...the time. Abraham Maslow and B.F. Skinner are just two of the many theorists that have formed the organization in today’s classrooms. This paper will address the differences in the theories and the similarities. It will describe how each theory can be implemented in the learning environment of an early childhood classroom. Lastly, it will describe each theory that will be compared supported by research. Comparison of two Theories Operant Behavior Conditioning of Burrhus Frederic Skinner (1904-1990) BF Skinner renowned for his theory of Operant Behavior (Maslow and Skinner: n.d.). He is known for, his leadership in the field behavior modification through conditioning. This states that behavior is affected by the consequence that follows the behavior. This is a practice teachers, utilize in the classrooms every day as part of the classroom management process: if the behavior of the child or children is unacceptable, the consequence will not be favorable. If the behavior is positive, the consequences will also be positive. Really, Skinner's theory states that good behavior is reinforced while bad behavior is reprimanded (Maslow and Skinner, n.d.). Ultimately, Skinner believed that in order to change behavior there had to be a positive stimulus to reinforce that behavior. Added onto this is the theory of Operant Conditioning. This states that not only is good behavior being rewarded, but the subject (person or animal) can learn to manipulate the system by continuing the positive...

...Personality Overview Nina M Cleary PSY/405 November 5, 2011 Nanda Mendieta, M.S Personality Overview Personality’s definition can be sorted out in many defining terms depending on who may be providing the definition and on whom. Inclusive of consistent emotions, thoughts and behavior patterns in a person is more than what is needed to help us truly understand the concept and define personality. Each one of us should have a clear perception of our personality that would include what our strengths are, our thoughts, beliefs, motivation, emotions and our weaknesses. Self-awareness means having a clear perception of our personality and allows each of us to understand other people, how they perceive us and our attitude and our responses to them at any given time. To understand ourselves gives us the freedom to better understand others. In each one of us this freedom is the core of our personalities, the breath that we breathe and the who that we are. It is given to us as the first element of the world we come into. Genetic determinism presents contemporary disclosure in the field of science relating to the very idea of human freedom since concept of determinism is linked directly to genes that are located in each of our DNA. Ironically, determinists seem interested in broadening this concept by arguing that behavior in itself is determined by our genes. This very idea makes us all hostages of our own genetic makeup making any attempts to change...

...INTRODUCTION This paper develops an overview of international motivation theories and researches initiatives that the Queensland Government implement to retain employees. Moreover, it comprehensively analyses how motivation can directly influence on the improvement of services; increase of work satisfaction, employee loyalty, commitment and performance and modification of ethical behaviour. Finally, personal views are presented providing a wealth of personal experience emphasising the diverse incentive methodology in Queensland Government. Research has shown that one of the factors of business success depend on the effective management of employment performance through motivation. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the interconnection between motivation, incentives and performance. In the last ten years organisational behaviour has become a key topic on strategic business development among managers (Harris & Hartman, 2002ii) to reduce employment absences, low performance, staff turnover and poor customer service. MOTIVATION IN THE PUBLIC SECTOR Motivation is a difficult trend which can be influenced by many internal and external sources and has been theorised by many academics. There are as many philosophies as there are opportunities, therefore success can be achieved through implementation, evaluation and correction of different theories. In early 1990, Perry and Wise proposed the concept of Public Service Motivation (PSM). The writers explain that public servants...

...http://managementhelp.org/blogs/leadership/2010/04/21/leadership-theories/ Leadership Theories By Steve Wolinski on April 21, 2010 191 63 118 There is a wide and ever growing variety of theories to explain the concept and practice of leadership. I will provide a brief overview of the more dominant or better known theories. I hope that others will share their thoughts on whether this list neglects any theories of note. In the future we can discuss some of the emerging leadership theories/approaches such as adaptive, authentic, and appreciative. It is important to note that this submission attempts to provide an overview of leadership theories versus models. I view models as attempts to functionalize the more theoretical aspects of leadership and make them easier to put into play by organizations and consultants. This is, in and of itself, an important activity. Most theories view leadership as grounded in one or more of the following three perspectives: leadership as a process or relationship, leadership as a combination of traits or personality characteristics, or leadership as certain behaviors or, as they are more commonly referred to, leadership skills. In virtually all of the more dominant theories there exist the notions that, at least to some degree, leadership is a process that involves influence with a group of people toward the realization of goals. I will say on the front end that, in my opinion, leadership is a dynamic and complex process, and that much...

...Classroom Management Theorists and Theories/Burrhus Frederic Skinner < Classroom Management Theorists and Theories Contents 1 Overview of Skinner's Theories of Classroom Management 2 Implementation of Skinner's Theories 3 Critique of Skinner's Theories 4 Questions for Consideration 5 References Overview of Skinner's Theories of Classroom Management[edit] The Theory Skinner believed that the goal of psychology should be practical (Lieberman, 2000). As it relates to education, Skinner believed the goal of psychology should be to find ways to make education enjoyable and effective for all students. His learning theory relied on the assumption that the best way to modify behavior was to modify the environment. Skinner was a proponent for many instructional strategies that modern day “progressive” educational reformers advocate for: scaffold instruction, small units, repetition and review of instructions, and immediate feedback. Skinner did not approve of the use of punishments in school, or as a behavioral modification technique in general, and based these opinions on his own empirical research that found punishments to be ineffective (Lieberman, 2000). Skinner himself advocated for the frequent use of reinforcement (i.e. rewards) to modify and influence student behavior. Skinner’s primary contribution to behavioral management philosophy has been from his research on operant conditioning and reinforcement schedules. An operant is a behavior that acts on the surrounding...
