...This year in AP Psychology I would like to learn more about mental illnesses along with the causes and effects of them. I would like to learn more about serial killers and the mental illnesses some of the most notorious ones suffered from. I would like to learn how the brain of a serial killer works. I would like to learn also about obsessive compulsive disorders (OCD), since last year in psychology we just learned the basics. I would also like to learn the difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist, and what’s needed for each to have a career in either one. I took this class because I love to learn how the human brain works in different types of people. It is very interesting to learn how someone can become a serial killer or become mentally ill. I would love to learn the difference in the thought process of a person with a mental illness and someone without. I also took this class because I am thinking about going to college for psychology and I want to make sure that this is really what I want. Basically, I am taking this class to see if something in the psychology field is something I want to make a career out of. Some traits that I have to make this a better class are that, I’m very open minded, a quick learner, and a hard worker. I am not just taking this class to get it out of the way, I am taking this class because I have developed a strong interest in psychology. My plans for AP psychology are to make sure I’m successful in this class and to do everything...

...Psychology is a thought provoking subject that has made me rethink if we really know the truth behind how our conscious being operate. We know even less about our unconscious side, where there have been many curious incidents such as in 1987 a man killed two of his relatives while sleepwalking. This was explained by [talk about moral debate, importance of sleep research]There was much I was especially looking forward to studying different approaches to psychopathology. Such case studies made me even more curious about human nature and resulted in comprehension in various ways of interpreting behaviour. To gather more expertise on mental health I attended a lecture that explored the environmental influences on anxiety and depression which piqued a further interest in me and also assisted my studies on abnormality. I then pursued with the reading of recent news developments in the world of psychology, where I found articles concerning...

...Ever since I was small, I have always been interested in the sciences. From raising caterpillars in first grade to mixing chemicals in eighth grade to shooting projectiles in junior year, understanding the underlying processes that shape the universe has always intrigued me. However, more recently I have begun to take an additional interest in psychology after taking AP Psychology as a sophomore. Since then, learning about why our minds work the way they do and how this influences our actions has taken my attention as much as the traditional sciences have. As a result, I have decided to go into psychology as my major in college, but I still wish to combine this with my interest in science. With science and psychology spanning across different...

...My love of psychology did not begin with my first psychology class, advanced placement general psychology, it started with my second. Enrolling in a dual-enrollment social psychology class at the community college in my neighborhood is what sparked my interest in psychology. I became fascinated with the subject and knew from that moment that I wanted to pursue a degree in this field. Working with children is what I always pictured myself doing. My first job was at Quality Swimming, where I taught children (and adults) swimming lessons, and helped many of them get over their phobias of the water. To help the children overcome their phobia, we were trained to use systematic desensitization. We would begin with gradually exposing the children to the pool: starting with the children sitting on the top step, and slowly moving into deeper and deeper depths of the pool. The ultimate goal was to “teach water safety and instill in all students a love for the water.” While at Quality Swimming, I was able to apply knowledge from the classroom into my teaching. For instance, because of differences in the development of age groups, and individual differences I was able to create specific lesson plans to meet...

...By going to either field of psychology, the basic requirement is to get a bachelor’s in psychology. After that, a masters is required specifically for each individual field. For example: after I get my bachelor’s in psychology, I would need to pursue a master’s degree in clinical psychology if I want to become a clinical therapist and vice versa. However, to become a counseling therapist, I would need to get a Ph.D. or PSy.D. in the field of counseling psychology and along with that degree, I would need to be required to have one to two years’ experience as an intern in order to get a license and use the title “psychologist”. To get a bachelor’s in psychology, it really doesn’t matter where you get it. What really matters is where you go for...

It helps us understand many different roles people go through. In psychology, there are seven different schools of thought, in which they focus in different roles people behave and think. Evolutionary psychology would be the school I follow. Being a evolutionary psychologist would allow me to study how human behavior required for survival have adapted in the face of environment. Certain skill is need to learn to adapt for survival, like language. The way we communicate allows us to express our feelings, what we think and give a reasonable explanation of why we act the way we do. As well as passing down...

