“Northwest Iowan faith” is how I would describe my faith. By that I mean I have the same life story as most people in this area of the world. I grew up in a Christian home with Christian parents. We went to church every Sunday morning and every Wednesday night. I went to Sunday School and Catechism. I knew the common Bible stories and I knew that Jesus loved me and died for my sins. I did not go to a Christian high school, but the cool thing about Northwest Iowa – I think – is that my high school was not much different than the other Christian schools in the area. Even though we didn’t have dedicated “Bible-Time,” our teachers weren’t afraid to express their love for the Lord if it related to the lesson. Honestly, I was very blessed to have grown up where I did.
When I decided to attend Northwestern, I knew that Bible classes would be harder for me, but I also knew that I would learn a lot. I never realized how “comfortable” I was with my own understanding of the Bible and of God. Some parts of this class made me uncomfortable and made me think about what I believe to be true. He knows where I will be in the upcoming years, and where I will go when I die. I also believe that God is redeeming the world through his people. The world has become a really scary place to live, especially after this last year. There was point with all of the school shootings that I was surprised a local school wasn’t on the news.
