...Trying Out Some New Taking the trip to Mexico sounded so relaxing, so cool, I mean seriously. The journey to Mexico was interesting and informative. I am writing this on my journey when we were strangers in Mexico. I chose this topic so that I can let people know how things are serious there. Mexico was a life changing experience not only for me but for a group of people. Dusty sand, smiling kids, happy moms and dads. Families join in and they understand each other. Most families are close to each other causes they both know the struggle. Kids attend school on a hot day, a cold day, a rainy day and they have no windows no a/c or no desk. The teachers teach with no books many students don’t have the proper pants, shirt, shoes but still have...

...Life in Mexico Hello everyone, my name is Jose Rodriguez. I am 34 years old now. I came from Durango, Mexico, which located in the northern part of the country. I was a high school math teacher in Mexico, and had a very nice family with my wife, two sons and one daughter. These years, the unstable security issues and the growing drug related crime around my city made me worried a lot. I tried to move my whole families to another city; however, I just cannot afford it. Unfortunately, the bad things finally happed. Last year, the local drug dealers took my older son away and forced him to do the drug production. I reported this to the local police, but the drug dealers had a better relation with the policeman than I did. One week later, they send my son back home, but he was dying. After four hours emergency operation, my son’s life was saved, however, he was diagnosed with uremia, which surely caused by the physical contractions between the toxic drug chemicals and my son’s body, according to the doctor. The medical payment for my son is extremely high, so, I have to find some other way to make more money. Normally, people like me in Mexico have two ways to make more money. One is the easier way by dealing with drug; another is the harder way by crossing the US boarder to chasing dream in America. I hate drugs, so, there would be only one option for me. Trip to US Making a decision is hard, especially for this kind. But, like I said, I don’t have any choices. I have to go...

...Event The time that I have applied leadership and an immense amount of communication is when my family and I head down to Mexico on a missions trip. Once a year we pack our bags and head across borders driving a total of 16 hours, going into the heart of Mexico we drive through Chihuahua City arriving at a little town called Anahuac. Inside Anahuac is an orphanage called “Casa de la Esperanza,” it is filled with laughter and a second chance for kids who never got the attention and love they deserved. This orphanage has roughly 40-70 kids a year ranging in size, age, and backgrounds you would never wish on anyone. Hearing some of these children’s stories and where they came from would never reflect on who they were on the inside, all these kids want is love and friendship and they would quickly give it back. The very first time we arrived at Casa a lot was going through my mind, since this was a new experience that was out of my comfort zone. I felt times like these really help expand and push limits of leadership and communication that benefit and support a community in need. Casa is truly an amazing place that focuses their vision not on themselves but on the neighboring community, they supply and conduct food drives, medical exams and taking care of whatever else needs to be done in the town of Anahuac. After hearing what was expected of us in this trip I knew I was going to thrive and truly help make a difference. Casa takes in these children...

...Parker 1 Cynthia Parker November 11, 2015 After deciding to take a vacation, one must narrow down the possible vacation spots. Two destinations that interest me are Branson, Missouri and Cozumel, Mexico. Both destinations have a variety of activities for me to enjoy while vacationing, but the expenses are quite a bit different. Cozumel will cost more, but I believe I will enjoy the Caribbean cruise more than I will enjoy relaxing in the mountains of Branson. Choosing a vacation getaway can be stressful but exciting. Even on a budget, it is simple to plan an affordable vacation. Two places I would like to vacation at are the mountains of Branson, Missouri and a Caribbean cruise to Cozumel, Mexico. In Branson, there are almost limitless attractions to enjoy. While relaxing in a cozy cabin in the mountains, I could enjoy the peace and quiet nature with beautiful scenery, or I could visit some of the attractions around the area. There is a cabin called the, "Beary Cozy" cabin, and it has one bedroom and one and a half bath. It comes with a fully equipped kitchen and living area making it feel like a home away from home (www.traveloffice.org). The cabin has a romantic fireplace in the living area, perfect for a relaxing, romantic getaway. There are many attractions to choose from, most of which are affordable for someone vacationing on a budget. If I choose Branson as my vacation destination, I would leave on a Sunday and return the following Sunday. I would...

