Technology and Children

...only that this technology is replacing traditional children's activities but that it also may be diminishing social-interaction skills, the ability to relate to the world around them and their empathy for others." But not everyone agrees, there are as many people that promote the use of electronic devices for educational purposes with young children as there are against it. In this essay we will discuss the pro's and the cons of children and technology. The different type of media and the effects they can have on children. Some children seem to be born with the ability to adapt social interaction and the use of media devices. Being able to utilize technology to help a child advance in life by teaching them basic education is helpful in preparing a child for their future. Media devices are useful in helping to educate children, but they cannot replace the day to day social interaction a child requires early in life. It is the responsibility of the parent to make sure that a child gets enough social interaction with other children so that they learn how to relate to others in a group. It is said that a child is like a sponge they absorb information constantly so by making sure that they are absorbing the right kind of information is paramount to their futures. As a child, the human brain learns how to react to different emotions. Even devices that try to simulate emotion does not work 100%. It can only offer prerecorded responses. Classroom Management Plan

...Classroom Management Plan: CALMM CLASS 9th-12th grade Kristin Guffey     I currently teach at Soddy Daisy High School in the CALMM Class. CALMM stands for Coaching All Mentoring and Modeling. I teach social skills to high functioning autistic high school students. I have 12 students in my class. I have 3 girls and 9 boys in my classroom. There ages are from 14-18 years old. In my class students are instructed to walk into the room and sit at their assigned seats at the big tables in the middle of the room. If they need materials at their individual desks along the wall, they raise their hands to get permission. Usually students enter one or two at a time, due to their varied schedules. Students each have a desk for their supplies, backpacks, etc. They only have what is needed for the time being on the tables in the middle of the room. This prevents them from getting their things in others' way and arguing about stuff on the table. The room is not large, but there is plenty of walking space around the tables and desks. Usually there are only one or two people moving at a time. My desk is in the corner where I can see everyone, and the educational assistant’s desks are in the other corner where they can see everyone as well. My computer is in the corner by my desk, where it is not vulnerable to students messing with it. A book shelf with curriculum materials is along the wall behind my desk. It is accessible to my educational assistants and I. Students may get things...

The Jigsaw Discussion Protocol Puts the Pieces Together by Sara M. Ayele, Pharmd, Pgy1 Pharmacy Practice Resident, Va Maryland Health Care System According to the Accreditation Council for Pharmaceutical Education (Acpe)

...pharmacy schools must be active, lifelong learners.1 Pharmacists are playing an increasinging role in team-based patient care, according to a new study from the Pharmacy Workforce Center.2 Thus, student pharmacists must become effective communicators as well.3 Yet, most teaching methods used during pharmacy school emphasize content delivery rather than developing the skills a health professional needs on a team. Ideally instructional methods should not only deliver content, but also build communication and self-directed learning skills. The jigsaw technique appears to be an excellent way to achieve all of these aims.1 The jigsaw technique requires students to explore the content by bringing together multiple pieces of information, like a jigsaw puzzle. In order to master the material, students must gather all the “pieces” of the puzzle. Once the instructor determines the theme or content area to be explored, students are randomly divided into several small groups that are called “teaching” groups. Then, each student in the teaching group is assigned a portion of the material to be learned. Next, students in the various "teaching" groups who have been assigned the same material form an “expert group.” The expert group works together and decides how best to deliver, communicate, and teach the material to the members of their respective “teaching” group. Finally, the teaching groups reconvene so each group member teaches others about their piece of the puzzle until all the...

...Janine A. Bettis http://janinebettis.weebly.com EDU-225 7/20/2015 Entry 2: Technology to Enhance Instruction Integrating Instructional Technology Integrating instructional technology is very important in the 21st century classrooms. Technology has many advantages throughout education. As future educators, we are preparing our students for the future and technology is becoming more and more advanced. Today’s technology helps the teacher plan lessons and it also helps students gain valuable knowledge to succeed in today’s world. “There is also governmental legislation in place, such as the Enhancing Education through Technology program that requires all students to be technologically literate by the eighth grade. This is ensured by the Government Performance and Results Act program that assesses the percentage of eighth grade students who meet technology requirements.”(www.uscranton.com). There is a variety of technology that is being used in classrooms today. Kid Blogs Kid blogs is a great way to get the younger students involved in technology. It allows them the opportunity to start up their own blogs that are connected to their classrooms. Creating a kids blog in your classroom encourages the students to write more and use their creative side. Teachers are able to monitor all the activity in the blog, and parents have the opportunity to read the blogs as well. The kid’s blog focuses on meaningful writing, but allows students to also work on collaborating projects...

Labor Relations

...Chapter 7 Case Study Part 1: Cami Machado, Trainer One of Cami’s other tasks, in addition to implementing the black box technology, is to ensure that everyone affected by the system changes will be trained well in advance of the implementation. As such, she is responsible for “training the trainers” or “train-the-trainers” sessions as they are called. Being at the center of the change and having taught Information Technology courses at a local university in the past, she feels well prepared to lead the train-the-trainers courses on new data security procedures for Listo Systems. She is eager to conduct the first session and has spent two weeks preparing large, detailed manuals rich in statistics and flow charts. The professional trainers in her first class do not share her enthusiasm. Although it is obvious to them that she loves her job, their general evaluations of the course were poor. Comments from the trainers included “lots of smoke but no fire,” “talks down to us,” and “I still don’t have a clue what is expected of me and the people I will be training.” Although Cami expects these comments from the very first train-the-trainers course, her manager realizes that something needs to be done immediately. Cami routinely represents Listo Systems at an annual Computer Graphic Service Trade Show. This show is well attended by virtually all of their clients. Because of the changes they are making in the way that they will receive and send jobs to and from their clients...

These devices can be used to store books, lecture notes, and class videos. They are portable; making it easy to carry in a backpack, purse and often times, pockets. Students and Instructors can take advantage of these devices by uploading appropriate lesson plans and study guides to their MP3 players. While music and audio books enhance concentration, we believe some students would abuse this privilege during tests or quizzes. In preparing this report, paper and online tools were utilized.
