My Definition of Love

...My Definition of Love Love has so many definitions which it makes impossible to define precisely. As a matter of fact, it is one of the most difficult questions to answer. “I can’t stop thinking about you.” That’s one definition of love. The Bible says “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, and it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, and always perseveres.” (1st Corinthians 13:5-7). In order for me to give you my best definition of love, I would have to use the four types of love given by the ancient Greek philosophers. They are phileo, the love of friendship; storge, the love of family and relatives; eros, the love of affection and obsession; and agape, the unconditional love. Phileo, the love of friendship, is not sexual in nature. Phileo basically covers everything that has to do with a friendly affection of one person to another. It includes loyalty to friends, family, and their community. Phileo love truly describes friendship and the bonds that are strengthened by shared experiences. Most of us have at least someone that we call best friend. The tender affection we have for them is an example of phileo. Storge means family affection between family members. It is extremely important for all human beings, children and adults. It is natural affection...

My Definition of Love

..."One Day" Sometimes I lay Under the moon And thank God I'm breathing Then I pray Don't take me soon 'Cause I am here for a reason Sometimes in my tears I drown But I never let it get me down So when negativity surrounds I know some day it'll all turn around because... All my life I've been waiting for I've been praying for For the people to say That we don't wanna fight no more There will be no more wars And our children will play One day [6x] It's not about Win or lose 'Cause we all lose When they feed on the souls of the innocent Blood-drenched pavement Keep on moving though the waters stay raging In this maze you can lose your way (your way) It might drive you crazy but don't let it faze you, no way (no way) Sometimes in my tears I drown (I drown) But I never let it get me down (get me down) So when negativity surrounds (surrounds) I know some day it'll all turn around because... All my life I've been waiting for I've been praying for For the people to say That we don't wanna fight no more There will be no more wars And our children will play One day [6x] One day this all will change Treat people the same Stop with the violence Down with the hate One day we'll all be free And proud to be Under the same sun Singing songs of freedom like One day [2x] All my life I've been waiting for I've been praying for For the people to say That we don't wanna fight no more There will be no more wars And our children will...

My Definition of Love

Do you have a cup of coffee every morning? Например: Does he swim? Do you like ice-cream? Рассмотрим на примерах: Are you a manager? Can you sing well? May...

Reflection Paper

...Reflection Paper Shannon B. Payton Liberty University Introduction This paper is about reflecting on what was covered in Theology 104. There are many Christians who understand that God loves us and wants the best for His children. There are many subjects, videos, and extracted material that has been read or discussed over the span of four weeks which has given me a better understanding of the Bible and Christianity. My reflection for this paper I have chosen two topics that I have chosen to address for this paper. First, topic I have chosen will be Grace and secondly I will be focusing on Love. Grace Theological definition of “grace” as many scholar s of the bible will define this word as the unmerited favor of God toward man. Grace can also be defined as like forgiveness, repentance, regeneration and salvation to mean something as broad as describing the whole of God’s activity towards man or as narrow as describing one segment of activity (Baker’s Evangelical Bible Dictionary). Often times many would attribute grace toward s how women carry themselves and even in the bible grace can be defined through many scripture as action of one who are in high position. Biblical Foundation The first time Grace has been in mentioned was in Genesis chapter 8 because of Noah obedience to God and God was tired or as the bible scholar would state grieved by man’s wickedness and caused God to erase mankind. In all this, Noah found favor with God. Here the word favor and grace...

My Family

...being in love, providing security, socialization, or something completely different. The United States Census Bureau (2010) defines family as a, “Primary social group involving social or generational alliances, permanence, concern for the total person, heightened emotionality, caring for one another, mutual goals, an altruistic orientation to members, and a governance approach that is nurturing.” Freidman, Bowden and Jones (2003) also states family is composed of persons joined together by bonds of marriage, blood, or adoption and residing in the same household (p.9). These are just some of the many definitions of family I have come across in my search. We are never given a chance to choose our family, however that is why knowing and learning the meaning of family is essential. The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate and define what family is. I will explain my own familial experiences over the years, and how this definition is constantly changing. I will also share the perspectives of others on how they view family. Finally, I will share my definition of family, including the theoretical foundation I find most helpful to explain it. Various Perspectives on Family In recent weeks, I have had the opportunity to speak with my own family, coworkers, and friends about what family means to them. My children described family as people who share unconditional love and respect, and someone who you can be close to and share your feelings with no matter your mood. Most of my friends...

