Painting Style

...As you look at the piece The Emperor Napoleon in His Study at the Tuileries, by Jacques Louis David you will notice that it is in the style of neoclassicism. It’s obvious because it pulls from the western style of the Greeks. This style was created to show a classic style based off of the Roman and Greek background. In this painting the part that is most eye catching is the way the chair is portrayed. There are sharp edges and it lacks pastel colors. Even though it is obvious that Napoleon is in the painting your eye goes straight to the striking depiction of the chair first. In the second painting The Luncheon of the Boating Party, by Pierre-Auguste Renoir there is the style of impressionism. Being the artist that developed this style of art Renoir focused on the personal and honest of his subjects. Renoir’s paintings contain vibrant colors and light and airy brush strokes that come together beautifully. The Luncheon of the Boating Party in its entirety appears to be a very busy painting. When a closer look is take you notice that the activities are detailed and add a sense of lively hood to the painting. This painting shows how Renoir saw his world at the time and that he was a very detail orientated artist. The clothing styles, activities occurring, and food being consumed was drawn in such a way that it felt as if you were there experiencing the scene yourself. Lastly Jackson Pollock’s painting Autumn Rhythm is a perfect example of abstract impressionists. Pollock...

He was the leader in developing impressionism, Monet studied under many teachers or painters as we may say, such as: August Renoir, Charles Gleyre and Eugene Boudin. He started his painting career as an outdoor painter and then we to study in Paris and some other countries in Europe. Monet was a brilliant student, he worked with various different artists: Corot and the Barbizon artists. He painted directly from nature, his style was his own imaginary or visionary. His work after 1880, was marvelous, more mature, more admirable. Especially for other painters that used to criticize his works. Before that period, we could see his paintings were different, paintings as: “On the bank of the Seine” and Sunrise”. He used light color, or mixed 2 different colors in order to give us a very good look as it becomes one color. He did not use a lot of oil and the way he used his brush was gentle and very light. After 1880, in a typical impressionist style, the vanishing color was light and very intense. Even it was not very appreciated by majority of viewers. Charles Bigot criticized him by saying” Everything that Monet does should be hung at a certain height or barrier should prevent one from getting too close”. In Monet’s work we see no more than a formless ensemble: unpleasant blues, crude blotches,...

On November 18, 2016 at Christie’s Auction Claude Monet’s painting called the Muele from his series called Haystack sold for 81.4 million dollars. I’m not very knowledgeable about art, or art history and my interest in Monet is very recent. Monet may not be an artist you like. You may even thing his art is old fashioned but have you ever really looked at his art. A couple of months ago, out of boredom, I really looked at a painting he did in Paris. (if I can find a copy of his painting I need to show it to audience) Take a look, really look and if you do you will see his painting are blobs of color and light. Now I know not everyone here has kids but imagine you do and image your 4 four year old brings you his/her painting of light and blobs of color. As parents you oo and ah but we don’t pay 81.4 million for that painting. The average price for one of his works is 7 million. The term impressionist was meant as a criticism against Monet’s but has come to define not only Monet but also painters like Manet, Renoir, Degas, Cezanne. It defines a style of painting that is about light, movement and color. Paintings pre-impressionism had a stiff formal appearance while Monet depicted the movement of life. Why do I care, painting was photography at that time. What did he capture...

August Comte

...Principles of Sociology Auguste Comte Everything in life has a founder or someone who did it first. For example, there was someone who made the first functioning car (Karl Benz), someone who discovered electricity(Benjamin Franklin), and someone who invented the sport of american football(Walter Camp). If Sociology had a founder, it would be considered Auguste Comte. “Comte’s decision to develop successively a philosophy of mathematics, a philosophy of physics, a philosophy of chemistry and a philosophy of biology, makes him the first philosopher of science in the modern sense, and his constant attention to the social dimension of science resonates in many respects with current points of view.”(Bourdeau). The question is, what is Sociology? “Sociology is the study of societies and the social worlds that individuals inhabit within”(TheSociologyProject). Auguste Comte was born in Montpellier on January 20, 1798. Comte was a very intelligent man. “Having displayed his brilliance in school, he was ranked fourth on the admissions list of the Ecole Poltechnique in Paris in 1814.”(Bourdeau). Throughout his life, he wrote a good amount of texts. “Comte’s most important works are (1) the Course on Positive Philosophy (1830-1842, six volumes, translated and condensed by Harriet Martineau as The Positive Philosophy of Auguste Comte); (2) the System of Positive Polity, or Treatise on Sociology, Instituting the Religion of Humanity, (1851-1854, four volumes); and (3) the Early Writings...

How Does Rodin's Burgure To Make A Sculpture?

...The Burghers of Calais is a sculpture made by Auguste Rodin. This sculpture was made in the years of 1884-9 and is located in Calais, France. I believe that Rodin made his sculpture to be a sculpture in the round, which means that it is meant to be seen from all sides. The person viewing the work must walk or move around it to see the whole thing. There are four main ways to make a sculpture, which is carving, modeling, casting, and assembling. In this particular sculpture, Rodin used the casting method, I do not know what the original models were made out of but to mold it he used bronze. The history behind The Burghers of Calais is six top leaders surrendering themselves to be executed. Rodin was commissioned by the French city of Calais...

Augustine

...Auguste Comte grew up in the wake of the French Revolution. He rejected religion and royalty, focusing on sociology. He broke the subject into two categories: the forces holding society together ("social statics") and those driving social change ("social dynamics"). Comte's ideas and use of scientific methods greatly advanced the field of sociology Isidore Auguste Marie François Xavier Comte, better known as August Comte was born on January 19, 1798 in Montpellier, France. He was the son of Louis Comte, a government tax official and his mother Rosalie (Boyer) Comte. Both of Comte’s parents were monarchists and devout Roman Catholics. Born in the shadow of the French Revolution, modern science and technology gave birth to the Industrial Revolution. During this time, European society experienced violent conflict and feelings of alienation. Confidence in established beliefs and institutions was shattered. Auguste Comte spent much of his life developing a philosophy for a new social order amidst all the chaos and uncertainty. While attending the University of Montpellier, Comte abandoned these attitudes in favor of republicanism inspired by the French Revolution, which would influence his later work. His brilliance as a mathematician and scientist were proven when he entered Ecole Polytechnique in 1814. He left school before graduating and settled in Paris with no viable way to support himself. He earned a meager living teaching mathematics and journalism while deep in the study...

...The Classical Brigade System vs. Modern Brigade System By: Dianna Bahamonde Le Cordon Bleu For my kitchen brigade research paper I chose to do one of my favorite restaurants, which is called Hawkers. The restaurant is located in the Downtown Orlando area and is owned by a family friend. The specialty of the small, cozy place is Asian street food that people sell-or hawk-all over the cities of Asia. In order for a restaurant to work successfully the employers have to work as a team. Although everyone in the business is important, the place would be a ghost town without the kitchen staff. They range from dish washers to executive chefs, but each person is as important as the last. This paper is about the way the brigade system is set up at Hawkers and how it compares to the classical brigade system. To do my research paper, I had to find all the information I could about Hawkers and about the way the kitchen brigade was set up when Escoffier designed it. I decided that since I was unable to visit the restaurant, I decided that the next best thing would be to call the manager. He answered all my questions as best as he could. In order to find the information about the classic brigade I reread my class notes and searched the internet. The day starts every day at around nine in the morning when employers clock in to begin cooking. The first to come in is the Executive chef, also known as Tim...
