...Growing up in Silverdale Washington, I am incredibly grateful for the community I had the opportunity to grow in. Silverdale is an open community home to many diverse people. I’ve met many wonderful and inspirational people here in Silverdale. Despite the many positive qualities, Silverdale is home to many own problems within its community. Students draw swastikas on posters, students use the N-slur and F-slur without remorse, many people struggle with mental health, and our community continues to be more polarized based on politics and upbringing. Silverdale’s community, despite its many challenges, has helped me become a better-rounded individual due to many interactions with various people of different backgrounds. I’ve done my best to...

...My Ideal Summer Vacation A warm and sunny afternoon last day, I was in a deep thought. I was thinking, if I would be given a chance to have a summer vacation without worrying about the expenses, maybe it could be my ideal one. This thought triggered me to ask myself, “What would be my ideal summer vacation looks like?” To start my visualization, I would like to spend it in a place afar from the noisy streets of the city. A place where the only sounds I can hear are the chirping of the birds, the waves crashing on the shore and the laughter of my family. In that place, the trees are dancing gracefully and flowers are waving gently with the wind. In the distance, the shore is filled with sand so white, crystal clear water and with porpoises on the sea side. On the top of the hill resides our home, a small bungalow type but filled with so much contentment and joy. Inside of it are simple things to suffice our needs. Upon entering the entrance door, you will see the clean and tidy living room, with a window on the right that offers a beautiful sight of the blue ocean. Beside our home, there stood a tall and old narra tree that gives us shade during the day. Flowers of different kinds and varieties grows around the yard abundantly. Then, I can see the endless sky above with shiny shimmering stars blinking at night and in the water, it seems the unreachable stars are within my grasp. In a distance, I can see the fire keeps burning from the bonfire we have made, and beside it,...

...History of nursing I entered nursing initial to have a reliable means of income. Nursing at the time was is large demand and I felt as though this was my way of insuring success. I completed my LPN in a technical education center and graduated feeling less than prepared for the requirements that were to come. I soon took a job were I did home visits and found myself becoming more compassionate for the patients that I would see. My ideals changed and I had a feeling of duty to the welfare of my impoverished patients. There were days that I would have to piece together 4X4 gauze with tape to create kurlex. I began collecting and dispersing supplies from others who donated their supply once they completed their treatment. This created a sense of gratitude and loyalty between both my patient and myself. As I continue to move along in my career goals I have maintained a sense of loyalty to this ideal. This is an ideal that my grandmother tried to convey to me from the beginning of my journey, as she to was a nurse even after she retired. Now, for the first time I have been required to read the history of nursing. Reading these stories has opened my eyes as to what nursing was and the pains it took to get to were it is today. I had no idea that nursing was ever looked at as a role for those who could do no better with their lives. Nor did I realize how passionate and committed these people were. Clara Barton, although not a nurse, developed a key organization, which...

A new home purchase is one of the most significant decisions people will make in their lifetime. There are many factors that can affect one’s overall decision to buy a home. When people consider making the jump from renting to owning, sometimes they mistakenly consider only the cost of the rent versus the cost of the mortgage payment. Unfortunately, some people make the decision to buy a home without considering these factors. In order to determine how much housing I can afford, I must factor in many things such as location suitable for raising a child, savings, other debts, personal preference, and income. Therefore, I have decided to purchase a home and will apply some of the ten principles of economics to ensure I’m making the right decisions along the way. Utilizing some of the ten principles of economics such as people face trade-offs, the cost of something is what you give up to get it, and people respond to incentives will help shape my decision so the home buying experience can be a thought out process altogether. Other essential factors that must be included are the marginal benefits and marginal costs associated with buying a home. ...very upscale preference. My childhood consisted of a lot of financial issues that I would like to never see again. I am currently learning about investments that could create a major cash flow, outside of my actual career job. The ideas that I plan on investing in consist of clothing designing, income property, flipped-homes, and valet parking accounts. The ideal situation for me, is to make more money without physically working outside of my actual career job. My family is really my main focus when I look to advance our income situation. I have two children currently and I expect to provide a lot more than what I had growing up. The biggest challenge is for me to become so stable, that there is no “panicking” when money is needed. The biggest difference between my childhood and my children will be a home purchase. My parent(s) did not ever think about purchasing a home and that’s all I think about. I want my children to understand that I will purchase instead of rent, because if all fails, they will have a home that can’t be taken away from them. My dream is to have two more children at some point, so I plan on purchasing a five-bedroom/3-4 bath home. I believe the size of this house will: 1.) be compatible for 4-8 people, 2.) have a big enough outdoor space for my student-athletes, and 3.) meet my standard of a home that I never had. As of right now, I am currently in college enhancing my education to become more valuable. I would like to complete my first flipped house or...

...this topic. Providing them with the right information and guidelines to face this issue is my goal. Besides being well aware and informed about the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, I am a person who is really passionate for food, cooking, and exercising. I am constantly reading and researching about nutritional news, facts and healthy ideas to include into my daily basis. Moreover, I am currently interning at WBHI, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to help women with breast cancer and heart disease. I am confident that prevention and education is key to a healthier and happier life. These are other secondary reasons why I felt motivated to teach students and professors in my community about “Healthy Lifestyle.” I will take advantage of this lesson as a way to educate my peers and professors using the right teaching techniques about what I already know and feel passionate about. First, I most understand their attitudes towards health and food. From past experiences and research, I have acknowledged that students and professors at college and universities like UM are relatively conscious about health issues. Most of them know and affirm that healthy patterns go in hand with a “mix” of food advantages like nutrition, quality, taste, and affordability and convenience (in most cases) together with physical exercise. However, many times they do not really know how achieve this ideal “mix”, or they actually think that they are making the right choices when they are really...

The war took him ten years and the voyage home is taking him ten meaning Odysseus has been gone for a total of twenty years. Odysseus is in fact a true hero, yet he does have flaws through either fulfilling, or failing to fulfill the following, arête, eudaimonia, and hubris. A perfect example of Odysseus not fulfilling arête is when they see Elpenor in The Kingdom of the Dead and he says the following: “Don’t sail off / and desert me, left behind unwept, unburied, don’t, / or my curse may draw god’s fury on your head” (Book XI 79-81). ...Some people say that your "Ideal Life" is nothing more than a fantasy, somewhat like World Peace. Michelangelo once said; "The greatest danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low, and achieving our mark." This is probably true for most people, but there are still some people out there who have wonderful goals and dreams, which will probably never get to see any of them, come true. I just hope and pray that I am one of the lucky ones! With out our dreams what do we have to live for? When asked what my "ideal life" situation would be, I had no option but to admit that I did not have a clue. But the more that I think about it, the more that I realize that maybe I was wrong, maybe I know what I want, maybe I am just afraid that I wouldn't be able to achieve my goals, But what's the point of goals if you don't have to strive to reach them? If I could have my "ideal job", it would be a High school Teacher, or something along those lines. I really want to be able to help someone in the way that people have helped me. So therefore, my "ideal career" would have to include the opportunity to help Children and Teens. I feel that with all that I have been through, I would be able to help kids because I would be able to relate to them, and know where they are coming from. There are so many kids out there who do not have anyone to turn to, and if I could just be that person for one child, it would make my life worth living. I always...
