2015 Democratic Debate For the democratic debate of 2015 there was a total of 5 candidates; they were Hillary Clinton, Martin 0’Malley, Bernie Sanders, Jim Webb, and Lincoln Chafe. Throughout the debate each candidate would give his or her positions and policies that would take on different obstacles throughout their presidency if elected. The first to speak at the debate was Lincoln Chafe who addressed the inequality of wages and income. His overall plan was to narrow the income gap between the various classes. He next brought up the subject of climate change, which he acknowledged as a incredible threat to us and our planet. Next was Martin O’ Malley. He strongly believes that Obama has done a decent job while in office and he is a big supporter. However he believes there was more that could have been on the issue of economic injustice. Next to speak was candidate Jim Webb. He strongly declared that his highest priority in office would be the working class people, who he believes make a real difference in our society and deserve to be acknowledged more. Candidate Bernie Sanders firmly believes the 1% has corrupted the political system with it’s overpowering influence and overwhelming amounts of money to pick and chose their favorites for office to only benefit themselves, leaving the lower classes out to dry with their problems unsolved. His next major focus was climate change and how fossil fuels contribute to our bad climate and he would like to find more suitable replacement for our environment and our country. He also is a strong supporter of education and the youth of America, he believes that we are doing an injustice to our educations programs by not spending enough money is those departments. He believes we need to shift our focus towards our future generations. Last was Senator Hillary Clinton, who believes in the creation of more jobs, putting the unemployed to work. Her plan on achieving this is by investing in a stong infrastructure and cleaner energy. She also is a strong believer in increasing wages, specifically minimum wage, appealing to college/ young workers and the lower class. She believes in a balance of taxes, while the 1% pay too little and the lower classes pay too much. As a women, Hillary Clinton will be facing more challenges in the now and in the future, than her other fellow candidates. These challenges include sexism and female stereotypes such as not being tough enough, to being taken seriously, being overly emotional/dramatic, and irrational thinking. Unfortunately most Americans do not support her due to the fact that she is a women; now she must overcome these incredible odds to be the first women president.

Debate Strategies

...Mark Barry Analysis 10/6/12 Debates are a key element of presidential campaigns, and their large audience gives them a huge potential for influence. Much of this audience needs the mass media’s interpretation to make the debates fully meaningful. Debates tend to devote little time to the issues but the actual content to apply time to the candidates’ personalities, the process that led them to the debate, and the candidates’ preparation for the debate, leaving viewers at a loss for key issue information. These questions establish just how much influence the media has in short term perceptions, camera angles, winner and long-term perceptions of the candidates’ credibility. Romney came off as the more energized candidate overall by consistently attacking Obama on the main issues for Republicans such as health care reform and higher taxes. The president began with long explanations and only later focused more on what his opponent was saying. The split-screen shot, which has long feared presidential candidates, no matter how many times they are reminded, seem to sometimes forget that they are still on camera even when they are not speaking. Last week, President Obama did not put on a neutral face. A neutral face is a warm but settle expression that expresses no hint of feeling no matter what. President Obama was often shown looking down and uncertain as Mitt Romney was attacking and pressuring him. Obama demonstrated that he can get stuck in the fine print, unable to prioritize...

English Biased Paper

...Richard Bailey Assignment: Looking for Everyday Bias and Persuasion Due Date: 08/11/2015 Donald Trump: Gender and Racially Biased Comments Donald Trump is using racially biased comments to increase his political candidate ratings. Is this just a political joke or is he taking this seriously in terms of furthering himself in the political gains for the position of President of the United States. Back in May 2015, Donald Trump made a comment that made headlines in regards to Mexican immigrants in the United States stating, “Mexico send immigrants to this country who are criminals, including rapists!” 80% of the Latinos voters had considered this comment by Donald Trump to be offensive. But the question is at hand, who is Donald Trump siding with to make these comments? Who is Donald Trump trying to persuade to vote him into office by making such comments? Is he making enough stir in the political polls to actually better his chances to run as the Republican nominee for President? Unfortunately, he is actually pulling a strong lead for the 2016 Republican Presidential Nomination. The National Republican Polls shows that Donald Trump is in the lead with 24.3 votes, over Jeb Bushs’ 12.5 votes. Who is the audience that he is trying to rise up with? These questions are at the very heart of the matter when it comes to Donald Trump controversial campaign. 2016 Republican Presidential Nomination National: GOP, Dem | Iowa: GOP, Dem | New Hampshire: GOP, Dem | South Carolina:...

