INTRODUCTION

Health insurance is fast emerging as an important mechanism to finance health care needs of the people. Healthcare Insurance Market in India is unique and has a strong growth potential than the other insurance markets. Life insurance includes all risks related to the lives of human beings. IRDA (Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority) allowed to the customer to change their insurance company in case of dissatisfaction with company. Health insurance portability gives the flexibility to the customer and increase the fair competition among companies. The concept of Portability is new in India so the awareness and perception towards portability of customers depends on several factors. The study covers all the fundamental aspects of awareness and customer preference towards healthcare insurance portability in India.
The objective of this study is therefore to examine some of the influences such as consumer awareness and enthusiasm, the role of social influences like advertising, services provided by company, groups and family in affecting consumer’s perception and evaluations of health insurance.
The need for an insurance system that works on the basic principle of pooling of risks of unexpected costs of persons falling ill and needing hospitalization by charging premium from a wider population base of the same community. In the present scenario the annual expenditure on health in India amounts to about $7.00 in rural areas and $10.00 in urban areas per person, majority of care being provided by the private sector.
With improved literacy, modest rise in incomes, and rapid spread of print and electronic media, there is greater awareness and increasing demand for better health services. Participants: We interviewed 48 Hispanics without breast cancer but who had a family member with breast cancer; participants lived in San Antonio and the surrounding area. Main Outcome: The outcomes were interest in breast cancer genetic testing, awareness about genetic testing, perceived risk of carrying a breast cancer susceptibility gene, and the perceived benefits and risks associated with a genetic test. Measures: Items previously used in research regarding interest and perceived genetic risk and a previously validated benefits and riskslimitations scale for genetic testing commonly used by other researchers were used to measure the outcomes. Results: Awareness of genetic testing for breast cancer susceptibility was very low, yet most (82%) participants were interested in a genetic test for breast cancer susceptibility. Participants were more likely to identify with the benefits than the potential risks of genetic testing. The most highly endorsed benefits were to know to take better care of one’s self and to undergo more frequent screening.
