...‘ Nature of Thougt PHL/251 August 8, 2013 Instructor Nature of Thought Thought plays a significant role in our day to day lives. From the time we wake up, to the time we go to sleep, we are thinking. Thinking, sensing, memory, perceptions, personal barriers, and thoughts are key influences to the nature of thought process. In this paper, I will describe my nature of thoughts and how it impacts my views of the thoughts process. Thinking is the practice of using one’s awareness to contemplate or reason about something. In order to think, one must use their senses. The sensing process allows us to use our senses to process our thoughts. There are five senses that everyone has, and they are sight, hearing, smell, touch, and taste. Memory is another vital feature of thinking. Memory is the processes that one uses to gain, collect, recollect and eventually recover information. The medium of thinking it the final part of thinking. The medium is considered the most dynamic part of thinking. It medium is transmitted into the brain. Language is a part of the thinking medium. If a person is without language, they will be incapable of expressing or interpreting information to recall or to think. When I was 19 years old, I joined the United States Army. I was so nervous when it was time to leave my loved ones and go to basic training. I had heard so many horror stories about basic training. Even though I was nervous, I knew that God would give me the strength to make it through...

...Nature of thought Pedro A Prieto PHL/251 Oct 27 2014 Philip Grochmal Nature of Thought Every human is unique. We all have our own thoughts and opinions and we are able to express ourselves in many different ways, as we are also able to learn from each other. No two humans think alike, it could be because of social backgrounds, cultural differences or it could be the way we see things. We as humans express ourselves in many different ways. We can express ourselves by talking, writing a letter, music and art. I think that we express our thoughts because we have something to say as individuals and we want our ideas to be heard, also we have the need to be recognized. “To base thought only on speech is to try nailing whispers to the wall” (Rosenthal, 1994). I try to enhance my memory by reading and remembering things from the past to keep everything fresh on my mind. Lately I have been trying some memory games like luminosity and brain academy, I found that my memory has improved in certain areas. Last year I thought my daughter was going to graduate in December but the reality was that she was not going to graduate on time, my perception was that I thought that her studies were on track. The reality was that she did not tell me that she failed one of her classes and she had to retake it in order to graduate. There was a difference between my perception and reality because I was misinformed. I felt empowered by my language because I was able to communicate...

...Personal Responsibility: A Students Perspective Personal responsibility can be seen as many things. It can be seen as a moral, metal accountability, reliability or trustworthiness (“Merriam Webster,”). While making excuses, individuals who use an ethical lens of rights and responsibility utilize a number of traits when assuming personal responsibility for college success. In my personal responsibility essay I would like to identify a few of the traits a responsible person should possess for college success. Define what personal responsibility means to me. Explain the correlation of personal responsibility and college success. I also will outline a preliminary plan to practice personal responsibility with in my education. When a student uses rights and responsibility to accept responsibility in order to achieve college success, he or she must possess a number of traits. One such trait would be the ability to reason. Reason is the ability to use critical thinking as means for learning and complex problem solving. Students who possess this trait are also excellent at gathering and analyzing information in order to make an informed decision. Another trait that students who use the rights and responsibility lens display is self-knowledge. This individual knows what they are doing and why they are doing it. When this type of person commits to something they follow through. These are a few of the traits that I feel a student would to possess when accepting personal...

I have revealed new weaknesses and strengths that I will continue to work on as I continue taking writing classes. Throughout my Writing 122 class I have accomplished a number of reader’s responses that have allowed me to reflect and express my opinion on the subjects assigned and essays that have allowed me to express my strengths and weaknesses in the course. My ability to write and express my ideas, thoughts and knowledge has grown stronger each week. I have always struggled to put my thoughts on paper in a manner that is coherent and correct according to assignments as-well as proper punctuation. I can remember being told numerous times in high school to “organize my thoughts” or “provide more support and examples”. These are the things that I have worked on and improved over the past couple of weeks and I feel that my work shows this. Moving through the first essay to the last essay I...