...because the words are so profoundly true. In the end we cannot blame anyone but ourselves for the way our life turns out. As I began writing this paper, I really had to think about how I felt about my own personal responsibility. I had to consider how my decisions affect those that are in my personal circle. Realizing the choices that I make now or in the future could have a paramount effect on my family and closes friends. Yes, I am responsible for how others view me and take into account the person that I have come to be. Being personally responsible means; being accountable for everything that happens in my life, including my actions, attitude and the decisions I make about such things as my health, how I handle myself on my job, being a good parent and being an excellent student. Personal responsibility also means that for every cause there is an effect, every action has a reaction. Is this reaction positive or negative? Well, that depends solely on how one handles the situation life throws your way. My true happiness depends on the degree to which I recognize and accept the consequences of my actions and realize that each action has a direct impact on whether I reach my goals, accomplish my dreams and make my life meaningful. I have recently decided to take personal responsibility for my life and finish what I started so many years ago. I always promised myself when I had finished raising my son I would return to school and complete my degree. That moment has arrived...

...Personal Responsibility and College Success Personal responsibility is something that can help an individual. I believe that if a person has the sense to be responsible in their everyday life, then being successful in college will be a breeze. To be successful, one has to make good choices to get good results. The choice I made was to attain my college degree. In order to pursue that goal, I need to be personally responsible for the work ahead and make it through any obstacles. Furthering ones education and personal responsibility have many things in common, especially if it helps that person get their priorities in order. Personal responsibility is accepting the actions chosen and the consequences from those actions. I take upon myself to set my personal responsibility as succeeding in college. Haskins (2009) wrote, “When applied to education, personal responsibility means that students accept the responsibility to study hard and to learn as much as they can in courses that press against the limits of their capacity.”. In other words, I am going to push myself until I can no longer push. Move forward, do not look back – only look at what the future holds. I want to set an example for my children that if you find the motivation that helps you be that better person, go for it. According to Ellis (2011), “Motivation can come simply from being clear about your goals and acting on them.” My personal motivations are to provide my children with a future that I can give...

...Individual personal statement Over the course of the facilitation module I have learnt many things, whether it be through work in class, through my own wider reading or my own personal experiences being a participant. One thing that has become clear through my reading of Boal's games for actors and non-actors is that facilitation is a platform to allow anyone to experience drama. I found this very interesting as using facilitation in this way shows the positive ways in which drama can be used. I felt that this was an important idea, especially as the purpose of our workshop was to bring drama to an age group that might not have had a chance to experience it. Although our group was not on the same calibre as the groups that Boal's in the theatre of the oppressed it is still just as important for them to experience drama, “Even if they had all been homogeneous groups I feel that this introduction would have been necessary” (Boal,1992) this clearly shows that it is important that we use facilitation in this way. Although I missed a section of this module, due to health reasons, I feel that I have tried my best to put in an equal effort towards to outcome as my peers. I have tried to use my own experiences being a participant in workshops myself and also my experience being a facilitator at a local drama school to influence my decisions in the planning and development process. As I was working with children of a similar age, I felt that this influenced the way I worked in this...

...Bring your own device Let’s take a moment to understand the opportunity and the downside of people utilizing their own personal device in the work force. As IT departments struggle to keep up with yearly technology changes, company employees increasingly want to utilize their own electronic equipment to access corporation data. People utilize, bring you own device (BYOD),bring your own tablet (BYOT), Bring Your Own Phone (BYOP) and Bring Your Own PC (BYOPC) All of these have evolved to empower workforces through the so-called 'computerization of IT. As these services are growing fast, these can be serious risks to company’s data. Richard Absalom, an analyst at Ovum, believes that BYOD will happen whether a company plans for it or not. He says: "Trying to stand in the path of computerized mobility is likely to be a damaging and futile exercise." The best thing that a company or enterprise can do, is to be aware of the benefits and understand the risks. Despite the serious risks involved, there are serious benefits and advantages businesses can benefit from them, it can potentially increasing employee satisfaction, employees can work more flexible, cost savings, it reduces hardware spend, software licensing, device maintenance and productivity gains, employees are happier when they use their own personal device. As I have mentioned, there are risks involved when employees uses their own contrivance in the work force. The questions arise who owns the device...
