...My interest in NYU is not something that just came about recently. Living in New York City most of my life, I grew up hearing all about the university. I've visited the Campus many times for college expos, graduations, visiting my cousin's dorm and many other events. Although moving to the suburbs was a great learning experience, I want to go back to the city. I enjoy having everything I need at a walking distance or a train ride away. I enjoy walking out and seeing many outside, even if they are all strangers. I do enjoy the peace and quiet of the suburbs but there is nothing like the concrete jungle. Lower Manhattan is where I envision myself in the near future. Being from a hispanic background I can offer the university diversity. I want...

...Personal Statement Graduate Application for Admission to Master in Computer Science Program in New York University, Tandon School of Engineering. Zhenbo Zhang My major passions are in science, mathematics and logical thinking, and I believe that Computer Science must be the inventive fusion of these disciplines. My original interests in the fields of Computer Science date back to my years in elementary school, I took the first Computer Science class in LOGO programming language. When the movements of the turtle, an on-screen “cursor”, formed a rather simple line graph as my commands instructed, it was easily one of the most memorable moments on record as I felt an unprecedented sense of accomplishment. Growing up, I was fortunate enough to...

...REMARKS BY CHAIRMAN ARTHUR LEVITT SECURITIES AND EXCHANGE COMMISSION THE "NUMBERS GAME" NYU CENTER FOR LAW AND BUSINESS, NEW YORK, N.Y. SEPTEMBER 28, 1998 Thank you very much. Dean Daly, Dean Sexton and to everyone gathered this evening, thank you for welcoming me tonight. I am honored to be here on such an auspicious evening for both NYU and Bill Allen. The creation of the Center for Law and Business recognizes an important truth: we cannot continue to view the worlds of business and law as parallel but separate universes. And NYU could not have selected a more qualified or thoughtful individual than Bill as its first director. His leadership of the Delaware Court of Chancery -- acknowledged as the nation's most influential arbiter of corporate law -- confirmed his reputation as a great thinker who effortlessly bridges the worlds of law and business. I've heard from friends on Wall Street that it's a far less stressful experience to hear Bill lecture in front of a classroom than from his former seat on the bench. Seven months ago, I expressed concerns about selective disclosure. Through conference calls or embargoed press releases, analysts and institutional investors often hear about material news before it is made public. In the interval, there is a great deal of unusual trading. The practice had been going on for a long time. And, while everyone was aware of it, and most were extremely uncomfortable with it, few spoke out. As the investor's advocate, the SEC did and we will...

...they are events that fall within our blind spots, are oblivious not only to the mind but also to thought due to psychological biases that make people individually and collectively blind to uncertainty and unaware of the massive role of the rare event in historical affairs. Black swan events were introduced by Nassim Taleb in his 2004 book, Fooled By Randomness, which concerned financial events. In his 2007 book (revised and completed in 2010), The Black Swan, Taleb extended the metaphor to events outside of financial markets. Taleb regards almost all major scientific discoveries, historical events, and artistic accomplishments as "black swans"—as they were/are undirected and unpredicted. He cites the rise of the Internet, the personal computer, World War I, and the September 11 attacks, and the 2007 financial crisis as typical examples of black swan events. Originally, the black Swan phrase was a common expression...

...A Traditional Marriage Jason Lafrades University of Phoenix Business Communications and Critical Thinking 275 Kathy Rodriguez-Abbott July 25, 2013 A Traditional Marriage John R. Guardiano wrote an article in the American Spectator titled, “Why Gay ‘Marriage Equality’ Is Bad for America and Hurts Children.” In his article, he argues that gay marriage is not “traditional.” His idea of a traditional marriage is one between a man and woman, which he considers to be the foundation for a strong family. He calls a gay union a direct undermining of the sanctity of marriage. He argues that families with a mother and father will raise stronger children with less socioeconomic boundaries. He states that without a union between a man and woman, there is no chance for a “strong in-tact family.” Therefore, with the support of gay marriage he believes that children will be bombarded with drugs, crime, and poverty because of a missing “family” link. Guardiano also argues that “Fatherless children” are more likely to abuse drugs and alcohol, become incarcerated, and have reduced educational achievements. He says that gay marriage has a direct effect on this because it deprives a child of a father or mother. He concludes his article in stating that not all fatherless and motherless children are doomed to fail, but by further undermining marriage through “misplaced notions of equality” children are just one step further from becoming well-adjusted and successful into adulthood. (Guardiano...

