...Every organization is unique in the context that its goals, the environment within it, the size of the organization and the technology it uses to pursue these goals are different from one organization to another. These key variables are the most important factors that map out how an organization is going to be structured. Therefore, there is no one best way to structure an organization. The structure of an organization, particularly ones operating in several countries, i.e. MNC’s is closely related to its strategies, as argued by (Qiu and Donaldson 2010,P 82). Their hypothesis suggests that small changes in the way an organization is structured may play a big role in how successful it is in reaching its goals. They effectively sort out different structural models that the organizations can base their structure on depending on a number of determinants. The key determinants being how responsive the organizations want to be in regards to the local market changes, how diversified they want their products to be between different countries and the degree to which they want a similar global rule, i.e. global integration. ...Communication The literature of the past decade draws focus to the need to moderate the observed rise of communication in a virtual setting with physical, interpersonal communication. In reflection on my and my team’s experiences, communication was more effective in Everest 2 than in Everest 1 with one exception to the rule. The findings infer that online interaction undermines the communicative process by fostering the disinhibition effect, unethical communication and filtering. Although they also point out that virtual communication can help clarify decision making by diffusing emotional cues. This analysis seeks to clarify these facets of communication and apply them to the issues in order to draw conclusions to help improve my and my team’s approach to team-work. The disinhibition effect refers to the propensity of individuals to disregard social conventions, act impulsively and exercise poor risk assessment where personal interaction has been removed. It negatively affects the communicative process because it distorts meaning by removing interpersonal consequences. This effect was manifest in our team prior to commencing Everest 2. A team member was unresponsive, after prompting within the course guide lines the member attempted Everest 1 but failed to attend Everest 2. She finds a major flaw in the company’s benefits plan and brings it to the attention of Management. She was terminated and brought up a wrongful termination suit against Marriott. The Courts upheld the termination saying that Section 510 of ERISA did not protect the employee. This article argues that the employee should be protected when reporting internal violations voluntarily for three reasons. “(1) The protection of unsolicited internal complaints is consistent with congressional intent, (2) The text of section 510, as compared to other anti-retaliation provisions in other federal statutes, supports protection of unsolicited internal complaints, and (3) Section 510 reflects the view of the Secretary of Labor, whose interpretative position is coherent and attractive as a policy matter.”(PETERSON 1). The first reason is “the protection of unsolicited internal complaints is consistent with congressional intent.” Even though the Supreme Court upheld the judgment in this case, the article is arguing the side of congressional intent.
