On September 11, 2001 the twin towers in New York City were purposefully destroyed by a group of Islamic extremists. The attack led to an innate fear of those of the same religion. Flash forward a decade and that fear has all but decreased. The grouping of individuals by association is known as stereotyping, Stereotyping leads to numerous problems for both the individual and the group as a whole. For example, Individuals face discrimination at both work and school. The effects on the group, however, are much more drastic. Because of their religion, many nations refuse to give them asylum out of fear. On the individual level Muslim children and teenagers are targets for derogatory comments and acts of hate. According to Sacirbey, an older boy asked a young female student “What are you looking at towel-head?” (Sacirbey). The older boy was referencing to her Islamic headscarf. Then on 11/14 another Islamic terrorist group attacked Paris, France. Despite the fact that refugees had been fleeing to countries like Greece for months, America was turned upside down over the decision on whether or not to allow refugees into the country. Despite American values, the majority of the states refuse to take in refugees. However, some politicians believe that the US should accept Christian refugees but not Muslim. The stereotyping of the Muslim population as terrorists is causing people to refuse them safety. In certain areas, Muslims are not seen as people they are seen as potential shooters and suicide bombers, because of the indiscretions of a select group of extremists
In conclusion, stereotyping affects the muslim population gravely. Muslim children are harassed at school, and muslim women are belittled in the most unlikely places. The group as a whole is also affected. Stereotyping has led to the dehumanization of the muslim people, they are not even regarded as people in certain parts of the

...Imperialism’s effects on China has always been controversial and debatable. Andrew Nathan’s article on Imperialism’s Effects on China explains imperialism’s positive contributions to modern day China and defends the theory that China’s difficulties are caused by internal factors rather than external. On the other hand, Joseph Esherick’s Harvard on China: The Apologetics of Imperialism argues that China’s economic and social disruptions are caused by imperialism. However, when one examines the evidence chosen and rhetoric of both sides, one may realize the faults in Nathan’s essay which are not shown in Esherick’s. Esherick, as opposed to Nathan, delivers his arguments and defends his stance in a well-rounded manner along with wise usage of his evidence–forming a more crystalized and convincing argument. The two sides disagree on the fundamental question of whether imperialism brought harm or benefits to China in three aspects: effects on the economy, effects on politics, and the results of imperialism. Nathan focuses on the economic benefits foreign trade has brought, while undermining the arguments that his opponents made (in this case, mainly James Peck and Issac’s arguments.)
