my family, I will be the first to attend college—they would be proud if I pursued my studies in the United States. While there have been many events in college that have convinced me I am well-suited for the study of mechanical engineering—such as building...

...I personally feel that there is substantial respect to be gained by pursuing the field of Mechanical Engineering. The diversity present in this field has attracted me and it is consistent with my enthusiasm for Mathematics and Science. It has a lot of scope as well. I have gone through the entire course and the specific areas, which interested me, were Robotics and Project Design. I know what a career in Engineering is like, since I have done an internship as a Engineer in MTA. I have been quite impressed by the teamwork involved in Mechanical Engineering; how people work in groups, in order to complete a project for example in MTA we are producing a device called the Help Points which will help people achieve emergency assistance or information within the press of a button on the platform itself. In my opinion, supervising, problem solving and decision-making play an important role in most of the Engineering firms. Taking courses such as Physics, Dynamics, Thermodynamics, Fluids, Mechanics of Materials, and etc. have helped me develop these skills. They have equipped me with adequate knowledge and understanding so that I could become a confident member of the advanced world of technology. I have the zeal to develop self-inspiration and the talent to work in a consistent manner. I believe that Science and Mathematics are cohesive. By studying Mathematics, I have gained the skills, which help me solve real life problems, and such skills, more importantly, have been useful in the...

...VENDOR PROFILE HCL Technologies — Vendor Profile Series for R&D/Product Engineering Services Mukesh Dialani IDC OPINION As HCL Technologies likes to put it, product engineering is in its DNA. Since inception of its group operations more than 30 years ago, the company has invested in creating technology products and offering engineering services to its customers. Until recently, its focus was to position itself as a "technology services provider." IDC believes that in order to scale revenue and utilize its assets more productively, the strategy has changed since the past five to six years to include other IT services offering. As a result, engineering and R&D services now contribute to approximately 26% of HCL Technologies' total revenue. IDC has made the following observations: ! It is commendable to note that revenue for R&D/product engineering services has risen by 40%, while head count has risen only by approximately 24%. This indicates that HCL is successfully optimizing the use of its resources. ! Among its various initiatives, its Global Risk Reward Partnership (GRRP) model is unique and does enable it to create differentiation. However, success of this partnership will be determined by analyzing customer adoption over the next 2–3 years. ! HCL Technologies has created a sound and robust ecosystem consisting of partnerships, alliances with educational institutions, and manpower certification. ! It has acquired more than 270 customers and its top 10 customers contribute...

Mechanical Engineers Qualities for Millennium 3

...Mechanical Engineers Qualities for Millennium 3 1) Bachelor’s Degree/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or its equivalent. The mechanical engineer has been called the general practitioner and the jack-of-all trades among engineering professions. This is because he requires education and skills that span a broad range of technical, social, environmental, and economic problems. In general, however, the mechanical engineer is concerned with controlling the principles of motion, energy, and force through mechanical solutions. A mechanical engineer designs the tools and processes used for satisfying the needs of society through a combination of material, human, and economic resources. He might work on electric generators, internal combustion engines, steam and gas turbines, and other power-generating machines. He might also develop machines such as refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment, power tools, and other power-using machines. Engineers must combine a good understanding of science, mathematics, and computers with a good knowledge of current technology. At the high school level, the emphasis is on mathematics. Two years of algebra plus courses in geometry and trigonometry generally are required. In addition to the sciences and math, engineers need good communication skills, so don't neglect the liberal arts and humanities. In addition, remember that many of the large industrial firms that employ mechanical engineers are multinational...

Interviewing Candidates

...Maria Fernandez is a bright, popular, and well-informed mechanical engineer who graduated with an engineering degree from State University in June 1998. During the spring preceding her graduation she went out on many job interviews, most of which she thought were courteous and reasonably useful in giving both her and the prospective employer a good impression of where each of them stood on matters of importance to both of them. It was, therefore, with great anticipation that she looked forward to an interview with the one firm in which she most wanted to work, Apex Environmental. She had always had a strong interest in cleaning up the environment and firmly believed that the best use of her training and skills lay in working for a firm like Apex, where she thought she could have a successful career while making the world a better place. The interview, however, was a disaster. Maria walked into a room in which five men, including the president of the company, two vice presidents, the marketing director, and another engineer, began throwing questions at her that she felt were aimed primarily at tripping her up rather than finding out what she could offer through her engineering skills. The questions ranged from unnecessarily discourteous ("Why would you take a job as a waitress in college if you're such an intelligent person?) to irrelevant and sexist ("Are you planning on settling down and starting a family any lime soon?). Then, after the interview, she met with two of the...
