People Don't Know

“People don't know what they want, they just want what they know,” some people say. It sounds biased, and even ignorant; given the right prodding, there's consumers that are willing to try something new, as they are tired of the same old products. It is true though, that most consumers prefer what they know to something new. I myself am guilty of this; every time I go out to buy my video games, music, and even books I find myself attracted to the series and artists I have experience with, rather than the unknown. Sadly, I think this is because the market is so condensed, there is a lack of quality in the final products. Songs like Rebecca Black's Friday, movies like the Twilight Saga, books like E.L. James' Fifty Shades series, and games like the infamous Duke Nukem Forever can close the minds of even the most open-minded consumers, forcing them to remain enslaved to products they are already familiar with.
I'm going to use myself as an example, to prove why this is sadly true. I've been playing video games since I'm four. I've owned no less than six consoles; the Sega Genesis, the Nintendo 64, Nintendo Gamecube, an original Xbox, a Playstation 2, and an Xbox 360, along with several handheld consoles, as well as my computer. The amount of games I used to play and buy on each console is incredibly different: on my Genesis, I owned at least 24; my N64 and Gamecube both had 20-25 games, and my Xbox and Playstation 2 both had five and six games (admittedly though, I bought them late into their life cycle). My most recent console has been the Xbox 360, which, despite its many technical flaws and issues, I've come to regard as my favorite. The game selection has been top notch, the online multiplayer is fun and addictive, and the controller is the most comfortable of any I've used before. Given all this, it should be logical that the xbox should not

...wrists and temples. People said that he had consumption and wasn't long for this world. I loved, but sometimes despised him. His father, Mr Sawyer, was a strange man. Nobody could make out what he was doing in our part of the world at all. He was not a planter or a doctor or a lawyer or a banker. He didn't keep a store. He wasn't a schoolmaster or a government official. He wasn't — that was the point — a gentleman. We had several resident romantics who had fallen in love with the moon on the Caribees — they were all gentlemen and quite unlike Mr Sawyer who hadn't an 'h' in his composition. Besides, he detested the moon and everything else about the Caribbean and he didn't mind telling you so. He was agent for a small steamship line which in those days linked up Venezuela and Trinidad with the smaller islands, but he couldn't make much out of that. He must have a private income, people decided, but they never decided why he had chosen to settle in a place he didn't like and to marry a coloured woman. Though a decent, respectable, nicely educated coloured woman, mind you. Mrs Sawyer must have been very pretty once but, what with one thing and another, that was in days gone by. When Mr Sawyer was drunk — this often happened — he used to be very rude to her. She never answered him. 'Look at the nigger showing off,' he would say; and she would smile as if she knew she ought to see the joke but couldn't. 'You damned, long-eyed, gloomy half-caste, you don't smell right,' he would...

Fahrenheit 451 Deficit Analysis

...The three major deficits of the people from Fahrenheit 451 are lack of communication, lack of education, and lack of common sense. There are many possible ways to solve this problem. The way to come up with a solution is to start of easy with everyone. To begin, everyone in the city are able to try upon their skills and knowledge. Then, based on how much they know already, they will be given many tasks for themselves. For example, if someone has never read anything in their life they will be given help for them to begin. Having everyone work at their own pace is more effective than giving people sets of things to do. They will be able to learn and understand more than going at an unsteady pace. Have you ever wonder what is the most important...

Friendship

...I just hate it that today is one of those days when I don’t have nothing to do, so the only thing left in the table is read, and since I can’t do that the other only thing I can do is write. Today I felt like writing about friendship, the real friendship, so here goes nothing: I never ever got the true meaning of friendship, until I started losing it in some way. It isn’t that I lost it completely; it’s just that my friends and I have grown apart and that kind of sucks. But before that I always wondered what friendship really is and what it really means. And now being in a different school and not with the same friends and growing apart with my friends, I asked myself that question again and I think that maybe I have found the real answer. Being in a new place with new people, new faces it is hard to fit in. And this especially when the others know each other already. So you have to start everything from the beginning , you start to tell everyone your story, your favorite things and the reasons why you like them, but they still don’t get it, they still don’t get the reason why you are who you are, and they want to change you. And then is when you start to change, because you think you aren’t good enough and that maybe that is the reason why you don’t fit in. And you change everything from yourself, and by doing this changes you start to lose your real friends, you start to lose a little bit of yourself every day, you are not the same old you, the one with big strange dreams...

