...American History: Our Hope for the Future: Draft Four Our past defines our present and our present shapes our future. When I think of my country, I not only picture a land presently full of freedom and immense beauty but I also remember the often difficult history which brought us here. This history has set the stage for our lives. As I studied history this past year, I realized that it is not just a bunch of dates, places, and the names of dead people. It is the record of people who lived those times and events, shaping their futures to give us our present. Our children’s present begins with the future that you and I are building. The history I studied changed me and it can change you. It can reshape the world. Because of history, I now...

...wan't their life to be or how they are planning to make their life for the future. As a young girl who appreciate GOD and life I've planned my life for the future at age twelve. Where I'm going to live, where I 'm going to go, what I'm going to do, who I 'm going to approach in class, who I 'll avoid as friends, who I think will always appreciate me for who I am etc. Loving me for me as I show a hundred percent more of compassion, compendious, compatible love, trust, support and understanding as to me being the perfect friend shows you care a-lot more. Most time in my life, damaging, not giving happiness, destroying not building confidence. The life destroyer, darkens my future temptation of Satan's device, leaving trail of bribes of my human vice. Joy without suffering, life worth living are my goals as I be strong fighting those who try to irritate me and tell me that life and planning for the future is beyond my control. But I negligence believe that if you work hard on whatever it is you really want or think is right for you in life will come true. Achieving your life goals and truly believing in yourself that you can be or do whatever makes you be you knowing that no one is perfect yet guilty in the court of GOD, but if being axiom in ourselves averaging Right from Wrong in our daily life only a fool would say "Planning for the future is a waste of time; Too much of our future is beyond our control." Tomorrow is promised to no one but making your dream come true living...

...American History: “Our Hope for the Future.” Harry S. Truman said with a great heart, “America was not built on fear. America was built on courage, on imagination, and the determination to do the job at hand.” His words rang true then and now. We can’t be afraid of what’s going to happen in the future, because we’d then be cutting out everything else and what would be an amazing future for all of America. Letting our imagination and creativity have a part in our lives is one step to a greater future. They allow us to create wonderful things that fill this world with happiness and prosperity. Like imagination, courage and determination have big parts in this land’s creation. We were determined to have our own lives, so we broke away from Britain; We wanted to explore our new found land, so we set aside our fear of the unknown and saw all the beautiful things our land offered. Many have protected this land from others and most sadly died because of it, but they offered courage and determination to protect us and this land. We can’t be afraid of the future, or we’ll miss it. We have to be everything we can to see it through with greatness. My hope for America is being the best we can, putting all we are on the table, and having no fear of the future....

...American History: Our Hope for the Future Today, history, as a body of knowledge, encircles not only the events of the past but also the consequences that affect our future. History shapes our lives today. It largely affects the way we think, speak, and interact with each other is all affected by history. The impact of history on society is so significant, it practically molds our future. Look around, we have running water, telephone, electricity, vehicles, and so much more inventions that make life simpler. However, if someone in the past had not thought of these inventions then our present would be completely different. History has a such an enormous impact on society because the interaction between the society and its past is an unending one. History is not simply about facts and dates, instead look at it as if it was a map. It helps provide information that dictates where we came from and where we are going. Decisions and events in history have directed events in the present. Visualize a world without the modern medicine we have today. It’s hard to believe that a few centuries ago diseases were viewed to be caused by evil spirits or it was punishment for sinners. In the 19th century, Louis Pasteur’s work led to the acceptance of the germ theory, this allowed for cures to developed to destroy many...

...attention. “Start your new life today!” You have seen it many times before but for some reason it hits you differently tonight, “begin classes now…” you stand frozen by the words for a moment, considering the possibilities before it hits you, “It could never happen.” You think to yourself. “We both work so much and we can barely pay the bills as it is; and what about the kids? We can’t afford daycare and definitely not if I cut my hours to go to school.” All the sudden you feel stuck, you look at your children asleep on the couch, you want better for them, better for yourself, but how? Where do you start? This is a picture painted in the hues of poverty, lack of education and despair; a picture painted all too often on the canvas that is our great country. Americans stuck in the grind, not a clue as to how...

