...Judaism’s Rejection of the Original Sin In the bible, the story of Adam and Eve in the book of Genesis serves as scriptural evidence of humankind’s first transgression of God’s command resulting in the expulsion from paradise. Christians claim that humans are tainted from the fall and many scholars reinforce the idea of a recovery narrative, which depicts the bible as following a pattern of decline and recovery, thereby reinforcing the belief that something was once lost and must be recovered. After mankind’s fall from the state of perfection, Christians believed that Jesus was their savior and would consequently sacrifice himself in order to redeem man. Through the act of disobedience in Genesis emerged the concept of the original sin, which stipulates that humans are born sinners and that sins pass from parent to child as an inherited characteristic. Jewish believers, however, often criticize this notion and although they acknowledge that the human race came under the dominion of sin, which would affect their subsequent environment, Judaism, unlike Christianity denies that man is born into this world in a state of sin. Judaism affirms that the act of sinning is not part of the human condition but rather represents a conflict between two opposing inclinations (a good and an evil tendency) and that man has the ability to resist sin and can overcome the evil inclination by willing himself to become a righteous person. Therefore, Jewish people believe that man is inherently...

Original sin is still present, but God, being free and independent of us, freely chooses to save infants who are not capable of making a choice to commit their lives to Christ. Introduction Infant salvation is a complex issue, sometimes controversial and a topic of much debate within Christendom. The issue of infant salvation first arose with the institution of infant baptism, done so that infants who died would be baptized, and thus saved in case of death. Though that debate has subsided in recent years, it is not due to a...

...The original idea of the autonomous vehicle dates all the way back to 1939. This happened only fifty-four years after the first car was driven (“Benz Patent”). There was a big event happening in New York City, New York in 1939. At the New York World’s Fair, where the slogan of the fair was “The World of Tomorrow,” and General Motors (GM) pavilion created a ride that was called Futurama (“The Original Futurama”). Futurama was a ride that took its passengers through many small scale cities and towns that represented the future of the United States. While the ride was happening, speakers would be telling the audience facts about what they thought would be in the future. The audience was told about different features that were within the futuristic...

...The gutters on your home are hard working. They take all the water that hits your roof and redirects it down the side of the house and away from the foundation. Gutters can work for years without any problems. However, over time, they can start to develop problems that need attention. That is when you need to call for gutter repair. Is the Water Flowing in the Right Direction? Gutters are installed with a slight slope so that the water they catch gets directed into the downspouts. Over time, that slope can be changed, causing the water to go in the wrong direction. The upside of the slope may be pushed down due to loose fasteners. Damage caused by falling limbs can tilt the gutter in the wrong direction. Correcting the flow of the water is...

...The Original Keep We know that after the Norman Conquest (and the initial massacres) Britain settled down to an uneasy peace. The Viking raids became much less of a concern, everyday life was probably more settled than it had been in the 10th century. The Normans bought with them castle building technologies, and throughout the 11-14th centuries they build hundreds of castles throughout England, which in turn influenced Scottish Kings and barons to build their own fortifications. The foundations of Hogwarts Castle probably dates from this period. The important thing to remember is that Hogwarts Castle was never built to be a school because boarding schools, as we would understand them, did not exist at the point when it was built. It was likely that the original hill fort settlement of Hogwarts was already in an ideal defensive location and the local baron (probably also a magical person) started building a castle to protect the economically important town. The first phase of building would have resulted in nothing more than a square stone tower (called a keep) and strengthening of existing walls. However we know from history that castles, if they were strategically important, were constantly expanded and updated. Thus Hogwarts castle probably grew in size over the next few centuries adding a great hall, towers, ramparts etc. The round towers described in the book would not have been added until the 14th century, when it was discovered that round towers were better...

.... Assignment 1: Employment-At-Will Doctrine Dayene L. Candeia Severiano LEG500– Law, Ethics & Corp. Governance 04/28/2013 Dr. Charles Fleming As a manager and supervisor of an accounting department, discuss the following issues related to the employment-at-will doctrine and liability of an employer based on actions and responses to the employee’s behavior and actions. Jennifer, a recent graduate, has recently been hired by your accounting firm out of college. Upon being hired, she engages in a number of different behaviors that need your attention. 1. Describe what steps you would take to address the following scenario involving skills, competence, and abilities: * The employee seems to be unable to learn the computer applications that are basic to her job responsibilities, but, consistently “tells” her boss that she is “a good worker and a genius” and that he does not “appreciate her”. Even after a few months of training and support, she is unable to use the computer tools to be productive and efficient in completing the required tasks. The employee was hired for the specific position which requires the use of the computer applications to complete the required tasks. However, there is obviously a mismatch between her skills and the required work for that position. The computer applications are basic to her job which means that if she really was “a good worker and a genius” she would be able to learn quickly and apply that knowledge and those...

