...1. The risks of choosing De Walt as the Brand for B&D’s battle in the professional tradesmen segment are related to customer perceptions and competitor activity. On the customer side, B&D cannot predict how the customers will react in Industrial and consumer home use segments. In the Industrial segment the risk is smaller due to knowledgeable professional buyers making the product choice. But for the “do it yourself” –man, current B&D offering in Tradesmen segment means choosing a product that a professional might use. With this reference gone, the perceived value for the home user could be reduced. Thus an increased market share in tradesmen segment could hurt profits in the lower segment. The extent of this is unknown and effects on revenue are difficult to forecast. Secondly, though the brand recognition and the positive perception of De Walt brand exists, there is no certainty of the time needed to gain true market acceptance. The broadening of De Walt product offering into power tools in this segment could in the early stages lead customers to choose a competitor product instead. Whether the expectation can be delivered in a reasonable time is an unknown factor. The strategy does not address the issue of strong competitor position in certain distributor channels. For instance the Membership clubs and Two-Step channels is dominated by Makita and the position could be defended by the competitor. On other competitor related risks, one could mention pricing power...

...and her faith. 2. To what extent is Aunt Mary the cause of her own problems? Aunt Mary is very reserved and secretive, and it could be her secretiveness that ruined her relationship with her nephew. There was nothing wrong with him reading the letters, but since she has so much to hide, it hurt her and made her exaggerate an issue that cause the ending to a good relationship between the two. 3. In what ways does the exaggeration of the nephew reading the private letters, show that Aunt Mary is still not over her lover? When Aunt Mary calls the nephew dirt, the audience can see that she is not over her lover because this reminder of him seems to irk her and make her angry. She can’t get over the betrayal she felt, so she takes out her anger the nephew and lashes out on him, because she might actually still love this man and hates the reminder of it. 4. Discuss the importance of the imagery in “Secrets”. The imagery in “Secrets” allows us to dig deeper into characters personalities and allow us to see how relationships are torn apart. For example, Aunt Mary is seen to be very reserved through imagery. 5. Comment closely on the language used to describe Aunt Mary. The language...

...Alexander Keyssar’s Reminders of Poverty, Soon Forgotten Amanda Collier ENG/215 September 3, 2012 Bruce Massis In this writing the classical principles of argumentation – Ethos, Pathos, and Logos will be observed as it is used in “Reminders of Poverty, Soon Forgotten by Alexander Keyssar.” These arguments are used to persuade the reader to think that the writer’s ideas are the best ideas. Before going into whether or not Keyssar used these principles in his writing, it is important to understand what each of the three principles mean. In the principle of Ethos, or ethical appeal, it is used to persuade the audience or reader of the authors creditability. The Merriam-Webster dictionary describes Ethos as “the distinguishing character, sentiment, moral nature, or guiding beliefs of a person, group, or institution”. Ethos is using language that appeals to the topic and to the readers by using the correct vocabulary. This makes the author more crediable and evenhanded so that the readers believe the writers point of view. Pathos principle, emotion, is used to win over a reader by using their emotional convictions. Merriam-Webster describes this one as using pity or compassion. The author tries to persuade the reader emotionally to feel the same way they do and to identify with the author’s opinion. The principle of Logos is logical; this appeals the reader’s logic and reasoning. The author uses ways to make the reader think of the explanation...

Lassiter COM170 August 28, 2012 Christina Wilson Dogs vs. Cats In 1988, a survey was conducted to determine the percentage of pets of the US households at the time owned a pet, compared to the 63 percent of present day households that own a pet, with 45 percent owning more than one pet. As you comb through your pet's coat to remove surface dirt, you can easily check for those nasty seasonal tagalongs, fleas and ticks. (Moore, A. (2004). Brush Up on Your Grooming Skills. Prevention, 56(8), 176-178). For dogs, Fill the sink or tub with lukewarm water to a depth that just wets your pet's feet and give him time to get used to the water .( Moore, A. (2004). Brush Up on Your Grooming Skills. Prevention, 56(8), 176-178) Use a shampoo formulated for dogs and work from the feet up, lathering his head last. (Moore, A. (2004). ...The claim that the article is trying to make is that as a society we are not interested in helping our fellow man that is less fortunate than us but there just so happens to be ample evidence to the contrary. In the opening to the article poverty soon forgotten Keyssar describes the scenes from post hurricane Katrina of people walking down flooded streets carrying garbage bags with very few possessions he proceeds to outline the lack of response in helping the under privileged get out of the city. The question stands though does government mismanagement of a particular situation prove a societal disinterest in helping our fellow man. Since the mid 1960’s America has spent more than 22 trillion dollars on the issue of poverty in America if the money had not been spent on the programs to deal with poverty the country may not have the 17 trillion dollar debt that we now enjoy. Keyssar argues that in the aftermath of major events that American journalist were quick to outline the plight of the American under privileged stuck in the superdome in New Orleans but they were just as quick to move on to other things that happened just after such as the gulf oil spill and hurricane Rita. Although, “monetary donations were way below the records set by the tsunami and 9/11 relief efforts in the U.S., The U.S. did receive international assistance from numerous countries. The National Disaster Medical System had activated essentially all team in the country, and pre-staged multiple Disaster...

...of the most difficult habits to break. Many people start smoking when they are teenagers and can't seem to give it up even in their old age. Even though the deadly risks such as lung cancer, peripheral vascular disease, heart disease, heart attack, cerebrovascular disease and strokes are closely associated with smoking, many people still struggle to beat it. When an individual is in the fight of their life to quit smoking, there are certain triggers that are important to really avoid. Consider these triggers. 1. ...‘Of Mice and Men’ serves as a reminder that dreaming is futile. How far do you agree with this representation of the text and its key themes? To first answer the question we need to define a key element, what are dreams? When we dream we contemplate the possibility of doing something or indulging in fantasies about something greatly desired. Yet they are necessary to keep the levels of hope high in people to stand for what they believe in whether it be the inadequacies of society or something else. Furthermore without incorporating dreams and having something to achieve in our life will result in an endless stream of days that have little connection or meaning. The representation of dreams occurs via prejudice and stereotypes- Crooks, because he is black in a racist culture- seems to be no hope for him; Curley’s wife, only woman on the farm and regarded as a tart- will never feel wanted, another hopeless situation; Candy, one-handed- can’t do the same work as the others and is old- can’t socialize with anyone, lonely and isolated. These situations give reason for dreaming as it becomes a paradise for those who wish for something more in their life and acts as a beacon of hope yet over time dreams either materialize or they question reality and in the book no one achieves or has achieved their dream- Lennie and George, Curley’s wife and Curley. Dreams will always be a source of hope but if they are not achieved you begin to realise that they are futile which is why to some extent...

Within this research I would disseminate the new scientific knowledge with the help of the pharmaceutical company that makes the congestive heart failure medication. With the help and support of the pharmaceutical maker, I would provide a full in-service to the nursing staff of hospitals and doctor’s offices alike. In doing this, this would provide a friendly and educational atmosphere in a nursing practice setting to get complete understanding of the research findings and how they as nurses can make a difference in the consumption of prescribed medication. Secondly, I would write a journal article and have it published in the pharmaceutical’s bulletin to include a well-known nursing journal. These journal articles would contain the findings of the research and suggestions on how the nursing staff can help the patients improve the compliance of taking prescribed medication. Once the information is disseminated into the medical public, the nurses will apply the learned knowledge to their practice for the elderly patients who are taking congestive heart failure medication.
