Ripen Apple Company is a apple grower in Florida. RAC want to determine the effectiveness and efficiency of its organizational structure, the selection and maintenance of managerial personnel. The reason, inter Preliminary Data Gathering
Our consultant completed interviews within the organization and research was conducted of the produce industry. Ripen Apple Company has been in operation for 15 years during which it as grown at a rate of about 5% per year. Cost have remained the same for the first 10 years of existence, but have grown by 2.5-4% over the past 3 years. Reasons cited by the company included unexpected temperature drop, pests, and increased labor costs. Management has been promoted from within the company but over the past year, several long-term personnel have left, because they felt that they had no future with the company. Although the company is faced with these problems, they are gearing themselves for increased growth through possible expansion of the business.
RAC should attempt to ground quality management within the desired pattern of the company’s organizational structure and identify specific connections between the type of organizational structure and its effectiveness to the company as a whole. The organizational structure needs to be more flexible at Ripen Apple Company because there is a lack of communication between production and operations by enhancing technology used by the company as a whole. The retention is high across all levels of staff, management and the frontline employees.
The connection between structure and its effectiveness suggest that RAC may need to examine their current organizational structure in terms of the extent of decision making. RAC’s organizational structure need to institutionalize how people interact with each other, how communication flows and how power relationships are defined (Hall, 1987). The