But some studies have found out that its history can be further traced back as early as the European Enlightenment when German Kameralists began to be concerned about handing down “undiminished” dynasties to future generations. In the 1987 Brundtland Report dubbed as Our Common Future, Sustainable Development is defined as development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. For the business enterprise, sustainable development means adopting business strategies and activities that meet the needs of the enterprise and its stakeholders today while protecting, sustaining and enhancing the human and natural resources that will be needed in the future. Just like a system, the world we live in connects us in space and time. America’s decisions a long time ago, for instance, will not just affect its present and future generations but also even people outside of its continent. Hence, most definitions of sustainable development emphasize the need to recognize how our decisions and actions affect the global environment, economy and society- today and the years to come. How Sustainable Development applies to Operations Management? Sustainable Development has important implications to Operations Management (OM) primarily because business operations largely depend on human and natural resources...

...Name: C.T.B. Assignment: “Our Stolen Future” Date: 12/03/2012 The Book “Our Stolen Future” is considered to be a sequel of “Silent Spring“, a Rachel’s Carson classic work, a clarion call to protect the American public from manmade synthetic pesticides that cause genetic mutations and cancer. Carson not only described how persistent chemicals were contaminating the natural world, she documented how those chemicals where accumulated into our bodies. Since then, studies of human breast milk and body fat have confirmed the extent of our exposure. Human beings in such remote locations as Canada’s far northern Baffin Island now carry traces of persistent chemicals in their bodies, including notorious compounds as PCBs, DDT and dioxin. Even worse, in the womb and through breast milk, mothers pass this chemical legacy on to the next generation. “Our Stolen Future”, the scientific discovery of Theo Colborn, Dianne Dumanoski and John Peterson Myers, takes up where Carson left off and reviews a large and growing body of scientific evidence, linking synthetic chemicals to aberrant sexual development and behavioral and reproductive problems, such as low sperm counts, infertility, genital deformities, hormonally triggered human cancers, like those of breast and prostate gland, neurological disorders in children such as hyperactivity and deficits in attention. The quality of men's sperm declined steadily in the early years of the 21st century until hardly anyone could reproduce in...

...Students are Our Future Congratulations to the Senior Class of Taft High School, 2014. I would like to thank you for giving me this opportunity to come and be your guest speaker. The speech that I am going to give today will influence your life in many ways. You have the choice of taking the following statements for granted or listening and follow these simple steps that I am going to give to you today. There are many ways students entering Pierce College will succeed in their academic performances and many ways to fail as well. I am going to discuss with you the process of failing at Pierce College and not being able to get to the place you are all expecting. A bad student behavior consists of poor habits, traits, characteristics, and academic performance. There can be many reasons to failing in college. One reason is that college is simply a big change from high school. Students who were once good students may find their grades slipping in college. There are many reasons why some students don’t thrive at a university and begin failing their courses and in my opinion these are the major reasons why they fail. Most of students do have a lower expectation of the workload that will eventually stress them out. I’m going to give you direction and guide to the way not to behave before class, during class and after class. Make sure you do not do any of the followings and prepare yourself for a good start in Pierce College. Before coming to class, students tend to not review their...

...Losing Our Future: How Minority Youth are Being Left Behind by the Graduation Rate Crisis By Gary Orfield , Daniel Losen, Johanna Wald and Christopher B. Swanson Every year, across the country, a dangerously high percentage of students—disproportionately poor and minority—disappear from the educational pipeline before graduating from high school. Nationally, only about 68 percent of all students who enter 9th grade will graduate “on time” with regular diplomas in 12th grade. While the graduation rate for white students is 75 percent, only approximately half of Black, Hispanic , and Native American students earn regular diplomas alongside their classmates. Graduation rates are even lower for minority males. Yet, because of misleading and inaccurate reporting of dropout and graduation rates, the public remains largely unaware of this educational and civil rights crisis. Recently, Congress took a first step in recognizing the severity of the dropout problem by including graduation rate accountability provisions in the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB), enacted in 2002. Unfortunately, the Department of Education has issued regulations that allow schools, districts, and states to all but eliminate graduation rate accountability for minority subgroups. By doing so, Department officials have rendered these accountability measures virtually meaningless.. The implications for individuals, communities, and the economic vitality of this country are far-reaching and devastating...

