...Al-Qari Starting an RF Bank in the United States This one of the best articles I’ve ever read. It is quoted from The Art of Islamic Banking and Finance Book and shows us the hard and lengthy efforts that the author went into to start a Riba-Free bank in the United States which is a banking sector targeting people from all faith and not only Muslims. The author focus was not just to convey the Shariah’s letter but also to satisfy anyone who believes in Judeo-Christian-Islamic values. I agree with the author that Riba Free Banking system is fair since it is an ethical system that complies with Shariah as mentioned in Quraan and Sunna. From my reading of the article I can consider the author as the Father of Riba Free Banking in the United States. There are a lot of benefits for starting Riba Free Banking system in America such as providing people (Muslims and non-Muslims) with larger choices and enable products’ diversifications. It will also increase the competition between Riba Free Banking system and the traditional conventional system and this competition is of course in favor of the customers. The author mentioned a case study of the main differences between a Riba-Free Islamic Banking and the conventional one. I think the Islamic choice is of more value since it is based in Return on Capital which is in compliance with Shariah standards. The starting point was in 1987 when the LARIBA bank (Shariah Compliant) was established as a depositary institution, although the bank...

...leveraged buyout and highlights some of its value-creating aspects. You are invited to combine the valuation principles and methods discussed in the course to evaluate a complex transaction from the perspectives of the various participants. Here are some guidelines for your valuation analysis. • Overview of the Valuation Process. Given the nature of the forecast data, it is useful for valuation purposes to treat the 1980-1984 period differently from the post-1984 period. In fact, the case writer hinted at the possibility of another reorganization at the end of 1984 in the note to Exhibit 14. Throughout, assume that time 0 is year 1979. • Make sure that you notice the changing debt ratios in 1980-1984. Which is the best valuation approach to deal with this? • Free Cash Flow. As usual, the following (unlevered) free-cash-flow formula should prove useful: EBIT = Operating Income − Corporate Expenses − Depreciation, UFCF = (1 − tc )EBIT + Depreciation − Change in NWC − Capital Expenditures. Note that there is a difference between UFCF defined above and what are referred to as “free cash flows” in Exhibit 13 (on line 14)? • Discount Rates. As we mentioned when discussing the Marriott case, the choice of discount rates is an important part of any valuation procedure. It is worthwhile to spend some time thinking carefully about these issues. – Congoleum’s equity beta is known (see Exhibit 9). Do you need to rely on comparable companies’ data to obtain Congoleum’s asset beta? ...

Reed ∗ , Brent A. Kaplan, Adam T. Brewer University of Kansas, United States a r t i c l e i n f o a b s t r a c t Organisms prefer to make their own choices. However, emerging research from behavioral decision making sciences has demonstrated that there are boundaries to the preference for choice. Specifically, many decision makers find an extensive array of choice options to be aversive, often leading to negative emotional states and poor behavioral outcomes. This study examined the degree to which human participants discounted hypothetical rewards that were (a) delayed, (b) probabilistic, and (c) chosen from a large array of options. The present results suggest that the “paradox of choice” effect may be explained within a discounting model for individual patterns of decision making. © 2012 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved. ...After researching various shared web hosts, I have narrowed my choices to three sites: Fatcow.com, Myhosting.com and Dreamhost.com. I am researching the basic plan for each web hosting site because I only have a small business. The first one, Fatcow.com, drew me in to its web hosting site because it has completely “gone green.” It powers its entire web hosting site with wind energy. Another interesting aspect to the web hosting site seems is the free shopping cart option, which allows my customers to purchase directly off the site (FatCow, 2010). As a second choice, I researched Dreamhost.com for two features with which the other web hosting sites could not compete. The two features include a lower price on the basic package at $2.95/month and a 97-day money-back guarantee. The other two web hosting sites only offer a 30-day money-back guarantee. Additionally, this web site is about seventy cents cheaper than the other two web hosting sites (DreamHost, 2010). My final selection, Myhosting.com, offers free spam filtering and web log analysis for its basic package. These two features are not offered on my other web hosting sites of choice. Spam filtering stops unwanted e-mails that would otherwise take up the company’s time and money through which to sort. This site also provides free web log analysis which is important when determining web site traffic; therefore, one can evaluate the progress of the business (SoftCom Inc., 2009). After looking at 2010 web hosting comparisons...

The report also intends to recommends ways to fuel further growth in future. The research draws attention to the fact that Australian pork’s product image was built by its success in Japan prior to the time period identified for analysis. The advertising campaign launched in 2001 was successful in launching the Airpork brand as brand of choice for young consumers who preferred shopping in supermarkets. This campaign was also successful in dispelling the belief that frozen meat is not fresh and is unhealthier compared to fresh meat.
