Introduction
Performance appraisals, the assessment of a worker’s work performance over the earlier period by one’s administrator, are a customary practice in essentially every organization (Benson & Brown2005). Performance appraisals help in assisting the administrators to effectively manage the talent within the organization (Benson, Lawler & McDermott 2012). Performance appraisals allow the administrator to evaluate how well the employee is coping with their work, what their abilities and understanding are and what their obligation and performance goals are moving forward (Lacho, Stearns & Whelan 1991). This paper will report and critically analyze the performance and appraisal methods of a school of which the author is familiar with. This …show more content…
But due to the fact that the actual learning is impacted by many factors outside of the teacher’s control, the school has thus deemed it fairer to the teacher to now take into consideration other vital contributions by the teacher that have made improved pupil learning possible. The first criteria by which the teachers are assessed on is the quality of instruction. The teacher will now be assessed by the extent to which they are delivering high-quality instruction relating to the facilitation of the pupils’ learning and development, this will be evident in the teacher’s commitment to quality instruction as well as the quality of interaction with the pupils. The second criteria by which the educators will be assessed is the impact on the pupils’ learning. This is judged by the impact that the teacher has on the pupils learning and development, this can now be viewed through the pupils’ attainment of the learning outcomes, the quality of work, the pupils’ motivation for learning and other forms of …show more content…
This information includes the test results of all of the pupil’s; lesson plans that have been submitted by the teacher and an evaluation form that has been completed by the administrator. The criteria of the evaluation form are what has previously been mentioned above. The administrator will make the teacher aware of a time when a formal observing of one of the teacher’s lessons will occur, a date will also be set where the results of the appraisal will be discussed. The teacher will now be presented with a self-assessment form where they will need to take a critical view and reflect on their practice. The teacher will need to evaluate their own performance over the past quarter and will be asked to identify their strengths, weaknesses and potential opportunities that have noticed. The administrator will now conduct a formal observation, during the observation the administrator shall take notes regarding the teacher’s performance in accordance with the applicable standards on the rubric for the criteria as mentioned above. The administrator will now conduct a formal interview with the teacher to discuss the results of the appraisal. The teacher will begin by sharing their own evaluation of themselves, and discuss why they marked themselves in the manner that they did. The reason for this being is because if the