It can. However, IT departments are constantly seen as “service providers” to the organization. CEOs that sit at the top of the organizational...

...DECRIMINALIZATION OF PROSTITUTION: AN INMODEST PROPOSAL An Annotated Bibliography Bristol Community College 04/25/2016 Elmer Paz Prostitution is the sale of sexual services in exchange for money or other compensation. A person exercising prostitution called prostitute. Prostitution is one of the jobs and social phenomena that responds to human sexual desire, and in many cases, the need for affection and understanding, seeking relief from loneliness and isolation, especially in the big cities. Prostitution is included within the so-called "victimless crimes", i.e. those committed by adults with legal capacity whose behavior does not harm anyone or does not affect the rights of third parties. It is a voluntary transaction for sexual services in exchange for money. This occurs because the parties involved in it expect to obtain mutual satisfaction. Otherwise, the business relationship would not take place. Prostitution, a universal reality, remains a pending issue for most advanced democracies, specifically in the United States. Some countries have tackled the problem from different points of view, with more or less success, but the answer is not simple. There is a huge need to pose prostitution as a legal job and decriminalize it in order to increase control and protection of women. Prostitution should not be a crime. Prostitutes are not committing an inherently harmful act. While the spread of disease and other detriments are possible in the practice of prostitution, criminalization...

...The International Olympic Committee: Promoters of Peace or a Committee of Ignorance Throughout the history of the modern Olympics, numerous countries have boycotted the games due to political and social outcries. However, in very few cases has the International Olympic Committee reversed the favor and refused to invite specific countries to the Olympics to compete. These countries have included Japan, Germany, and even South Africa. Recent events of the past four decades have caused a loud uproar among countries and even organizations to exclude the country of Iran from the 2012 Olympic Games in London. It is found to be an evident case that Iran is an example of a country that completely contradicts the Olympics’ purpose in a variety of ways and therefore should not be allowed to contend. In the past century, three countries have been denied the right to compete in the Olympics for different reasons that the IOC believed as unforgiveable. According to Larry Zuckerman (2004), in 1920 and 1924 Germany was banned from the Olympics after WWI due to inhumane acts during the war such as the mass killings, lootings, and burnings of towns known as the Rape of Belgium. They were also ostracized due to their direct influence of bringing Europe into the war. In 1948, both Germany and Japan were not invited to the London games. According to George Duncan (n.d.), the two countries attributed to the massacre of civilians such as the genocide of the Jews by the Nazi’s, and the mass killings...

...Web Pages Analysis – Module 7 As the world of technology progresses every day, having a website has become crucial for businesses and schools. “With costs being extremely low at the entry level, it's becoming difficult to imagine a reason for any company of any size not to have a website.” [1] There are multiple benefits of having a website such as: save time and cost, increase sales, services, and accessibility, higher credibility, and so forth. For this research paper I will be analyzing six web pages. Based on the e-business I’m creating, three business pages I’m reviewing are: Essay Lab, Smart Writing Services and Ninja Essays. The remaining three web sites are: Suffolk Community College, Nassau Community College and Dr. Ebrahimi’s website. To begin with, Essay Lab is one of the three writing service businesses I’ve selected. The home page of this particular business is informative and gives a good idea of what the business is about and why would a person need to use their service. However, I feel more information to support their business could be provided. Another issue is the content is not direct to the point; instead it drags on causing lack of interest to the reader. Stating live chat availability and not actually providing it is another problem with the website which fails to meet the 7x2C standard of ‘Completeness and Coverage’. On the other hand, the navigation is consistent and effective. The organization of the website as well is intuitive and easy to...

...Communication Webster University By: Tanya Egor Presented to Professor Nick Daher In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Course MNGT 5000 Introduction “Communication is the transmission of information and meanings from one party to another through the use of shared symbols” (Batemen & Snell, 2011, p532). There are many ways to share information from verbal to non-verbal to written. Communicating is one of the most important things one needs to do as an individual and as a leader. As a leader, one is responsible to share information with their co-works, their boss and/or their employees. In this paper, we will cover the following: What is Communication, specific research focus, practical business applications and a concise analysis of the Zingerman’s Community of Business case from the textbook. What is Communication? As stated above, communication is the sharing of information. There are three important parts involved in communicating: the sender, the receiver and communication channels (verbal or written). Communication can be either one-way or two-way communication. One-way is when the information flows one way, such as one giving information to ones employees.