...2015 Presidential Candidate Debate For the first democratic primary debate of 2015, a lot can be said about this year’s upcoming election. Anderson cooper, who is well known for appearing as a talk show host on CNN, was the debates moderator. The democratic candidates included: secretary of state Hilary Clinton, Vermont senator Bernie Sanders, Maryland Governor Martin O’ Malley, Harvard law professor Lawrence Lessig, and Rhode Island governor Lincoln Chaffee. From the beginning to the end, Cooper posed various questions to give the candidates, in relations to controversial issues that are prevalent in the United States. Although there were fine presidential candidates, the focus was primarily on the two leading democratic candidates, Hilary Clinton and Bernie Sanders. When Clinton was asked about her stance on guns control, she passionately expressed that gun control should be very strict for U.S citizens. However, Sanders states that there should be some type of gun control, unlike Clinton; Clinton had stated in the debate, “Sanders is immune to the gun industry”. Another topic that was addressed was the access to private Internet servers for email. This topic up for discussion was strictly agreed towards Clinton herself. Before Clinton was able to discuss in detail about this topic, Sanders expressed that this “issue” was simply irrelevant compared to the other serious problems this country is facing. Other topics included national security threat, black...

Immigration Debate

...Courtney Middlebrook November 24, 2015 Humanities 1101 Professor Sanders Discussion 4 & 5 The Immigration Debate 1. Why is the proposal to deport 11 million immigrants considered un-American? Response: According to former Florida Governor, Jeb Bush, the proposal to deport 11 million immigrants would not be possible. Bush stated that deporting 11 million immigrants would not be as embracing of the American values. In his exact words, “It would tear communities apart and would send the wrong signals about America.” While researching and reading the transcript of this debate I felt a sense of political efficacy in regards to the topic on immigration. I am a hard-working American citizen and I have always had mixed feelings about immigrants living here. I believe the real issue lies in the fact that there are more illegal immigrants than there are legal and the ones that are legal are waiting in line who have as presidential candidate, Donald Trump stated, “gone through the process” to get to the United States. The other candidates as well as some American citizens would view the deportation force as un-American because America has always been a “with open-arms” country to willingly let people in to find a better lifestyle for their children and families. Therefore, with all of that being said, to forcefully deport 11 million immigrants back and tear up communities and families would be considered “un-American” but it is something that just has to be done if we want...

Media Influence On Election Essay

...happened in the case of Donald Trump, when he won the Republican primary votes. Prior to the Republican primary votes Trump had received too much media coverage compared to other presidential candidates, which eventually led to his unexpected victory in the race for the Republican presidential nomination. The media’s rules of an election change the face of the election itself. From my experience of watching the debates, I would say that each channel of media has its own bias. For example Fox news is known as the conservative cable network while MSNBC as the liberal one. Nowadays, it is almost impossible to hear story or news coverage without some twist. In the current election, the media has been (either intentionally or not) biased about the Republican presidential nomination. They had been an unlikely ally for Donald Trump, fueling his campaign with plenty of media coverage and attention. Itay Hod (2015) writing for The Wrap says, “ Trump has rack up tremendous amount of free media, taking all the oxygen out of the room, while other candidates are having trouble getting noticed and paid media would be a part of that process.’’ Throughout this election we have seen candidates spending huge amount of money just for TV ads. And over past years this has increased like never seen before; presidential candidates like Jeb Bush has spent almost close to 100 million dollars on TV and Radio Ads, and Marco Rubio spent 70 million dollars on TV and Radio Ads. There is a huge gap between...

Statisical Analysis-Presidential Candidates

...7020 Class Project Does The Taller Presidential Election Candidate Have an Advantage? A Statistical Analysis of Voting Bias Toward Taller Presidential Election Candidates Jared Causey Online MBA Student E.J. Ourso College of Business Louisiana State University Baton Rouge, LA Abstract After analyzing each presidential election in United States history, a Texas Tech University researcher concluded that a slight bias toward taller presidential candidates exists among the voting population. His claim was based on the theory that through evolution, humans developed a bias toward taller and stronger leaders due to their ability to provide protection. The researcher purports that this bias still exists. In order to test his theory, I collected data regarding candidate height from every United States presidential election with such information readily available. Of the 53 presidential elections at issue, I found the proportion of elections won by the taller candidate to be slightly above 50 percent, suggesting that there is, in fact, a bias toward the taller candidate. Introduction Research suggests that throughout modern and ancient cultures, selection of leaders with more dominant physical traits is prevalent. However, the collective process that leads a voter to choose one candidate over another in a presidential election can depend on a number of variables. Is it then equally likely for a presidential candidate shorter than his opponent to be elected...