...the question; “Should Justin Ellsworth’s Parents have been given access to his email?” This is a very debatable question. It is my belief based upon my values and life experiences to take the position that his parents should not be given access to his e-mail. First, let us consider the utilitarian aspect of the question. Utilitarianism, as defined by the notes under the Module 1 home page, “the assessment of good versus bad consequences of an action and choosing the course of action that best serves the greatest good for the greatest number”. In the Ellsworth case there are many factors to consider. Positive factors include many interests by both parties. One example is the obligation for Yahoo as an Internet Service Provider (ISP) to honor their contractual agreement. Another positive factor for Justin’s parents is the ability to gain some additional insight into his personal life, something they may need for personal closure and the parental need to know more about their son’s life. A negative aspect of this case is the ultimate disclosure of communications that were private between Justin and another individual. If he meant for his parents to receive a copy of the communication he could have simply courtesy copied or blind copied them on the email string. Another negative aspect is the fact that his emails contained his personal thoughts and ideas and were not meant nor intended to be read by anyone other than the addressee. I am certain we all feel that our right...

...Newman Myers The Nature of Thinking The nature of thought plays a huge role in an individual’s everyday life, weather it is their home life or professional life. As human beings we are faced with various situations that will require thinking. It is human nature for our thought process to be influenced by perception and personal barriers. This paper will discuss why as humans our thought process is so unique, how perception can completely change a situation in our thoughts and how personal barriers can also influence your thinking. According to Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary thinking is “the action of using your mind to produce ideas, decisions, memories etc.: the activity of thinking about something: opinion or judgement”. (Merriam-Webster) Human thinking is very unique because of the fact that we as humans have feelings. Our thoughts and feelings are often intertwined and can have a huge influence on each other. People express their thoughts in many different ways. A few examples are: verbally, written form which can be through a letter, text message writing a song or poetry an email, thoughts can even be expressed physically through facial expressions and hand gestures. Why is it we as humans do this, well because without communicating our thoughts we cannot continue to learn and grow For example, if a person had a thought that the sky was purple and the clouds were pink but they never communicated this thought to anyone, they would never learn that the true color...

...people real and shapes who they are. It is composed of their thoughts, feelings, behaviors and beliefs. This allows for others to see what type of person someone is based off how one may act. It is human nature to judge others by their actions and not be aware of influential factors like the environment that have shaped a person the way they are. For this paper, I will express my opinion on how the environment is the driving force behind feelings, behaviors, thoughts and beliefs strictly based on my own life experiences. Based on that I will conclude as to why people seek therapy and what my role as a counselor is. This is an evaluation of my own life philosophies that will give me a better understanding of my own personal theory. Personality Freewill versus Determinism Life is full of opportunities, what someone will make of them is mainly up to their determinism. I believe that sixty percent of determinism makes up a person’s personality while the other forty percent is free will. It is my opinion that free will has to originate from someone’s genuine desire for change. I believe that many people lack free will because it takes a lot of will power from within; something that people struggle with.. This is why I believe that determinism plays a bigger role in a person’s personality because before a person can do things on their own, their environment and or biology are the determining factors. For example, my brother Matt’s struggles with making the right choices because...

...Nature of Thought PHL/251 January 30, 2015 James Lorthridge Nature of Thought William Blake said “Tell me what is a thought and of what substance is it made?” (Kirby & Goodpaster, 2007). Human thinking is unique because neurologists have discovered areas of the mind, except thought. The Nobel laureate author Gerald Edelman at the beginning of this millennium said, “What goes on in your head when you have a thought . . . the answer must still be: we do not really know” (2000, p. 201) (Kirby & Goodpaster, 2007). In other words, there are sill regions to be revealed about the brain. The thought process remains a mystery with a model yet to be found. Expressing Thoughts The only way humans can express their thought is through communication. Thinking can be viewed as communicating. “One way to reach a definition is by observing the results of thinking as expressed in human communication” (Kirby & Goodpaster, 2007). Therefore, we can define thinking as the activity of the brain that can potentially be communicated, and expressed in speaking and writing. However, there are multiple outlets of communications, for instance: * Language * Images * Art * Scientific formulas * Mathematics Even though most of these communication forms are effective in their own way, the primary human communication is language. Speaking, writing, and reading is the human form of communicating with one another. Memory An important part of the human thought process...