Hum/100

...Ancient Cultures: Love HUM/100 Ancient Cultures: Love My love, I have tried with all my being to grasp a form comparable to thine own, but nothing seems worthy; I know now why Shakespeare could not compare his love to a summer’s day. It would be a crime to denounce the beauty of such a creature as thee, to simply cast away the precision God had placed in forging you. Each facet of your being whether it physical or spiritual is an ensnarement from which there is no release. But I do not wish release. I wish to stay entrapped forever. With you for all eternity, our hearts, always as one (Kolos, 2012). This is the image of love often and initially conjured when we talk about love. However, the word “love” can have a variety of related but distinct meaning in different contexts and cultures. We will look the definition of love and do a brief assessment of how ancient Greek and Romans viewed or definition of interpersonal love in their culture. We will compare their view to our modern day view/definition of interpersonal love. First let us look at our definition of love according to dictionary.com (2012). “Love is a profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person. A feeling of warm personal attachment or deep affection, as for parent, child, or friend. Sexual passion or desire. A person toward whom love is felt; beloved person; sweetheart.” There were many more definitions addressed representing all of human kindness, compassion, and affections...

...The general definition of family usually involves DNA. This is reiterated when you look at the Monarchal system across various nations at various times, including the most notable ones such as England, France, and Spain. For those who need some refreshing, in the Monarchal system a king or queen passes his or her thrown down to their first born, and this cycle continues. Even today royal families still exist and maintain a higher status than the average person simply because they were born into the right family. However, I think that there is a lot more meaning to the word family. Few people mention the most important part of family, which is love. While there are many others who acknowledge this emotional aspect of family, most people still...

Family

...family we must first look at the definition of family. According to Merriam Webster Online there are many different definitions of the word family. The main ones are that family is a group of individuals living under one roof and usually under one head, the second definition is, a group of persons of common ancestry and the third definition is a group of people united by certain convictions or a common affiliation. In these three definitions only the second definition involves a bloodline that connects the individuals to one another. Each of these three definitions expresses different views of what family is. To me, the criteria for family is much deeper than being from the same bloodline. As Christians we are taught to believe that we are all family and related to one another. Unfortunately, in this day and age we do not keep Family is that person or group of people who will and do love you unconditionally, help to take care of you mentally and financially and help to look out for your wellbeing. Family, to me can be your friends whom which you have built a very close bond and relationship with. In some instances your friends may be your only family. Those people whom you consider friends may be the only ones in your life that look out for you and love and do all that they can to help you out in any way possible. In my life I have some of those exact same people in my life. I have friends who I consider sisters...

Shakespearian Poetry - a Comparison Between Sonnets Xviii & Cxxx

...Many artists discover their love for art and the effect it has on people at a very young age, as did Shakespeare, as his poems reflect that he may have started writing as early as the age of 18 years old. His early sonnets are immature when compared to his later ones. Shakespeare’s use of nature imagery is clearly apparent in all his sonnets, but his use of nature imagery and its quality changes drastically. As his use of nature imagery changes, the tone of the sonnets also transforms, turning from being light-hearted and beautiful to dark and somewhat grotesque. More importantly, his definition of love itself takes on a different shape, going from physical attraction to a truer love. Finally, his allusions to religion become much more specific and more directed to the person he is writing about. Clearly Shakespeare’s poetry matures with time and is reflected by his definition of love and how differently it is expressed in Sonnet XVIII compared to Sonnet CXXX. In Sonnet XVIII, Shakespeare focuses on nature imagery to describe his young love. “…Thou art more lovely and more temperate: Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May, And summer’s lease hath all too short a date: Sometimes too hot the eye of heaven shines…” He begins by comparing the love to a summer’s day, but says she is more beautiful. He refers to summer being too short and the sun, at times, shining too brightly and making the day too hot, but other times the sun may be blocked by clouds completely. All of his...

Love: Elaine Hatfield, William Walster, And Francesca M. Cancian

...There are many different interpretations of love. The Webster’s II Dictionary Third Edition states that love is, “Intense affection; A feeling of attraction resulting from sexual desire” (Unknown 422). This is the official dictionary definition of love but there are many others including my own. Elaine Hatfield, William Walster, and Francesca M. Cancian have similar views of what love is; however, Paulo Coelho’s view is more closely related to mine. I believe that love is an uncontrollable force that can be both intimidating and beautiful at the same time. It is an intense feeling of desire for one person that can either result in extreme happiness or aching pain. It is a blessing and a curse. Love is the most confusing emotion a person can...

Love's Vocabulary By Diane Ackerman

...Love. The word itself has multiple meanings. However everyone knows what it is when they hear the word spoken. As Diane Ackerman puts it in her essay Love’s vocabulary “I believed what I had been told: that the idea of love was invented by the Greeks, and romantic love began in the Middle Ages. I know now how misguided such hearsay is. We can find romantic love in the earliest writings of our kind. Much of the vocabulary of love, and the imagery lovers use, has not changed for thousands of years” This shows that the idea of love has been around for thousands of years and even at the beginning of time. This could be considered an aspect of love. There are many aspects of love but like the quote “ Beauty is in the eye of the beholder” love is up to what the person feeling it wants it to be and this is why an aspect is that love has no perceivable definition. This is an aspect because, love can be interpreted in many ways, it can be identified in any time period or era and it can affect people in both a positive and negative manner. A key point in the aspect that love has no perceivable definition is that it can be interpreted many ways. For example Ackerman states that, “What is my goddaughter to think when she hears her mother say: “I love Ben & Jerry’s Cherry...
