Ava walked down New York city streets, trying to find something she knew. After scrolling down the streets for half of the day, she found him in front of New York’s central train station. She did not have to say anything, he knew. They knew. They both knew who they were, a sort of connexion. Not a single word exchanged, only micro expressions. Ava had a program to detect micro expressions and she had perceived in every person she saw. But, in James’ face, she had seen none. Ava just stood there, stunned. Maybe was it the brightness of the sun, maybe was it because she finally found someone like her. James did not reflect many emotions. Ava thought that he was probably an older version of her, with minor success and less programs.

Bwell's Blink: Thin Slicing

...Thin slicing is a process by which you take a segment of a situation and make an overall judgment about it. An example that the author contains in the book is a man named John Gottman. John Gottman can view a 3-minute clip of a couple arguing and determine whether or not that relationship will last 15 years more (with accuracy). The Author discussed the many elements that affect our judgment, our culture, our experience, and the data that is placed before us. So the very things that help us also hinder us. The author demonstrates the point by telling the story of an orchestra who decided to put up screens to audition their musicians, so they only heard the music rather than judge the contender by looks, attitude, the way they held the instrument etc. They found that this was how they eventually began to choose women into the orchestra by talent alone. They did this to prevent stereotyping by looks and to have a the audition be purely on...

...The word ‘essentials’ in its title might give the impression that the CIM Certificate's ‘Marketing Essentials’ module is a walk in the park. But be warned: this is not the case. As the first module usually studied when pursuing a Professional Certificate in Marketing, its three-hour exam demands preparation. The exam is broken into two parts. Part A requires candidates to answer 10 short questions, each carrying four marks. Part B includes three questions based on a case study, each carrying 20 marks. The following tips tell you how to successfully approach and complete all of them. Tip 1: Be concise. It is important to take note of the answer length you need to provide based on the marks awarded for it. In Part A, candidates are asked to provide short answers. In fact, try not to write more than five to six lines for a two-mark question. Addressing the requirements is all that is needed. Tip 2: Understand the questions. Supporting Penalty Rate Wages

...Title: Group Debate: Individual Essay Topic: Penalty wage rates for work done outside the ‘normal’ Monday-Friday working week should be abolished. (Defending) Introduction Penalty rate wage were introduced to compensate employees for working during the so-called unsocial hours. Unsociable hours of work occur during the days of the week or hours of the day when most of the people do not have to work. The idea behind the term is that there are only some times of day when others are available for social contact, and if the workers are expected to be at their workplaces at these times, social contact becomes very difficult (Bittman, 2005). Reducing standardisation of working hours makes scheduling and social coordination increasing difficult, if not impossible. The International Labour Organization (ILO) describes unsocial hours as ‘night works, weekend work and long shifts during peak periods’ (ILO, 2008). In practice, unsociable hours have been defined as anytime outside 9am to 5pm Monday (Dawkins, 1985). Traditionally, penalty payments were defended on the grounds that work at "socially unacceptable" times needs to be compensated. This was most obvious with respect to work on Sundays, the traditional day of rest in Christian societies, but this became a principle extended to Saturdays and evenings. (Visontay, 2011). Factors considered in defending penalty rates include the effects on religious, social and family life; lack of access to public transport, and the harmful...

Osborn Professor of Marketing, Tuck School of Business, Dartmouth College, 100 Tuck Hall, Hanover, NH 03755, USA To help marketers to build and manage their brands in a dramatically changing marketing communications environment, the customer-based brand equity model that emphasizes the importance of understanding consumer brand knowledge structures is put forth. Specifically, the brand resonance pyramid is reviewed as a means to track how marketing communications can create intense, active loyalty relationships and affect brand equity. According to this model, integrating marketing communications involves mixing and matching different communication options to establish the desired awareness and image in the minds of consumers. The versatility of on-line, interactive marketing communications to marketers in brand building is also addressed. Keywords: customer-based brand equity; brand resonance; brand building; integrated marketing communications; interactive marketing communications Introduction The marketing communications environment has changed enormously from what it was 50, 30 or perhaps even as few as 10 years ago. Blink

..."In the first two seconds of looking –in a single glance – they were able to understand more about the essence of the statue than the team at the Getty was able to understand after fourteen months . . . Blink is a book about those first two seconds." Gladwell begins his introduction with the story of a kouros – an ancient Greek sculpture of a young naked male – that was acquired by the J. Paul Getty Museum in 1983. Kouroi are very rare. As a result this particular kouros was being sold for $10 million. Because of the hefty price tag, the Getty Museum was very careful when testing to see if the kouros was a forgery. However, after 14 months of analysis, the Getty determined that the kouros was in fact real, and bought the statue. Many scholars did not agree that the kouros was real. To them, something about the statue didn’t look right. When Thomas Hoving, the former director of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, looked at the statue the first word that came to his mind was “fresh”. When Angelos Delivorrias, director of the Benaki Museum in Athens, first laid eyes upon the statue he felt a wave of immediate disgust. For a long time the validity of the kouros was hotly debated. Finally, the Getty’s case began to fall apart. As it turned out, a lot of the documents used to prove the statue’s authenticity were forged. Also, as experts began to examine the statue in great detail, they came to the realization that it used a hodgepodge of styles from many different places...