...Our Children’s Future is in Our Hands A school is where kids learn the value of the environment and how to grow in it. If we remove our children's connection with the earth that sustains them, they will be much lesser people. We must dispose of this idea indefinitely. The African proverb says, “It takes a village to raise a child.” In our case, it takes a village square to make a village. It would be a wasted opportunity to not take advantage of Michelle Obama’s great speech which emphasizes on children. It was a theme that was used by a number of other speakers at the convention she attended. This was further amplified by Tanya Plibersek during her visit to our schools. Watch Michelle Obama's wonderful speech here. Education is the fundamental...

...In the article “Our Future Selves,” Eric Shmidt and Jared Cohen discuss how technology can become more advance and help this economy. When discussing technology becoming more advance; the gaining of productivity, health, education, and quality of life are recognized. According to Authur C. Clarke, “Any sufficiently advance in technology is indistinguishable from magic.” Whereas individuals can respond differently to Shmidt and Cohen’s opinion on advanced technology, an advance in technology will help the economy given that it can do many unbelievable tasks us as individuals cannot do alone. In addition, the term “technology” has changed notably over the last 200 years. The term rose to prominence in the 20th century in connection with the Second...

...Our Future with Science and Technology In Aldous Huxley's Brave New World, Huxley describes a chilling vision of a totalitarian society ruled by both manipulation and conditioning of its' citizens. It ways eighty one years ago that Huxley made this fictional world into a piece of literature that still resonates with his readers today. Social engineering and technology of modern society were either at its' infancy or not even created yet when Huxley wrote his book. The maturity of these ideologies and technologies that makes Brave New World touch close to home. Is it possible to bring a world of chaos to order or is it just a proclivity of the human condition? In Utopia by Sir Thomas More, the city Amaurot is the city of Hythloday's research of Utopian society. His mention of the lack of privacy among its' citizens can be very relevant to today. While we can still lock our doors and windows, close our curtains and blinds, the amount of privacy one has has been increasingly diminishing. With the advent of federal approbation of various ways of the government to invade on a person's right to privacy is a slow progression to the possibility of losing our privacy completely. Others argue that discretion of these actions should not be a worry of the common citizen. They argue that if you have done nothing wrong, you have nothing to hide. It is a way of justification of a deplorable act on our everyday privacy. And the debate will only continue to escalate as the rapid evolution...

...Bill and Melinda Gates are looking to make substantial changes to improve the lives of millions in both rich and poor countries. As discussed in “Our Big Bet For the Future,” they focus mainly on poorer regions of the world, primarily Africa. Although the goals listed are difficult, expensive, and time consuming, they are effective and doable. Bill and Melinda Gates demonstrate passion for achieving these noble goals which will be beneficial to all those prospering from them. One goal addressed by Bill and Melinda Gates is cutting the number of children who die before the age of five in half. Previously, one in ten children in the world died before the age of five. Now, that number has decreased to only one in 20. The goal of the Gates is to have this number decrease substantially yet again, to only one on forty. Gates says that “Until recently the world was split in two… Here vaccination coverage was spotty at best, children tended to be malnourished and standard child illnesses were untreated about 10% of these children died before they turned five”(Bill and Melinda Gates) . The Gates support their plan...

...TV Violence and the Future of Our Children In recent years, the news has seemed to mimic violence that appears in television and in movies. Several incidents support the majority of people's assumption that TV violence effects a child's behavior in many ways. A child's judgment is hurt badly by viewing TV violence, which can have some serious long-term effects. First of all, when children see characters on TV or in movies triumph by using physical force, they begin to see violence as an acceptable way of resolving conflicts. As a result, children use physical or verbal abuse toward others on the playground or at school. Some parents often worry that their children will not fit in with their friends if they do not watch popular children's television programs. The same 20-year research tell us that children who watch more violent television are actually rated more poorly by their peers. Also, according to Dr. Jeanne Beckman, children who spend more time watching violent TV programming are rated more poorly by their teachers, their peers, have few problem-solving skills, and are more likely to get into trouble with the law as teenagers and young adults. Take for instance the young boy who opened fire at his school in Pearl, Mississippi. The movie the Basketball Diaries had the most effect on this boy. Children who view too much media violence may have more difficulty getting along with others. If children do not see acts of kindness between other children and adults, they...