...West Coast Trip West Coast of the United States is a well-known coast as a place to visit for the East Coast people to take a break or run away from the frostiness of snow during winter. Over winter break, I decided to spend two of my five weeks break at West Coast. It was a precipitous decision that I made because I was planning just to spend my winter break in Columbus, Ohio, because I didn’t have that much cost to go to West Coast, but then my friend forced me and she decided to sponsor my trip to west. It such a blessing to have that kind of friend in today’s selfish world. I was such a mess during Fall semester. I really need to fully use winter break to discover myself and see what I am capable of. Besides, I need to understand life as aging keeps hunting me and I have to learn on how to tolerate with people because the world has trillions of behavior in different person that I have met, I am meeting and the person that I am going to meet in my future. Before the trip started, I clear my mind from all the negative thoughts that I had in mind and brought only positive vibes with me. During the trip, I got to learn a lot about myself, learn to deal with complicated people and realize that we always need to be prepared. On the first day of my journey, I started to learn something about myself. It started with taking a flight to San Francisco. This is my first time getting on a domestic plane, alone. Actually it was my second time, but the first time was a flight from...

...My variety of different experiences will help me contribute to the diversity in the Physical Therapy Program. One of my experiences that really stand apart from others is my participation in a mission trip to Honduras. I joined students from the University of Connecticut Health School to provide free healthcare to inhabitants of small villages and cities in the area. The trip taught me the importance of providing healthcare to poverty stricken areas and the effect it can have on the communities. The experience also really cemented the importance of being tolerant of different cultures and areas of the world. You need to be truly passionate about providing a better life for the people that come from less fortunate circumstances, but also understanding of their ways of life. If you are doing something just because you think it looks good and would benefit yourself; your goals become very transparent and those you are helping can tell right away you aren’t really there for them. There was no greater feeling then seeing the smile on the children’s faces while we worked with them to get them better or the clear look of thankfulness on the people who will never take what we provided them for granted. I would love to have the opportunity to provide physical therapy to similar areas of need, which I can successfully contribute to the program at MGH IHP. I have also had different experiences relating directly to the field that have all been quite diverse. My first...

...So Much Water So Close To Home Raymond Carver This short story by Raymond Carver is about this man called Stuart. Stuart lives with his wife Claire. The story is told from Claire, and her perspective. In the start, the story takes place at a river, some miles away from Stuart and Claire’s home. At this river Stuart and some of his friends, is out for a real man trip. They are fishing, drinking and doing all, of such things men does on a trip like this. In the middle of this trip, one of the men finds a dead body of a girl, in the river. They do not call the police, because they will not ruin the trip. So they decide to call the police after the trip when they was about to go home. Stuart comes home and telling this story to Claire, and that’s really where the story takes start and the action first begins. Shortly after this we can see, that the real action, is about, Stuart and Claire’s relationship, and how Claire is. The settings in the start are at a river, miles away from Stuart’s home. It’s not described very well, but I have an imagination, at how this place the men is at, is a normally place in a forest near a river. Maybe there is a bonfire place, with some stones around it, and they are sitting there in a circle. Otherwise the story takes place several different locations, there isn’t described very much in this short story. A characterization of Claire: In the text, it appears that Claire is mentally ill. It is only, if you read the whole story, it makes sense...

...Every year more than one-third of Americans (35%) take a vacation somewhere around the world. Unless you just pick up and leave you are going to need to pack to make this trip more enjoyable, but along with packing comes stress. From personal experience I find packing very overwhelming but with a little help it can be a quick and easy process. Start off with making a list. Creating a list can ensure you don't leave out and important items that could cause any stress when arriving to your special destination. List clothing, toiletries, accessories, electronics, and some things to do when you have down time. Firstly, you should start with the clothing you are going to pack; clothes that will make you feel comfortable in a warm environment. If you are going to go hiking make sure you bring lots of tank tops and shorts and along with that tennis shoes so your feet are comfortable. If you are going to go to the beach or hang around pool side make sure you bring lots of bathing suits. Bring extra so when you are at the pool or beach the other pairs could be air drying back at the hotel. For going out to dinner pack more casual because when you are at the beach you don't really get dressed up. Men can wear button down shirts and Women can wear dresses....

