First attempt at an on-line course
In today's world everything is and anything is available online. From newspapers to TV and media to shopping, everything is a mouse click away. For the past several years there has been a boom in online learning and online education. Almost every college is now offering online classes for their students. There are several accredited colleges that were started only to offer online classes. On the road to success, students encountering online education reap many benefits that better prepare them for their future.
This is my first experience with on-line learning, and it has been a great experience so far. The teachers are very helpful and guide the students with text and videos on how to take an online class. Anytime a student requires any assistance they could just email the teacher and so far I've experienced that all my teacher’s reply within one day if not within hours. There are various benefits of having an online class. There is no need to drive to college every day and you can save money on gas and driving expenses. You can do your assignments on your own time and set your own schedule. It is easier for people who work to do this in their time after work or on their days off. Also, transferring credits is a breeze as I could take summer online classes and transfer them to my four year college while working at the same time. Chicago is a city well known for its cold weather. There are many instances in a year where snowstorms have, and can occur. In this semester specifically, it is still winter and therefore snow is inevitable and causes colleges to cancel classes. These classes then have to be made up and can cause the semester to run longer, which is inconvenient for students that work and have other tight schedules. Online scholars don’t have to worry about adverse weather effects. Even if their internet service runs low or crashes, they can still complete their studies at a different location or time.
Another advantage of being an online learner is the variety of classes offered at a lower cost. Being able to choose from different departments helps fulfill the academic credits needed, particularly general education classes. I have also seen my friends gain degrees like a master’s, MBA, or PhD, while not having to give up all their time into attending classes physically. They can make a living and gain an education, as can parents and older people too.
Cost is a major factor while having an education, for all students. Online learners don’t have to pay the full tuition for universities because online classes are cheaper than a traditional school. Computing the gas money and rising textbook prices as well, overall costs increase in a classroom-sitting environment. I am able to use the e-book more effectively since everything is already on the internet with the class. In an eco-friendly mindset, paper is not utilized because students download all necessary material provided by the professors.
Learning online is a different experience, for new and returning students. You have a teacher and classmates and have discussions just like any normal class, yet you get to do everything on your own time online. I have a very busy work schedule, and I have to travel at times as well. Having an online class is letting me finish my degree while I work and make a living. Having an online class is a blessing, I do not have to drive to college every day and in that time I can go to my workplace and when I come back from work or on my days off I can do my homework or study online. There has been times where I have taken my homework to my job and I study there when I’m not busy. The online Blackboard system that Triton College has provided is very helpful and easy to use. It has many tools to help with online education. I can submit assignments, email my teachers and classmates, check my grades and have online discussions with my peers all in this one portal. I am currently only taking one online course and my teacher has helped tremendously. She has replied to my emails in a very prompt manner and provided the students with informative videos and always keeps the students updated with the due dates and the assignments that need their attention.
Having an online class and smaller teacher to student ratios help create an individual focus to the student. Although not meeting in a classroom environment, mentally, the student feels satisfied that the professor could cater to specific assistance when needed. If there is a question, just an email away is an answer. In my experience, the work then is tailored to the student, as is the help. All of this prepares the student for a better future.

...The Surprising Foil to Online Education: Why Students Won’t Give Up Paper Textbooks Joanne McNeish, Mary Foster, Anthony Francescucci, Bettina West Purpose of the Study. Digital resources are an integral part of online education. Although advocates of digitized information believe that millennial students will embrace the paperless classroom, this is not proving to be the case. This research addresses gaps in our understanding of student resistance to giving up paper-based learning resources by examining attributes of the paper textbook that are perceived as necessary for knowledge transfer and that are not present in digital information modalities. Method/Design and Sample. Phase 1 used focus groups to identify the content of items that were incorporated into a quantitative instrument in phase 2. A sample of 386 undergraduate students taking marketing courses at a Canadian urban university completed the online survey. We then used Confirmatory Factor Analysis to test the factors linked to resistance to discontinuing paper textbooks. Results. Students’ resistance to giving up the paper textbook positively relates to the way in which the paper textbook facilitate learning and study processes, is permanent and under the students’ control during and after the course is finished. The fluid and dynamic nature of digital content compared to the more consistent and predictable nature of information on paper appears to be a barrier to the acquisition of knowledge for the purpose of...

...have a dynamic discussion in an online classroom environment? It is possible to have a dynamic discussion in an online classroom environment. Unfortunately, often times we make prejudgments or have pre-conceived notions of people by observing the way one looks, dress etc. Being online takes that element out of the equation and most times provides an equal playing field. • What do you think are the benefits of being in an online classroom? In today’s society, people have heavy responsibilities at work and home. Therefore, it is almost impossible to attend courses on campus due to scheduling issues. Distant learning provides a student that cannot attend campus classes, an opportunity and flexibility to further education to obtain certifications, diplomas and/or degrees. Distant learning allows a student to attend courses that are suitable to their needs. Students can do assignments at their convenience at any given time such as 2am or 2pm as long as the assignment is posted by the due date vice the regimental times for campus classes. Students can choose an online school that provides time-frames suitable for when a student anticipate having a degree in their declared major such as 5-week, 8-week or 9-week courses. Students can choose an online school that provides a learning curriculum that will assist them in being successful i.e. online lecturing in conjunction with textbook/e-book. • What are the drawbacks of being online, and how can we work around these...

...‘How little things could make a big change’ fRANCISCA gUAJARDO – Felipe Lecaros Part I What issue do you want to ilustrate in your story? The issue about our story Is based in our own experiences, about disloyal people that used to be in our life, but for different circumstances in our separated life, they are not part of it anymore. The main issue is about trust and how this can break really strong relationships, where based on the definition of ‘being willing to depend on the behavior of others and accept a certain vulnerability, assuming that others will not betray us’, so when that ‘other’ person betray you, you are in front of a disloyal person that you cannot rely on him or her. What concepts did you choose to ilustrate the issue you have chosen? The main concepts that we chose and the main reasons were: * Trust We used this concept because they were friends, and Nicolas didn’t have the money to started the business, so their friend trust in all the effort that he put in developed the business and they put more money or their pockets to pay the part of Nicolas. * Fear We used the term Fear, because George worked for more than 2 years to get that money and he felt fear to loss that amount of money, that he worked so hard to get it. * Intuition This concept it used because George had an intuition about that something was missing in the business plan, that was only because he didn’t know all the process that Nicolas follow, George always had...

Why Take Online Courses

...When deciding whether or not to take online courses, there are three important factors that must be considered; dedication, determination, and motivation. It can be difficult to balance life’s daily chores and because of this anyone considering online courses must be ready to make sacrifices. Life can always get in the way and you must be able to decide what is more important. Online courses require, at the minimum, a few hours each day without distraction. You must find something to keep yourself motivated; be it a promotion at work or simply having a diploma. Determination is a must in order to get the job done as it is very easy for things to fall apart. It can become extremely stressful balancing work, home, and school. It is also difficult to motivate yourself to “attend” school without a set schedule which is why a daily regimen must be establish and adhered to. Online courses aren’t necessarily easier than classroom courses; you get to wear pajamas but you lack direct contact with a professor or with someone else of experience. If you are not easily motivated or is a visual learner that requires direct contact with a professor, online courses may not be recommended. Online courses are recommended for dynamic learners who have the dedication, determination, and motivation to get the job done. There are many pros and cons for taking online courses. Here are just a few of the pros: not sitting in a classroom, not being late for class, reduced costs, and the ability to...
