...Eng 101 Prof: Conners Essay 1, Draft 1 9/28/2015 Art is the beautiful thing created by human whatever it is messy or beautiful. People express their creative skill and imagination, and try to bewitch other people to their works. It is art. I watched the documentary that there is a man, Mr. Philippe Petit, walked on the wire that connected between towers at height a hundred and ten stories. He created art through his skill, bewitched everybody who saw his walk. His imagination and passion is almost impossible for other people. Is it art? Yes, tightrope walk between the Twin Tower is very creative and significant art. To create art, of course, people need to take time to build their skill. It didn’t happen over a night. What do you think of Mr.Petit’s tightrope walking? His creative skill and imagination are amazing. Mr. Petit spent most of the time to build his skill. He failed several times, but he never gave up. He went back and forth from his country to New York to create his art. He devoted all his efforts into it for his whole life. He has a great passion, perseverance. We could see it. It is a lot more difficult to create his art than any other arts. His imagination is different from any others. He did something that might be a dream for others. His creation isn’t normal. He bet his life to create his art. It is a signification art. As an artist, his job is to immerse his viewers into a world that he has built. In the book, ‘let the great world spin’, by Colum...

...and his pledge to modernise Britain, but he promises to respect the Royal Family. Three months later, Diana, Princess of Wales died in a car crash at the Alma Bridge tunnel in Paris. Blair's director of communications, Alastair Campbell (Mark Bazeley), prepares a speech in which Diana was described as "the people's princess". Blair gives his speech the next day and the phrase catches on. Within the next few days after Diana's death, millions of people across London display an outpouring of grief at Buckingham and Kensington Palaces. Meanwhile, the Royal Family are still at their summer estate in Balmoral Castle. Diana's death sparks division among members of the family, in which they observe that since Diana was divorced from her husband, Prince Charles (Alex Jennings) a year earlier, she was no longer a part of the family. Diana's funeral arrangements were thus best left as a private affair of her noble family, the Spencers. Charles argues that the mother of a future king cannot be dismissed so lightly, while the Queen authorises the use of an aircraft of the British Royal Flight to bring Diana's body back to Britain. In London, flowers pile up before the palace railings, which forces the changing of the Queen's guard to use another gate. British tabloids become inflammatory about the lack of a statement from the Royal Family. Charles leaves no doubt that he shares Blair's views about the need for a statement. As the Royal Family's popularity plummets, Blair's acceptance rises...

...The Prince, written by Machiavelli, was a guide for all the rulers of his time who wanted to become major powers and to find all the solutions to their political problems. In his book, Machiavelli mentions a great amount of key points that guide rulers to the road of success. One of the key aspects that Machiavelli talks about is fate and how it effects the decisions of a ruler. The following paragraphs will discuss how human affairs are governed by fate, and how fate can be contested. During Machiavelli's time, it was commonly thought that events were ruled by fate and by God only. Not only that, but men could do nothing to stop or protect themselves from those events. Machiavelli did believe in fate, but he did not believe in the fact the fate controlled all events that occurred to mankind. If that were so then princes would rule by chance. This is proven when Machiavelli states I am not unaware that many have held and hold the opinion that the events are controlled by fortune…cause of this, they would conclude that there is no point in sweating over things, but that one should submit to the rulings of chance. (Machiavelli, pg.79) Machiavelli argued that fate controlled one half a person's life but the other half was governed by the people themselves. Machiavelli strongly suggests that princes are fortunate when fate and time are in harmony with their procedures, but things fall apart when things begin to change and the princes do not attempt to adapt to the changes. Machiavelli...

...Advice for managers: Intrapersonal Skills Achieve and Maintain Confidence, Focus, and Positive Self-image Decreasing Self-Oriented Perfectionism Work on your self-esteem, and try to stop the automatic thinking that sets your sights so high that your efforts can never measure up. It is OK to be hard on yourself on occasion, but be sure to take some time to be proud of your successes as a manager - and as a person. Reflect seriously about how you perceive yourself. Note your own negative and positive self-impressions. Write down what you like about yourself, what your strengths are, the people to whom you are important, and why you are important to them. Also, keep track of your negative perceptions and try to figure out why you took that particular issue so seriously. Maybe it wasn’t so bad after all. Explore why you should be proud of yourself and review this list often. Keep a journal of your thoughts, moods, and daily activities. Observe your automatic reactions to events at work and how you feel about yourself during daily life. If you make what you see as a horrendous mistake and feel like the lowest, lamest, most despicable worm on the earth, then write down the event, how you feel about yourself, and how you interpret the situation. Next, consider the situation from other perspectives and write these thoughts down as well. Follow these steps to gain new insight about your perceptions: - Do a serious reality-check: Are other people thinking as scathingly about you? If...

...contrasting in relationship to literature, a number of pieces of can qualify. In particular, the idea of leadership is arguably one of the most written about topics with regard to comparing and contrasting. Throughout history, it can be argued that the majority of successful societies have been based upon effective divisions of leadership. Accordingly, in their pieces of literature, The Tao-te Ching and The Qualities of the Prince, Lao-tzu and Machiavelli have sought to convey a more complete and concrete understanding of their respective definitions and duties of a ruler (leadership). The theme of political leaders and their intricate relationship with society indeed validate itself within both texts. However, both Lao-tzu and Machiavelli approach this issue from almost entirely opposite positions, though sharing minute similarities. Lao-tzu appears to focus the majority of his attention on letting problems or situations take their course, and consequently good would prevail. On the contrary, Machiavelli advocates the necessity for a successful leader, or prince, to take control of his deeds, and the skills or qualities necessary to maintain power. Since both writers propose a question as to what is in essence the same dilemma, effective leadership, it becomes almost natural literary etiquette to contrast the two in an effort to better understand what qualities a prosperous leader must possess. Despite each author’s contrasting approaches to rhetoric, they agree that a ruler should...

