This paper will explore the importance of personal reflection in nursing practice and how it is a fundamental skill in the field. It also looks into how personal reflection moulds a nurse though reflection on experience and development in the preforming of tasks and skills that provide the best possible patient care. The next section analyses and explains the skill of taking a blood glucose level reading; known as a BGL that was preformed during an intensive workshop. It further looks into a personal reflection of how I felt I preformed the skill. The following paragraph identifies how I know that I preformed the skill well during the intensive workshop with rationales to support my performance. The paper then goes to conclude how I know that …show more content…
In addition, I gained more experience each time I had the opportunity to preform the procedure and it was though reflection of these experiences I was able to complete the blood glucose level with competence during the intensive assessment. I also ensured that I had the knowledge as well as an understanding of the procedure though online video tutorials and reading of credible internet articles on how to successfully complete a blood glucose level (Measuring Your Blood Sugar 2016). This enabled me to compare my knowledge of testing a patient’s sugar levels with a demonstration that allowed me to prepare before starting the procedure. With some knowledge I then took this to practice during the intensive workshops where each day I was able to complete a blood glucose level reading that built my experience but also my confidence. It was here I was able to have a tutor not only demonstrate the task but provide feedback on how I was preforming it. This feedback which was positive and correcting is how I know that I can now and did perform the skill well during my assessment, hence passing of the