...Original Creation of the Earth (The Big Bang vs. Six-Day Creation) TANITKA C. SMITH PHSC210_A24_201240 Debora Ladner December 3, 2012 INTRODUCTION The Big-Bang Theory, accepted widely by atheists and many scientists, simply says this: between 10 and 20 billion years ago a “bang” or explosion occurred from a single point in nothingness and with the scattering of googles of atoms, the earth came into being. An eruption of sorts occurred, haphazardly distributing the smallest particles of matter that miraculously adjoined themselves to create living, breathing organisms and every other object on the earth. Every word of the Bible is true. Every day, creation scientists are finding more and more evidence to support the six days of creation. There is nothing wrong with science, but in the end it is the fallible word of man. YOUNG EARTH At its simplest, evolution is a hypothesis which claims that all life has descended with modification from a primitive single celled organism in the remote past. The development has been one of increasing complexity. Originally, the first cell evolved from a preexisting organic “soup” in a primeval ocean, which in turn developed from chance conglomerations of inorganic chemicals. Ultimately, these chemicals themselves were produced by the “Big Bang” origin of the actual universe. Against overwhelming evidence it is said that the Big Bang happened billions of years ago, and gives argument that the earth and the universe are...

...#2) Rawls’ original position and the veil of ignorance play a part with each other and focus on how a state will ultimately end up if people decide to form a social contract. Considering there are differences between people, such as social status, education, endurance, sex, race, etc…, Rawls says to imagine a veil of ignorance so decisions are not influenced from a place of self-interest. When individual persons part of a society, put a veil of ignorance each individual will disregard and eliminate bias notions amongst each other in that society including their own self. “Let us assume, to fix ideas, that society is a more or less self-sufficient association of persons who in their relations to one another recognize certain rules of conduct as binding and who for the most part act in accordance with them.” (Nozick, XB pg. 94-95 Para. 5) Rawls is assuming here that a society put aside their differences and acts accordingly by way of tacit acknowledgement concerning rules of conduct that connect them to each other. The veil of ignorance is a significant part of Rawls’ original position. This gives Rawls’ concept of original position because there are no biases or judgmental decisions made and everyone in that society seeks the benefit of each other. Original position is then assumed since everyone in the supposed society is equal and has no bias opinions due to the veil of ignorance. Even though the original position is assumed and “…these rules specify a system of cooperation...

...“They do not know how the various alternatives will affect their particular case and they are obliged to evaluate principles solely on the basis of general consideration.”(Rawls 118) The veil is a completely hypothetical concept that Rawls uses to explain what justice means. I do agree that under this veil, the laws agreed upon would allow each person the same advantages or disadvantages. However, this veil of ignorance cannot be applied to reality because no such situation has ever existed. Each person has characteristics that cannot be taken away, so each person has a unique identity. No matter how fair a group of individuals tries to be, they will each work to benefit themselves. This holds true even under the veil of ignorance. The ‘original position’ defined by Rawls is the only time in which truly just laws could be agreed upon, but it still holds true that everyone will act selfishly. If each person does not know anything about their identity, then they would agree to justice only to avoid being at a disadvantage. Each person would want to create laws that...

...CHANGE By: Mae I was born in this world with the original sin of my first parents – Adam and Eve. So, I was baptized to erase my original sin and I was welcomed into the Christian World. I was raised by my parents with the reminder that I should love God and be thankful for him. They taught me to obey and respect other people. They taught me to be a good person. As I was growing older, I began to commit sins like disobeying my parents, saying and doing bad things to other people. I also started not to attend Sunday Mass and at that point I’m beginning to feel awful as a person. I feel bad for the things I’ve done. Thus, I remembered what my teacher said when I was in elementary, “Confess and repent.” I admit that I’m going in the wrong direction and I’m willing to face my sins and the consequences for it. So as one of the message of John the Baptist, I’m ready for repentance. I want to go back to God who I am ultimately belong. I will change to be a better person and I will avoid doing the things that I’ve done before. I will obey my parents again. I will say sorry to the people I’ve hurt. And lastly, I want to attend Sunday Mass and “isabuhay” the teachings of the Church. I want to confess everything I’ve done and I want to ask for forgiveness. I am sincere that I want to go back to God. I want to rebuild my relationship to him. Thus, I’m willing to be generous to other people especially to the poor to make them feel that they are special in their own ways. I want my...

...Short Essay #1 Short Essay on Hamartiology Harmartiology is the study of sin. Many people have confusion on the reason why it existent’s when God created the world. Recently, a neighbor questions the very thing. He’s having trouble with his faith and doesn’t understand why natural catastrophes, disease’s and other things that plagued humans. Before this question can be answered it’s important to know the truth of evil in a Biblical view. The problem with evil is the perception of what it is. In today’s society evil acts are not considered evil; most are justified for the purpose. Evil is an act of that is not “not in the keeping with the nature or will of God.”[1] If a person decides to commit adultery repeatedly, the excuse could be because he/she does not feel loved; therefore the act is justified and excusable. Conversely, that is not the case. The act is a sin, period. Humans are called to live according to Gods laws and when people commit sin it’s important to repent and turn from sin, which is seen in 2 Chronicles 7:14, “if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land”. In today’s society people do not look at sin as evil acts that hurt people, when people are hurt then the question becomes “If there was a God, why is their pain; a good God wouldn’t hurt the ones He loves.” There are two types of evil, moral...
