Personal Narrative: Measles And Mumps Vaccination

Throughout My life I attended public schools in Baltimore, MD from elementary school to Highschool. All of the schools had one thing in common which were vaccinations. If you were a student in the Baltimore city public school system you were required to get specific vaccines. If you did not have the vaccines that you were required to have, you were not allowed to go to school. One of the vaccines that were required was the Measles and Mumps vaccine which prevented the child from having a disease outbreak. It was expected for you to get one dose after your first birthday. After the first dose, you were expected to get another dose between the ages of 4 and 6. The vaccine is a immunization vaccine, it was a mixture of various diseases. …show more content…
Which means that if rules are in place they should be followed by everyone. Not just certain people. It is also free of any personal motives or desires. Kant’s Categorical imperative applies to the question that every child should be vaccinated for measles and mumps because if one child has to get vaccinated it is fair to have every child get vaccinated. People tend to think that they are excluded from certain rules. For instance, a rich person thinks that they do not have to go to jail for murder because they are rick. The rule is that murder is murder and you have to suffer the consequences of your actions. However, if you have a child that is being schooled with other kids you are not excluded from any rules. At that point, the debate goes beyond what the parent believes is right or wrong. It becomes a matter of what is in the best interest of the child. At school you are around many different children from different places. Some children do not wash their hands like others do. Being around various children allows kids to become more accessible to germs. If that rule was for everyone the world would be a better place because not only will every be treated equally but everyone will live under the same rules. There would not be people saying that they do not believe in vaccines. It is better for everyone to follow the same rules because it stops people from believing they …show more content…
It is Not just contributing to happiness for short term pleasure. The ethical law for society is a law that creates the most happiness for the most happiness for the most people. This is considered to be utilitarianism. There should be a law that requires all parents to make sure that all their children receive vaccinations to prevent bad diseases like measles and mumps. The law is a utilitarian answer because of the long term consequences. The purpose of the vaccine is to prevent children from becoming sick with diseases such as measles and mumps. Measles has symptoms of fever, rash, cough, painful red eyes. Mumps has symptoms that include aches and pains, runny nose, swollen glands in the cheeks, neck, and under the jaw. In addition, these diseases have serious complications such as pancreatitis and encephalitis. If it was a law that all children had to get the measles and mumps vaccine children would not have to deal with these conditions. They would be able to play and have fun instead of being sick. Everyone knows that being feverish is not fun. If there is a way to prevent children from dealing with unnecessary illnesses it needs to be done. When parents are making the decision to not get their child vaccinated, they are putting their child at risk for those diseases. The parents argue that when children are being vaccinated, they are being injected with the diseases. This