Ethical Dilemma

...Ethical Dilemma CJA 324 June 29, 2015 Ethical Dilemma According to Your dictionary (1996-2015) an ethical dilemma is defined as a situation where someone must make a choice between two or more options, all of which will result in a negative outcome. Today we are faced with many ethical dilemmas that force us to examine the situation and surrounding events in depth to discover a better way of doing things. One such ethical dilemma is the legal age to vote in elections. The Constitution The twenty-sixth Amendment to the Constitution guarantees every American “the right of citizens of the United States, who are eighteen years of age or older, to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of age” (The National Constitution Center, n.d.). In America the legal adult age is considered 18 years. As an adult, an 18 year old will pay taxes on income he or she has earned. They pay sales tax on items they have purchased. They are old enough to drive a car and to join the military. These are the arguments many have given in favor of lowering the voter legal age form 18 years to 16 years, but there is another side to the story – one of opposition to lowering the age and in favor of returning the legal age to voting rights to 21 years of age as originally set forth by the United States Constitution. The United States Constitution was adopted in 1789, at which time voting was reserved for male property owners ages 21 and older...

Persuasive Essay On Social Media

...Renren, Taobao, etc. – of popular social media websites such as Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter have been set up so that online interactions and information can be more controlled and monitored by the state (Iosifidis, 2011). There have also been, at times, concerns about censorship of social media in Western countries. After the September 11th, 2011 attacks on the United States, panic brought about the quick passing of the Patriot Act, which gave the United States government and law enforcement greater surveillance and investigation powers. Unchecked power to search through personal Internet usage and private social media accounts (without warning or need of a warrant) allowed the United States government to become a “big brother” (ACLU, 2015). Many individuals living in the United States became fearful of posting certain opinions on social media, knowing that the government was always watching (Cohen, 2012). While not a direct censorship, this subtle threat was a restriction on the freedom of speech of many during that...

Argument Essay

...Amanda Guzman July 23, 2015 EWS 19 President’s Authority The article “Presidential Power” by Christina L. Lyons represents a dispute that Congress is having with President Obama believing that he is overstepping his authority with executive power. To begin with, Republicans are making accusations saying that Obama is accusing Obama for abusing the Constitution and Democrats are defending him by saying he’s taking action because Congress is taking long to respond. Many presidents have overstepped the boundaries of using executive power to accomplish policy goals. But the debate over executive power has been building up over the years and has led a conflict between Republicans and Democrats. Between the Judicial, Legislative and Executive branch there has been a great gridlock with no one coming to an agreement. Due to the gridlock the conflict between Republicans and Presidential power has been a battle. Eventually, both sides will have to come to some sort of a compromise, whether a law comes into place of presidents having a limit to executive power. (Lyons, 2015, p. 219) During President Obama’s presidency, he has exceeded his power of enforcing executive orders over 210 times. That’s an average of 33 executive orders a year issued by President Obama alone. Executive orders are unbreakable legal orders given by the President to Federal Administrative Agencies. This power allows the president to create laws or determine how existing laws should be carried out. President...

Leadership Styles of Mitt Romney V. Barack Obama

...When comparing and contrasting the leadership styles of Mitt Romney and Barack Obama, it is important to note the differences in leadership/management and communication styles. Looking to each leader in the context of their organization we know that Mitt Romney was the running Presidential candidate for the Republican Party and Barack Obama was the Presidential candidate for the Democratic Party that went on to win the Presidency for two terms. In this paper I will discuss the differences in each leaders communication style and how it affects their organizations, how it determines the differences between managers and leaders, how they use verbal/nonverbal communication styles to influence their followers and others around them, and what communication styles contribute to them being judged as a “good” or “bad” leader. Both Mitt Romney and Barack Obama take strategic approaches while attempting to get support from their distinct organizations. An example of this was during their campaign speeches in 2012. In an article by the Huffington Post it describes Romney talking mortality or a conservative style while Obama talks mainly policy. It also describes Romney’s framing as being more moral, simple, and straightforward while Obama’s style is policy-oriented, filled with numbers, details, and proposals. This gives a clear distinction as to which political party each candidate belongs to based on the assumptions that generally, republicans are seen as more conservative (socially and...

Group Analysis

...Group Debate Analysis Paper Kenneth McDougald XBCOM/275 April 12, 2015 Lorelle Davies Group Debate Analysis Paper There are many benefits associated with group debates, but there are also many drawbacks. Let us talk about some benefits first. Different perspectives are brought into play when there is a group involved. These perspectives tend to yield more information especially when they are coming from different positions of the argument. Diversity in the group can add to these different perspectives. Someone who was raised in an upper class family in the suburbs would have different experiences and views than someone from an impoverished inner city area. Debating in groups can also improve one’s communication skills. It also gives the debaters the opportunity to show off there listening skills. If one cannot properly listen to the arguments being presented or the questions being asked it will be difficult to present an argument that is substantive. Communication is something that is important in many aspects of business and personal communication. It is important to be able to communicate eloquently and respectfully. Part of respect is self control. Controlling one’s emotions in a debate is the best way to be taken seriously. There are also a few drawbacks to group debates and many of us have seen them first hand. Political debates are a great example. How many times have you seen a presidential primary debate with 4 candidates get away from...
