One of the best ways I believe the author made their argument was by constructing and explaining the Phenomenology of Terror. This is used to lay out different “phases of terror” (122) that were experienced during La Violencia. To do this, Sandford identifies seven phases of violence that the victims of this massacre experienced using a combination of research into these and other massacres and testimonies. The reason I believe this is such an essential part of the book is because it lays everything out clearly in a way that is easy for the reader to follow.