This paper I am writing will describe my view of philosophy of nursing which everybody has different beliefs about nursing overall. In my paper I define a nurse as someone who is an advocate, compassionate, caring, educated, and encouraging about their career in every aspect. Personal, Cultural, and Spiritual Values Since I was twelve years old, I have wanted to become a nurse to help others because of my parents. My father broke his neck when I was twelve and it was devastating because he was a piece of me I didn’t want to live without and he was there for me for everything. I watched my father and family struggle when this accident happened and it was hard to adjust. My dad lived in Las Vegas for almost two years going through surgeries and rehabilitation after the accident and by watching the amazing physicians and nurses working with my father had me amazed, inspired to achieve something great in my life and that choice was to become a nurse. I believe the personal values a nurse holds for themselves is a critical role in their profession of nursing and can have an impact on how ones community accepts the...

...Personal Goals Tracy Saunier HCS/301 September 16, 2014 Nancy Shultes Personal Goals Setting goals and achieving them are essential components for personal growth and development. When we set goals for ourselves we never set out thinking failure is an option. There are always barriers to overcome, but overcoming the milestones keep us motivated to achieve what we originally set out to do. My personal goals for the future consist of relocating, followed by a professional promotion into management, and completing my degree in order to have a successful life ahead of me. A personal short term goal of mine is to sell my home. I am preparing my home for resale and hope to place it on the market with a realtor in the next few months. There have been many barriers to overcome to overcome in this preparation. To date, I have replaced the kitchen, bathrooms, air conditioner, carpet, tile, and painted inside and out. There are still a few cosmetic things I need to do such as fixing up the yard and staining the driveway. Once those things are completed I will contact the realtor to obtain an appraisal to see how much I can list my property for. My long term personal goal is downsizing from my current five bedroom home and purchasing a town home. Three of my four children are grown and have moved into their own homes which just leaves myself and my youngest daughter. Living in this large house is no longer necessary nor financially beneficial. With the help of a realtor along...

...Personal Responsibility is Personal T-ata DeHart-Williams GEN/200 June 20,2012 Lois Blyden Personal Responsibility is Personal Personal responsibility begins with an individual being solely accountable for one’s words and deeds, as a result of centering one’s thoughts on a set standard of beliefs and with proper implementation, a personally responsible person can succeed in college and achieve their goals. William E. Henley (1888) captured the essence of personal responsibility in the last two lines of his poem “Invictus”: “I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul” (Henley,1888, A Book of Verses). Every individual is at the helm of their own triumphs and just as censurable for every defeat. The level of success we obtain is a direct result of the amount of personal responsibility we practice. Each individual was created for a specific purpose that can only be fulfilled by them. Personal responsibility is not a team effort. This paper will provide my definition of personal responsibility and how it is connected to my college education along with my plan to practice personal responsibility in my quest for higher education. Accountability is key The key to having personal responsibility is accountability- willingly accepting responsibility for one’s actions. It is also important to be able to recognize one’s flaws and shortcomings. The ability to admit the...

...define what my values and beliefs measure in my life. What proved to be easy was the “free week” because most individuals (such as myself) have an vacation spot imagined and planned just in case the opportunity present itself. The most difficult, was to see myself as a counselor that cannot affiliate my faith with my duties as a counselor. What I am most passionate about I cannot share with others. A value can be best defined as a belief, a mission, or a philosophy that is meaningful. Whether we are consciously aware of them or not, every individual has a core set of personal values. Values can range from the commonplace, such as the belief in hard work and punctuality, to the more psychological, such as self-reliance, concern for others, and harmony of purpose. However, when personal values are discussed it is mostly defined on key values that pertains to myself and not others. As I begin to think about the funeral, the free week, and change the most important part that captured my attention was that every answer that I explored was centered on my faith. At the funeral, I was thinking how everyone would say that I was a great example of a “Christian” and describe how I was willing to do anything for anybody. I imagined all these nice things people would say, but also I thought about if they would really say these things because they were accurate or because it was the right thing to say at a funeral. It was interesting that all my answers and thoughts revolved around my faith...