...Health Hazards in the IT profession When you tell someone you are in the IT profession they usually come back with something like “oh so you get to sit around all day playing on a computer!” The truth is there are lots of risks with “sitting around playing on a computer”. Being at a desk and in front of a computer can be just as hazardous as being a construction worker or a mover for a moving company. There are health hazards that go along with sitting all day. Blood clots from lack of movement, the lighting of the computer screen which cause headaches and eye strain. With a busy work environment, often time there is no time for a nice long lunch hour which leads to grabbing something quick and usually not the healthiest on the menu. This is just to name a few of the problems with being an IT. It’s hard to believe an industry such as Information Technology can actually be hazardous to your health. Did I mention stress? Although there are a lot of physical issues that come with the IT profession, I would like to focus on the stress of the IT profession. It was not long ago that I worked in an office environment and had no idea what it took to be an “IT person”. I was one of the many that complained about how long it took to get and IT person to look at my computer to see what was wrong with it. Until now, I had no idea. With the tighter budgets caused by the economic strain, there has been a problem with understaffing in the IT field. Unfortunately, understaffing...

...News Article Paper This article is about Prince Harry. He allegedly took nude photographs in Las Vegas during a trip. This article is discussing what happened during his trip, and whether he will be reprimanded once he returns home. He is the prince of England, and also a captain in the British Army Air Corps. There are a lot of speculations made in the article. Author’s Position The author’s position in this article is one of assumptions. He seems to be trying to make it seem as though Prince Harry will be in a lot of trouble upon his return to England. Stating that he brought “shame” to the British military. He also makes comments like “Harry seems to be having a blast in the photos, one displaying a pool table that Ministry only hopes really was used for a game of strip billiards.” Support The author uses past incidents with Prince William as support in the article. He also uses quotes from citizens of England, and Us Magazine. These are a long shot at best. The Royal Family did not comment on the incident. Nor did Prince Harry. Therefore, there is not much solid evidence used by the author as to whether or not the prince will be reprimanded upon his return. Reliability This article does not seem to have much reliability. It is overwhelmed with assumptions and over dramatizations. The article assumes that because he is a prince he will have consequences to pay for his actions. The article also has quotes from both the author, and citizens. Neither...

...| What is Friendship? What is friendship? People have been asking this question for centuries, and we can never know the exact answer that will fit everybody’s definition of friendship. Friends are people without whom your life wouldn’t be complete. They are the people who you know for ages, or even if you don’t you feel like you were born on the same day. They will always be by your side and will help you with any troubles. In the dictionary you can find three definitions of friendship:1. The quality or condition of being friends2. A friendly relationship3. Friendliness, good will In order to know what all these definitions mean we need to figure out what is the definition for friends. A friend is defined as a person whom one knows, likes, and trusts. So friendship is when two people know each other well, and trust each other. ...Josh M Darling 9-27-13 MGT386-002 Diary 3 1.) What did you do this week? /What Happened? This week I stopped posting flyers about my $10 business. I received more business calls than I really had time for. I had a lot of people asking about the flyers and generated quite a bit of business from people I already knew with dogs. I had a total of 10 customers this week and had to buy a new $7 bottle of dog shampoo. 2.) What did you think about this week? I felt like this second week went well because I had 2 return customers along with 8 new contacts and generated a weekly profit of $93 ($100-$7 for the shampoo). Time was a big issue this week; I am taking 28 hours and have little free time. It was hard scheduling appointments because of the nature of my business. Going to people’s houses and performing a service generally calls for you to be on the client’s time, the same goes for most service industries. 3.) What will you do next week? Next week I will try and make more time for the business. I will not make any more attempts of advertising until I come up with a better way to schedule appointments, and or just leave the rest of advertisement up to WOM. I will also again follow up with the clients I had this week asking if they would like for me to come and perform my service again or at least at a bi-weekly rate. I also plan on incorporating nail clipping next week and making new prices. (10$ basic wash, $20 deluxe wash, groom, nail) 4.) Did you...

...Standing before you on this day reminds me of my 8th grade graduation. I sat on the stage listening to three of my peers give beautiful speeches that had nothing to do with any of the feelings I felt. The speakers harped on the nostalgia of leaving a school they had been at for nine years; I had only been there for three. They spoke on how they would miss seeing the same faces everyday and that they feared the days ahead – however, I was excited. When I thought about the future I saw all the things waiting for me to come and try. I saw the new friends I would make, the papers I would write, the softball games I would win, the clubs and activities I would join, the boy who would be my first kiss, and the wonderful people I would meet who would inspire me more than I realized at the time. Graduation is a time to look at what the future has in store for each of us. It is a time to take a look at what path our lives are going to take once the caps and gowns are taken off and we are thrust into an unknown future. Changes next year will vary greatly for each of us, they will come in the form of new environments, lifestyles, and schedules. And these changes will bring an abundance of questions. Will I be happy? Will I fall in love? Will I have a family? Will I be happy five or ten years down the road? Will I make a difference? Will I make a difference in my community? In my country? In the world? El Cerrito High School graduates of 2010, we...
