Summer is finally here, and as soon as you dip your toes in the water, it’s already over. The 8 hours of Netflix you watched replaced all of you knowledge from last year.. When you finally get to school, your grade starts off with a 70% in your ELAR test. This is what we call ‘Summer Brain drain’ and there’s now a way to prevent it. Year round school makes sure we have breaks that are more spread out, therefore not forgetting any information. With year round school, in between breaks we could get more sleep, bump your grades by getting more time to study, and stopping brain drain.

Each week we have 2 days off, and per school year, we have 112 mandatory tests. Now teachers sometimes provide you class time and a study guide to work on at home, but with after school activities, and homework, studying can be hard to fit in. 50-70% of kids fail to graduate, some can’t afford to go to college, and others can’t afford to pay for a tutor to keep their grades up. With breaks in between semesters, kids would have time to catch up on what they missed out on, and have more time to prepare for upcoming tests. Summer brain drain is when we go through summer, and forget everything for the next grade. “We know from decades of research that students come back in the fall about one month behind where they were in the spring,” said Catherine Augustine. When kids come back from school, studies show that from the last test they took in Spring, to the first test they took in August, the grade goes down significantly. We can prevent summer brain drain using multiple ways. Reading books, going to the library, and special apps. 62,500 education apps are in the App Store so you can use to make sure you keep your brain going. We might still lose some knowledge, but with these solutions, we can keep our grades up a slight bit
