...Rich Zigarski Comp. 102/8 9/6/13 In my life music has always played an important role because my parents always had some type of music on. Since I was the middle child, I would get stuck listening to my sister’s music in the car and around the house. I never really had an interest in her Top 40 pop hits, and leaned towards more of what my father listened to. My dad would always listen to older, rock type music. Bands like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Dr. Hook, and even Tom Jones. As I grew older and started elementary school my taste for music started to change. I started basing my friends off of who liked older rock music. I would sit in the play yard at recess and we would listen to our Walkman’s and talk about how we wish we could play music the way our favorite bands was able to play. As I started to play sports in middle school, my taste for music begin to turn.During sports, I met a lot of people with different tastes in music. I stayed away from people who liked country, pop, or dance music. I started making connections with friends who listened to rock, hip hop, and rap. Most of these people were my friends throughout high school and some are even today. In college, music has played a huge role in my life. I always have music around me no matter what I am doing. When I wake up, my alarm starts playing music. I go to class to come back and start doing homework while listening to music. When I go to the football stadium to work, they players are always listening to...

...Nicole Modak Music 100 September 11, 2012 Music Genealogy As a child I remember listening to the typical children’s music. Barney was my favorite television show, so I can still remember the songs that Barney used to sing such as The Clean Up Song. My parents also exposed me to the types of music they enjoyed listening to. My mother loves artists such as Babyface and Toni Braxton. It was our tradition to clean the house while playing music. We would sing and dance to my mom’s favorite songs for hours. My mother also loves music by Josh Groban. She always played his music in the car, which instantly made me sleepy. My father’s favorite artist is Bruce Springsteen and because my father exposed me to his music at such a young age I grew to love the music as well. My dad also introduced me to classic hits by the Jackson 5. As a child I took chorus in elementary school where we sang and learned about music. I played the flute during the fourth and fifth grades. I loved the music in the Broadway musicals I have attended with my family. I have seen The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast. The music in both plays was fantastic. My classmates influenced my musical taste because during free time in class teachers would play music. My peers and I would all decide which songs the teacher would play. This encouraged me to listen to the types of music that my classmates listened to even if it was different then the songs I typically liked. I grew up living 30 minutes from New York City...

...Holidays Holidays are celebrated differently by everyone. In fact, some people do not even celebrate the holidays that I do. One thing that is common for everyone is that holidays are usually surrounded by family and friends. My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving. I love Thanksgiving for lots of reasons. I look forward to Thanksgiving all year long. I can remember everything about thanksgiving from the great food and the great memories. Thanksgiving is important to my family because we get together and eat. We see, smell and taste good food. When my family gets together we eat and gossip and talk. I like to hear the laughter that comes from everybody having a good time. Thanksgiving is significant in my life because I get to see all of my family. I only get to see all my family once or twice a year. This is a time we get together and find what they have been up to. We tell stories or play game and watch football on tv. We joke around and hang out and eat. Our Thanksgiving day starts off with everybody in the kitchen cooking and talking. I usually am cleaning while they all cook in the kitchen. We set a nice table with our good dishes and silverware. We get to eat a big ham, a delicious turkey, homemade macaroni and many other dishes. One of my favorite food is yams. I love the sweet smell of yams. Yams have a beautiful layer of golden brown marshmellows on top. I can eat a whole pan of them. Most people like Christmas the best, but I like Thanksgiving because...

...Chapter 5 Socially Responsible Business – Doing the Right Thing By Lizabeth England Businesses have an ethical responsibility to customers who buy goods and services from them. Socially responsible business means that companies do the right thing for their customers. Companies consider profit, consumer satisfaction, and societal well being as equally important in the way business is conducted. Governments often enact laws that force businesses to function ethically. Consumers also can force businesses to act ethically regarding their purchases. For example, in the United States today, consumers and consumer activists boycott over 800 products. This chapter is on socially responsible business. Teachers and students want to know about ways in which businesses are held accountable to customers for goods and services that they sell. According to consumer rights laws, people who buy goods and services have four rights: the right to be safe, the right to be informed, the right to choose, and the right to be heard. This chapter will provide teachers and students with opportunities to learn more about socially responsible business and about doing the right thing. In the United States, businesses are often judged by their socially responsible behaviors. Most people agree that these include the following specific elements: equal employment opportunity for all citizens regardless of their race, religion or sex; respect for employees’ diversity, safety, and health in the workplace;...

...In the early 2000’s, the genre of pop punk/emo pop was widely popular with the teen generation. Earlier bands, such as Green Day, Blink 182, and Fall Out Boy all set the stage for Panic! At the Disco to release their first album, A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out on September 27, 2005. The lyrics on the album were composed by the band’s lead guitarist, Ryan Ross. Other main members of the band include lead singer, Brendon Urie, and drummer, Spencer Smith. Even though Panic! At the Disco has continued to release several albums, none of them have ever come close to having the same effect their first album had on the music community. This particular album has a different but catchy sound to it, story-like lyrics, and unique vocalization. To begin,...
