...Nguyen Nguyen ESLW- S04 Essay#2 Baseball Season Preparation Baseball has always been America’s natural past time. Many fans love watching baseball but do not realize how hard it is to prepare for a season. Most fans think the players just show up on the first day. I think this belief is completely false. I feel that preparing for a baseball season requires much preparation. The preparation I use includes working on my swing, working out, and studying other people’s ideas on hitting. These steps are necessary for me to have a successful season. These steps have proven to be a valuable aid in helping me to prepare for the season. I believe these steps are the basic steps to becoming a great baseball player. Developing my swing is the first step I use in preparing for the upcoming season. There are a few different techniques I use to work on my swing. The first way is to take hitting lessons. I learn much of my knowledge about hitting from taking hitting lessons. My usual routine consists of taking lessons three times a week. This allows me to be evaluated by a professional. I took hitting lessons from the same coach for five straight years. His teachings have helped me become a much better hitter. Another way I develop my swing is by practicing daily...

...a college game there is two twenty minute halves for a total of forty minutes. Each team has four seventy-five second timeouts and two thirty second timeouts. In college, there are also media timeouts which give coaches extra time to coach their teams without using one of their own timeouts. There is no such thing as a media timeout in high school basketball. The gap in the game length of high school and college is not adequately preparing prep players for the next level of play. The players are not used to such long of games when they reach the college level, therefore they are not in the best shape they could be. A high school season last about twenty-five games while a college season lasts about forty games. This aspect also is doing players a disservice because it is not preparing them adequately...

...Greenfield (1994) stated that playing games in a regular basis allows the user to familiarize oneself in a “computer-oriented society”. Games where graphics play a more important role than phrases such as adventure and action games help the players to improve their “Spatial Awareness”, which is the ability of relating things with one another and it also boosts their mental processes. (Mitchell & Smith, 2004). Playing video games also requires the ability to use visual information to control and direct the motor system in order to complete a task. This ability is necessary in everyday activities like reading, writing, walking, driving, dressing etc. To perform well in an action games, the players must react quickly to detect threats, determine its level of difficulty and defend properly. Similarly with driving games, quick reactions to vehicles and obstacles that appear suddenly are required to avoid collisions and accidents. Players get tutored in detecting a range of visual and acoustic evidence that supports speedy decisions. This is why military uses video games to train pilots and soldiers and professional racers use video games to improve their driving...

...hobby to me that has taught me many valuable lessons. Coaching has taught me to prepare in everything I do, it has taught me to be a better competitor, and it has given me the ability to be a better teacher. Coaching as a hobby has been a very fun and eventful time in my life, but coaching has taught me to prepare for not only my games but for everything I do in life. I was a procrastinator when it came to completing tasks, and it would drive my family crazy. When I started coaching I noticed that I had to prepare well in advance, and my preparing started months before any practice or game had started. I go over and over in my head what the next practice is going to be like and I take the same approach to my work. I used to just show up and get the job done, which sometimes would run into simple problems or just plain run out of time. As soon as I started coaching, at work, I noticed that at the end of the workday I was preparing myself for the next day. I found myself completing more tasks and with less rework. Supervisors noticed the...

...The NCAA(National Collegiate Athletic Association) is not paying college athletes, which will become a problem sooner or later if the NCAA does not pay college athletes. Many people think that paying college athletes will bring some problems to universities/colleges, such as offering players more money. However it would be unfair for less appealing and wealthy schools because they do not have as much power or money to recruit the best players. Though people do not understand that college football is for stronger players compared to weaker ones. If the players are dedicated to playing for their future, then paying college athletes would prepare them for the NFL(National Football League) and the players who don’t make it still help their team get better. Although most players in college do not make it to the NFL, every player on their teams help win and helps other players get better so everyone should receive a piece of the action....

...Preparing Business Scenario Analyses The following general guidelines may be used in preparing for an oral or written business scenario analysis and presentation. There may be several feasible courses of action regarding the solution to any case. It is more important to concern yourself with the process of problem definition and isolation, analysis, and evaluation of alternatives, and the choice of one or more recommendations, rather than trying to find a single answer. Very often, the right answer is the one that you can propose, explain, defend, and make work. • The Process of Analyzing a Case 1. Read and study the scenario thoroughly and efficiently. Read the scenario once for familiarity, noting issues that come to the forefront. Read the scenario again. Determine all the facts, making notes about symptoms of problems, root problems, unresolved issues, and roles of key players. Watch for issues beneath the surface. 2. Isolate the problem(s). Get a feel for the overall environment by putting yourself in the position of one of the key players. Seek out the pertinent issues and problems. 3. Analyze and evaluate alternatives. a. Once the problems and issues are isolated, work at gaining a better understanding of causes. In what area of the unit do the problems exist? Why? What caused them? Examine and evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the unit’s processes (e.g., planning, communication), human behaviors, and/or exhibits (e.g., financial statements,...

...Case Analysis Guide The Six Steps for Preparing a Case Analysis with excerpts from: “Teaching and the Case Method”, Barnes, Christiansen, Hansen; Harvard Business School Publishing. Professor Edward G. Wertheim, College of Business Administration, Northeastern University Why study using the case method? Stated simply, to teach you, the student, how to think. “The sole direct path to enduring improvements in the methods of instruction and learning consists in centering upon the conditions which exact, promote, and test thinking. Thinking IS the method of intelligent learning, of learning that employs and rewards mind. We speak, legitimately enough, about the method of thinking, but the important thing to bear in mind is that thinking IS method, the method of intelligent experience in the course which it takes”. * *From “Teaching and the Case Method”, Barnes, Christiansen, Hansen; Harvard Business School Publishing. Your Responsibilities: Participation in a case method class is futile without careful preparation. It is similarly futile to attempt to learn simply by listening to your classmates’ opinions of the “right answer”. Learning in a case method course is based on active participation in the generation of alternative solutions and creation of actionable strategies. The case itself is merely the conduit for discussion. Most students are disconcerted by the seemingly vast and disjointed information presented. Even though the prospect of a...

...Since most hockey players devote their times and energy to be ready for the game after several practices of body checking, if it is forbidden, their aspiration will be useless. For instance, the mother of four sons, Katherine Devlin reports,“ her 10-year-old son Sean was “devastated.” Sean had been preparing for his first hockey season with body checking” (Feschuk, Dave 2013). The chance of getting harmed will be lessen while having full of equipment on the body. To be clear, Devlin describes, “And I would prefer they’re out on the schoolyard or in a park or in my living room, for that matter” (Feschuk, 2013). This quotation clearly demonstrates how parents truly believe in body checking. However, Devlin forgot that Helmet couldn’t protect children from getting brain damage. As an illustration, Cherry utters, “Brains are delicate, and they run our bodies and minds. When they are flung around inside the skull, which is weirdly enough rough on the inside, they don’t do too well” (The Huffington Post, 2013). Not only is body checking prevention, but one of the skills. Devlin points out that “ I saw my son’s team using hitting as just another skill” (Feschuk, 2013). Despite to the expectation and safety for the game, Mokrzynski argues that “ If Peewee coaches don’t have to teach body checking, they will be able to “spend more time and effort on making them better players” (Bergsma, 2013). In this case, he doesn’t have a specific data to support his arguments how the ban can have...
