...groups include: • Investors / shareholders • Employees • Lenders • Suppliers • Customers • Government • Public What then are the needs of these groups and how would they use the published statements? Investor Group This group would comprise both existing and potential shareholders. They would consider whether to invest or disinvest in the business. Equity investors consider two elements to their investment, income and gain. Income in the form of dividends and gain in the share price. If the investor takes a short-term view then current dividends are of interest. Whereas a longer-term view would concern future earnings. A guide to the future can to some extent be seen in company reports with the chairman’s statement, although based on current performance, company forward strategy is often included. The investor group would also be interested in profitability and its trend over a period of time. Employees It is encouraging to note that some companies produce a separate employees report. Employees and their representatives require information on business performance for two principal reasons: • wage and salary negotiation • assessment of current and forward opportunity in terms of employment They would be interested in both the current financial stability and the longer-term financial viability of the business. They need information in a clear, simple and understandable form. I have seen some employee reports which include a value added approach rather than...

...Acquisition Assignment 1- The Statement of Need Anthony Childs Strayer University 23 April 2011 For this assignment, I have chosen the Department of Energy. As a contracting officer, I have been tasked with overseeing the acquisition of a proprietary database program for the entire Research and Development department. * Explain how you would go about developing the statement of need? Give examples of the information required and factors to be considered. To begin the process of acquiring the new program, I would first develop a Statement of Need (SoN). Once the database program that we were currently using had been determined to be obsolete or no longer suitable for our needs (or, even better, if we had made this determination well in advance of the program actually failing to meet our requirements), a new proprietary database program would have to be developed (or purchased) and then phased in to replace our current system. In order to spend any of our precious government funds, I would have to make a case for why we wanted to buy a new program. One of the first things that I would do would be to speak to the users of the system to determine what exactly the current program was being used for, and how it was being used. Besides speaking with the individuals within the Department of Energy who used the program the most, I would also speak to the vendors (or developers) of the program to get their input as well. I would then find out what (beyond our current uses)...

...factors that need to be taken into consideration when dealing with mishaps like this. There are legal factors that need to be considered first before the company can outreach to anyone. The first release will be the one to the families and internal staff of the mining company. The second will be the statement made to the local news and general public. Will show how the organization plans to ensure how the statements are not misinterpreted. The first statement should be made to families and staff in a face to face setting so that the families can see the concern and worry that the company has for all the miners that are directly involves and those that are indirectly involved. The statement should be face to face so that there is a chance to explain what is known and what is in the planning stages the rectify the situation and free the trapped miners. The statement will also inform all that are impacted by the incident of the different channels that are going to be in place or are already in place to help all that are impacted to get the help that they are going to need. The statement would also detail the latest plan to get the trapped miners out of the mine. It would also include the locations of where the mines were working and where the closest safety point where food, water, and fresh air is located. The family and coworkers statement would be more frequent then the other statements that would be released to other media outlets. The family and coworkers statements would also...

...victims of the disaster will need a different type of communication than will the employees of the company. During the Chilean mine collapse in 2010, 33 miners were trapped in a mine for 70 days before being rescued. During this time, neither the families of the men trapped nor the other employees of the company knew if the men would be rescued, or if they would perish underground. The men were eventually rescued, which was great for both the business and the families. However, it could easily have gone the other way, and destroyed the lives of the families involved and the other employees at the company. When communicating with the families of the miners, it is important for the business to stay positive, yet remorseful. Especially in the beginning, the family will want to hear sincere remorse from the business for the accident that occurred. However, since they are unsure if the miners are alive, the company should focus on keeping hope alive and attempt to keep spirits up. The company would want to show support for the families, offer counseling, and show the families that the company is making every effort to rescue their loved ones. The company would also need to avoid making statements that could hold themselves liable for the accident due to future litigation. The statement should be made publicly via television or newspaper with follow up visits to all of the affected family members by a representative of the company. A draft of this statement to the...

...Re: | Official Language of Financial Statement | Comments: | I believe that there should be an official language for the Financial Statement. Using only one language in business world is easy for business people to communicate with each other. There are translators and translation software; however, those methods cost money and there is no guaranteed that those methods don’t have any flaw. Small flaws in business world could cost lots of money. Business people are expected to be ethical but among those people, there are some people that are tempted and will commit unethical act. Using translators and translation software could give those people an opportunity to commit an unethical act. Learning a new language is not an easy task, but to be among those people in the business world is not an easy task either. If they could be there in the business world, then learning a new language shouldn’t be that hard. Some companies might just satisfy with what they have and don’t want to seek to expand internationally. However, if there is a chance for them to do so, then they will not throw it away. Because to be in that position today, they must always have that desire to move forward and take risks. People that has no desires and are not willing to take risks wouldn’t be in that position today. Even if there is a small group people who are tired of taking risks after they took so many risks, then they could just learn a new language just in case they will change their minds in the future...

...area. I tend to look at life in terms of Murphy’s Law, which states “Whatever can go wrong will go wrong.” So as a result I try to stay safe and protected in case certain negative things may happen. Also I like to say that I expect the best but am prepared for the worst to happen. Which makes sense, but it also tends to lean more towards negativity. I would like to be able to expect good things to happen and therefore I will hopefully make a more positive life a self-fulfilling prophecy. 2. Where did you place your statement so you could see it every day? What statement did you use? Clearly write the change you want to make. Use strong, affirmative language to motivate yourself, such as “I will start speaking up in class,” or “I will share my opinions in meetings.” The statement I decided to use is “Stay positive and walk boldly. Expect the best and make it happen.” I feel this summarizes what I need to do on an ongoing basis. I have placed this statement on a sticky note and have it on my computer at work where I will be able to see it every day. This should help to remind me that I am capable of doing great things and that I can also move forward in a more positive way. 3. Refine your general goal by making sure it is realistic and fair. Write out your refined goal using specific language from the text: “I want to show my two best friends that I am paying attention when they talk to me,” or “I want to make one comment in each meeting of one class this week,” for example...

...DEPARTMENT From: Beth Riordan Manufacturing To: Accounting Department Cc: John Subject: Status of Due Diligence Investigation All Concerned - Just an update on the DD report, everything went out as planned, the return data request included a checklist that covered the following areas; corporate matters, financial statements, tax/governmental reports and compliance, personal property, contracts and agreements, real property, intellectual property, insurance, litigation, affiliate transactions or arrangements, and environmental protection. I realize some of these areas may not apply to this particular company, but I wanted to make sure I covered all bases. Better to ask and have it not apply than not ask and miss important information. They have replied on some of the areas, mostly the easy ones that had little or nothing to report back, and they have addressed some of the financial information. However, there seems to be a little delay with most of what we need. I have had a few calls, most were asking for clarification on the data requested. Once I answered their questions, more calls came in requesting an extended due date. I have advised them that they need to get the information to us as quickly as possible and have suggested that they supply data piecemeal, as they get it...

...retirement”. How true is this statement? For instance, personal financial planning is only suitable for those who are nearing retirement and not for other age groups of people. We do not really agree with that statement. Because people in different lifecycle are indeed requiring different kind of needs and wants in their life, thus, financial planning is important for everyone who wishes to achieve their financial goals. In addition, when there are existence of needs and wants in our life, everything would cost us money because money is the medium of exchange in this era. Due to this matter, meeting the rising cost of living and improving the standard of living would be a problem when we do not plan our financial side carefully.