How Does Fahrenheit 451 Shaped Our World

...In Montag's world children beat each other up in an act of violence, while having no sense of connection towards each other. Clarisse who is Montag’s neighbor tells him her perspective about children and people, “Do you notice how people hurt each other nowadays...I’m afraid of children my own age. They kill each other” (27). One of Mildred's friend Mrs.Phelps says the following regarding her children,“I put up with them when they come home three days a month...You heave them into the ‘parlor’ and turn the switch” (93). These examples show how people don't feel loved by their loved ones especially children and use violence as an effect of the missing affection they don't have. This supports my claim because nowadays youth are given electronics manu things to distracts themselves, their parents don't show the love they need and they go out and do crazy things to get the pain and anger out. Bradbury is warning us that violence is most often the cause of no human relationship between parents and kids which parents don't show they care for their kids. Because people don't feel loved they're not happy and don't know where to...

Most people do not even have to shop at other stores because Wal-Mart has everything. It’s also convenient because it is right around the corner from a lot of customers houses; they don’t have to travel far to find a Wal-Mart store so they save gas. People already know that Wal-Mart has the lowest prices so they don’t have to search for stores with low prices. The items sold are good quality as well as cheap. What more could someone ask for. ...to give up on people, not because you don’t care, because they don’t. I don’t know how to be someone that you would miss. Sometimes you got to fall before you fly. They laugh at me because I’m different. I laugh at them because they’re all the same. You can’t judge my choices without knowing my reasons. If it doesn’t challenge you, it won’t change you. We don’t see things as they are. We see things as we are. Before you judge me, make sure you’re prefect. If you can’t hold me when I am crying, then you don’t deserve to hold me when I am happy. Sometimes crying is the only way to feel better. There are better things ahead than any we leave behind. Forever is a long time. But I wouldn’t mind spending it by your side. Whatever you do, good or bad, people will always have something negative to say. Everyone goes through emotional problems, some people are just better at hiding it than others. If you have crazy friend, you have everything. You showed me what love feels like. I keep myself busy with things to do, but every time I pause, I still think of you. My attitude is based on how you treat me. People say that you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone. Truth is, you knew what you had, but you just thought you’d never lose it. The hardest thing to see is what is in front of your eyes. Friendship means understanding, not agreement. It means forgiveness, not forgetting. I never really stopped liking you; I only gave up because you did. Don’t judge a situation...

Sororities Research Paper

...treated unfairly? I don’t think so. I know there’s a few stereotypes for certain sororities but those are not made by people that really know anything about them. I know for a fact, some people think that sorority girls are easy to get with, sleep with whatever, they’re all bitchy, all they care about is themselves, and they only hang out with their sisters. Those are some of the stereotypes that we have but none of them are true, I’ve been around them for multiple years and I know plenty of them and enough of them to know that those aren’t true and it’s not fair for them to have people think about them like that. Confidence

...1. They take a stand not because they think they are always right, but because they are not afraid to be wrong. Cocky and conceited people tend to take a position and then proclaim, bluster, and totally disregard differing opinions or points of view. They know they're right--and they want (actually, they need) you to know it, too. Their behavior isn't a sign of confidence, though; it's the hallmark of an intellectual bully. Truly confident people don't mind being proven wrong. They feel finding out what is right is a lot more important than being right. And when they're wrong, they're secure enough to back down graciously. Truly confident people often admit they are wrong or don't have all the answers; intellectual bullies never do. 2. They listen 10 times more than they speak. Bragging is a mask for insecurity. Truly confident people are quiet and unassuming. They already know what they think; they want to know what you think. So they ask open-ended questions that give other people the freedom to be thoughtful and introspective: They ask what you do, how you do it, what you like about it, what you learned from it, and what they should do if they find themselves in a similar situation. Truly confident people realize they know a lot, but they wish they knew more, and they know the only way to learn more is to listen more. 3. They duck the spotlight so it shines on others. Perhaps it's true they did the bulk of the work. Perhaps they really did overcome the major obstacles...

Communication Change Challenge

...can’t initiate communication with people I first meet. B. I can’t use specific language to avoid my audience’s misinterpretation. C. I can’t deliver my messages to my audiences without being anxious. D. I can’t make eye contacts during communications E. I can’t defend myself when people attack me verbally Descriptions and illustrations: A) I can’t initiate communication with people I first meet. I feel that it is rude to just start talking to people I’m not familiar with. This is because I’m not sure if people are going to respond to me in a positive way. One Saturday morning, I was just walking and asked a person what time it was, and he stared at me and walked away. I was not sure why he did so but this reinforced my feeling of not initiating communication with strangers. B) I can’t use specific language to avoid my audience’s misinterpretation. I am a non-native speaker. It seems that what I say doesn’t come across the native speakers due to the fact that my native language affects the way I pronounce English words. This always makes confusion to my listeners. One Sunday morning, I went to buy some groceries and I couldn’t find some of the items I was looking for. I asked a store attendant and he kept asking me what I was saying. He also looked puzzled and I spent a lot of time repeating and clarifying. C) I can’t deliver my messages to my audiences without being anxious. I normally don’t like presenting my ideas in front of...
