As the days go by, valuable information is released out to the public and thanks to technology; we can access that information faster. Gadgets such as laptops, tablets and smart phones, have allowed us to just type in a few words, click one or two buttons and bam! I am now up to date on today’s news. This is more efficient as I don’t have to wait for a certain time to watch the news on the television or hear it on the radio. Information that can be found in the library can also be found on the internet, which makes researching less of a hassle. Now, I don’t have to go to the library and try to find a book that has little or no information on the topic I am researching. Technology has now made researching faster and more efficient by having the information in one “page” or website. As we gather this information we can also share them with other people through emails, social network and through our smart phones. ...Looking back at this fantastic journey, I cannot help but think that this class and its assignments have been important tools for improving not only my writing skills but also –and especially—my thinking skills. This class taught me a method for thinking and writing. While looking at the critical research reflection I cannot help but think of the word “reflect? “Since the beginning of this class, I had to reflect on course texts, reflect on the sources, reflect on personal experience, and reflect on peer reviews and discussion posts. Dr. ND asked me to reflect on my writing and to think carefully, especially before making a decision or reaching a conclusion. Why the word "reflect" is so important? What does it mean, "to reflect”? The philosopher Locke said that the act of reflection is characterized by mental acts of doubt, believe, think, have emotions, and feelings (Locke). I believe that my final research paper is an essay that has all the characteristics described by Locke. The final project includes feelings, personal experience, thoughts, doubts, questions, answers, and reasoning....

...My Personal Writing Process Maya James COM/170 September 8, 2014 John Samar Abstract Writing has always been a challenge for me since grammar school and all the way to my senior year in high school. In the past, when I was writing any type of paper, formal or informal I tend to be all over the place (no direction), which can cause confusion among readers. It was much different from the writing process that is discussed in the book because I did not follow the important rules of writing. Just by starting this class and I have already learned so much about the proper way of writing and the techniques to improve my writing skills. Moving forward, I plan on using the important rules that will prevent me from making the mistakes I made in the past. I am able to follow the prewriting process to help me in organizing and developing my ideas. Prewriting works for me because I love researching information, writing different ideas, and sharing my thoughts in developing topics that will catch the reader’s attention. Then, I create an outline to organize my main ideas into small sub ideas that will describe, explain, and support the main topic. Once I finish the outline then I organize my ideas and write a rough draft of my topic using my own words to make it more personal and relatable to my reader. The next process is to edit or proof read, and then revise my rough draft by improving the sentences, creating a structure, and to make sure the content is clear and concise. So far...

...The differences between the writing processes I have read for this class would probably be that now I have to start brainstorming, free writing, researching, and editing. Whereas, before I would just write a paper and proofread it then correct the mistakes that I feel would need to be change and turn it in. It also has different structures and dynamic of the process. The easiest step for me to complete in the writing process would be step one: Prewriting. The reason that step one is easiest for me is because I like to just free write. When I am free writing I am usually able to answer the 5w’s and 1h. This would help me understand what I am writing about. Editing would probably be the most difficult for me. Editing is difficult because when I am finish writing it’s kind of hard for me to go back and proofread and see the mistakes that I have made. The reason for it begin hard for me is because I write like I talk. For me to become a more effective writer I would do a research on how to edit papers. While researching how to edit I would take notes and apply it to my paper while I am editing. What are three specific strategies you might use to overcome these obstacles to become a more effective academic writer? Write something every day. This instruction may be the most irritating piece of advice that writers receive, but it is the most practical to implement. Daily writing keeps your diction and style in good repair. Writers and writing websites will give different pieces...
