Nannie Doss was born in 1905 in Blue Mountain, Alabama. Her father was abusive and limited her freedom when she was growing up. He would demand that they miss school and work on the family farm. Nannie said that she sustained head trauma from an injury she had at seven. The event was that she was on a train when it suddenly stopped and after that she suffered from headaches, blackouts and depression (Murderpedia). This is believed to be the reason for her mental instability (Hendon, 2010). At the age of 16 she met her future husband Charlie Braggs. He is known as the only one that got away because all of her other husbands were murdered. The marriage made four children and the two middle daughters died from what was thought to be food poisoning