...Have you ever felt as if you were living the dream? That anything bad in your life just disappeared? That’s exactly how I felt on June 1st 2015 in Troy Missouri. The sun was shining down on me as the wind blew at just the perfect speed, in which made my hair spin as if I was in a tornado. And at this moment I knew my life was perfect, and nothing could change that. But I guess I thought a bit too soon, because before all the paradise came the 13 hour long and painful car ride. The car ride felt like a never ending lecture from your parents. And the worst part about it was that there was no amazing scenery on the way there, so all you could do was stare at long fields of green and brown hills. After 13 long hours of nausea and suffering my...

...Do you enjoy traveling? Hotels can be expensive, and gas or a plane ticket can be pricey. Sometimes you can get carsick. It really sucks when you have to go to the bathroom, and there’s no gas station. Imagine there were no hotels, cars, planes or bathrooms. You probably wouldn’t do much traveling. Martha Reed and her family travelled from East America all the way to Oregon. They accomplished this feat without common day technology, including cars, hotels, gas stations and planes. They walked the Oregon trail, which is roughly two thousand miles, on foot. That’s not easy. That wasn’t even the largest part. Starvation has always been an enemy of the human race. It was a major threat for the emigrants. Martha said this,“Ben Kelsey, wife and child and several others came on to California. They had many hardships. Got out of food and had to kill their oxen and eat them and leave their wagons and come on foot and they all but starved.” She wasn’t as unfortunate, but there were those to whom had it worse. Traveling was nothing to be laughed at, it was a hard and dangerous journey. It became even more dangerous with the threat of Indians. Not all Indians were warm and welcoming. Martha however, did not face any conflicts with the Indians, although this was not the case for everyone. For example, in Martha Williams Reed, an Oregon Pioneer, she wrote this,” They thought Dr. Whitman brought it there to kill them off so they killed Dr. Whitman, his wife and all that were at the station...

...One activity i chose was the cooperative learning groups. In these particular learning groups each group is comprised of 4 students. The students are working on a science project. In this particular science project they are to build a model of volcano. These students each has their prospective jobs within the small group. One student will work on how to make it erupt, one works on making the platform, one works on cutting the chicken wire, and one is cutting up newspaper strips. The desks in the group are all facing each other, and each student is given an instruction sheet for their particular job. They are instructed to help one another when someone gets stuck, and to check off on their papers when they have finished each step. Another activity I chose was the use of learning centers and computer stations. Some examples of my learning centers for this particular day are the video center on volcanoes, the reading center on volcanoes, and the poster center on volcanoes. I have four groups set up for the students to learn from about volcanoes. The video center is off in the corner, and has a 20 minute video for the students to watch. The reading center is towards one outer wall and has a stack of books and magazines for the students to read about volcanoes. Another learning center has various posters of volcanoes that are packed with useful information about volcanoes. Then there is the computer station where the students can research more information on the web about volcanoes...

...able to stand on our own two feet, while in the process discovering things about ourselves such as our sexuality and where we want to head in life. In the short story “Red from Green” by Maile Meloy, It is at this crossroad that our protagonist, Sam, finds herself. She is forced to see herself and her father in a new light following a float trip where a grown man shows an interest in her. “Red from Green” is narrated from a third person perspective, and from Sam’s perspective. Sam is a 15-year old American teenager from Montana who is about to start her sophomore year. Because Sam’s mother died she lives alone with her father which has created a strong bond between them. Therefore they did not like to talk much about the fact that Sam had been offered a scholarship to a boarding school. She had not decided to take it yet and she was unsure how her father felt about it, “Applying had been her father’s idea, but now he looked dismayed every time the subject came up” (p. 1, l. 6-7). Sam and her father had been on this kind of float trip many times before, although this time her uncle and his client joined them. She thought the purpose of the trip might in fact be to gain the goodwill of this new client, “…it was the feeling she got - that they were going for the client” (p. 1, l. 15). The client, Layton, very quickly made an impression on her by complimenting her teeth which it seems she is not used to, this is made clear later when she ponders on his compliment, “And she was wondering...
