Poverty and Homelessness in Nebraska
With more and more people falling under the poverty line, I thought it was only fitting that I write about this target population. More people are starting families, the population is growing, and good paying jobs are scarce in today’s society, this is where the problem starts. Most jobs that are available today are most likely minimum wage jobs. More people are falling below the poverty line, which means more people are in need of assistance. Most people are doing everything they can just to survive and that is still not enough. This target population does not just focus on one particular age group, race, sex, or any other demographic.
With pay falling and prices rising things can add up pretty quickly. In today’s society it is hard to even be able to afford the necessities in life, such as, food, clothing, and shelter. Then there are other necessities that add up quickly as well, such as electricity, heat, water, and putting gas in the cars to get to and from work and school. In today’s society it is getting harder and harder to get by. There are many places in Nebraska that were founded specifically to help these families that are struggling.
One agency that helps this group of people is The Center for People in Need, located in Lincoln, Nebraska. This agency gives assistance to poor or low income families. The Center for People in Need helps these families in various ways. People can get assistance with food, utilities, housing, child care, and transportation. This agency even goes as far as providing Christmas gifts to families that may not have been able to have a Christmas without this assistance.
