...Analysis of Newspaper Research Report Results Paper Diana Hernandez HCS/438 6/8/2015 Dr. Silvio Di Gregorio Introduction In this article, Wang (2014) has written about several studies which allow us to explore the possibility of risk factors that are associated with the link to autism before birth, and to look at what scientific evidence is showing as opposed to what the media coverage speculates about autism. This challenges us to approach the risks of autism different from what recent press attention has written about it and to explore other clues into autistic brains. The Statistical Procedures Mentioned in the Study New studies show that abnormalities may appear in autistic brains prior to birth. The purpose of this article is to open people’s eyes to true risk factors associated with autism and not false beliefs. The measure of risk ratio was used to compare odds of different circumstances in the life and environment of autistic children. The big question Wang asks is “How large is the increase risk for autism?” According to the CDC (2015), the Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring (ADDM) network estimates one out of every 68 children is identified with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD). In the last few years, the focus has shifted from environmental factors and the diagnosis at the age of two or three, and the new focus is on the importance of inheritance factors. The risk factors are divided into two sections. One side shows the amount of time...

...Discuss the role of market research in Divya Bhaskar success in Gujarat? Do you think the research findings helped it in becoming the number one newspaper? Divya Bhaskar, before its launch group conducted a large consumer survey with individuals & focus group interviews of 12 lakh households in and around Ahmadabad. After studying the market for 6 months the group found that 70% of readers were not happy with the reality coverage of current newspapers because they felt that the credibility of the news was questionable. The in order to grab a market share in Gujarat, the Dainik Bhaskar, an Indian newspaper in order to make a mark in Gujarat they had to conduct a market research to study the market which in turn helped them to dethrone, almost overnight, the kings of the markets namely Gujarat-Samachar and Sandesh. ...opportunities? Answer the same questions for USAToday.com. By conducting research and analysis Gannett determined that there were two trends/opportunities that he could take advantage of; one was that an increasingly short attention span among a generation nurtured on television and the other was that there was a growing hunger for more information. With this information Gannet made the newspaper’s primary mission to provide more news in less time. Research suggested that this paper should target achievement-oriented men in professional and management positions who were heavy newspaper readers and frequent travelers. Unlike the other companies/competitors who targeted upper America, Gannett’s company would target middle America- young, well-educated Americans who were on the move and cared about the news and current events. Gannett listened to what the readers wanted and ensured that USA Today would market just that. With this information in hand, Gannett capitalized on it by putting together a team of news, advertising, and production personnel staff from his daily news who developed, edited, published and tested different prototypes. From those prototypes three 40-page versions were sent out to about 5,000 professional people along with a response card for feedback. Marketplace feedback showed that readers liked the prototypes so the Board of Directors voted unanimously to launch the paper starting in the Washington and Baltimore areas. In September 1982, 155,000...

...1. Introduction Extensive research has been conducted on the topic of how media circulation affects political accountability and government policy. Theory predicts that for a higher share of media receivers, political accountability and hence government expenditures increase. Besley & Burgess (2002) give additional insight into this topic by analyzing the impact of media circulation on government responsiveness to falls in food production and crop flood damage in Indian states. The authors use the extent of public food distribution and calamity relief as proxies for government responsiveness. In addition to media factors, political and economic factors are introduced as potential determinants of policies. The predictions of the theory are underlined by the results of the paper: Government responsiveness increases with a higher amount of media users within a state. Further, political factors are also relevant determinants, whereas, economic factors are of low importance. In the following, the paper will be critically assessed within these sections. First, the theory, the propositions as well as the empirical strategy are introduced and compared to discussions in class. Second, the results of the paper are outlined. Third, the empirical strategy as well as the results will be analyzed and compared to prior research and theory. Finally, a short conclusion and outlook will be given. 2. How did the company learn about and respond to the opportunities? Answer these same questions for USATODAY.COM. One of the opportunities that Gannett Co., Inc. noticed in the marketing environment that led to the launch of USA Today was a void in the newspaper market that targeted Middle America. The New York Times targeted those defined as the “nation’s intellectual elite” and The Wall Street Journal focused its effects towards business leaders. Through research, Gannett learned that the paper should target “achievement-oriented men in professional and managerial positions who were heavy newspaper readers and frequent travelers.” Gannett decided to act upon two trends in the reading public, in which there was a declining attention span in reading for a generation that had grown/ was growing up with television, as well as people’s growing desire to have more information at their disposal.
