Failure can often find itself as a difficult thing for many to accept as some view failure as a sign of weakness. I have always been a firm believer that what matters most is not if you get knocked down, but whether you get back up. From my time as a resident assistant, I have had my successes, but I have also experienced failure. One failure that I believe was distinct for my growth as a resident assistant dealt with an unbefitting call that I made to the Head of Hall on call while on duty. In the beginning of my resident assistant career while on duty one night, I found a stolen dish from the Schott Dining Hall, covered in a dried substance, in a stairwell. Unsure of the exact protocol for a situation such as this aforementioned one, I called

Principles of Health and Social Care

...As a health and social care practitioner it is important to have a clear understanding of the theories that underpin health and social care, understand the legalities and policies and be aware of the situation that you work within. This allows care staff to provide adequate care to the service users and allow them to feel safe knowing that they are being protected against any harm whilst protecting yourself. Social processes, such as poverty, unemployment, and disability, can impact users of health and social care services. When assisting service users it is important to have an understanding and a knowledge of various structures. Individuals that are born into poverty more than likely come from a lower socio-economic background or area and have a higher rate of being unemployed, lowering their chance opportunity. Unemployment may contribute to a person becoming poor as they might have lost a job that they already held. Mental and physical disabilities can also have an impact on unemployment as an individual may not have the same opportunities as someone who is more able. This may be the situation if an individual is either born with a disability or acquires one in later life. Poverty, unemployment and disabilities can have severe impacts on a person’s life, including depression, drug or alcohol addictions or abuse, homelessness or may lead to some mental health issues. In some cases a service user might have previous history or emotional poverty and/or domestic violence or...

Case Study Analysis Paper

...Case Study Analysis Paper Frieda Asep Johnson COMM215 August 11, 2014 Mark Polanzak Case Study Analysis Paper Timeline Scheduling: A New Recruiter’s Placement of New Recruits As a well established textile company, ABC, Inc. has a long standing tradition in assigning job placement staff to surrounding colleges at the end of each semester. It is a means of recruiting the best candidates for employment upon graduation. Also new to our staff, Carl Robins, a Recruiter of six months in the Personnel department, has demonstrated a great capacity for succeeding in his role. Moreover, to safeguard and promote the standards maintaining personnel hiring policies, our organizational workflows have been put in place to systematically or chronologically cluster-link processes with staff, resources, and state of the art technology to complete diverse tasks. After a close examination, indicators strongly suggest discontinuity in the process threatening adverse affects upon expected outcomes. In such an event, repercussions would be exhibited in a dominos effect throughout the company to greater or lesser degree; but the individual(s) responsible to oversee the campaign success, would be held to higher accountability. How vitally important, then, it is to observe with an eye towards turning the well established premise that preparing for complete failure can be traced back to failing to completely prepare—albeit, unintentionally. In his duties, Carl has the unique charge...

Shortage of Doctors in Rural Areas

...shortage of physicians in rural America calls for immediate attention and change, as the inadequate supply of physicians is affecting the quality of patient care. The life expectancy of persons living in rural America is actually declining due to treatable conditions such as diabetes, cancer, heart disease and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. These illnesses could be managed with proper medical treatment. This paper addresses these issues and recommends two solutions. Healthcare is in crisis in many countries, not least of which is the United States. We hear on the news how health care providers are unable to provide medical care to an increasing number of chronically ill and the aging population. There are a number of systemic failures, none is more difficult to correct than the basic lack of human resources. There are simply not enough physicians to service the needs of the population. The problem is intensified in rural areas, where specialized physicians may not be found within several hundred miles. The healthcare system needs a way to do more with less and stretch a limited amount of resources to work more efficiently. Many people living in rural America have inadequate access to medical care. “While about 20 percent of the U.S. population lives in rural areas, rural physicians comprise only about 10 percent of the total number of working physicians in the country” (U.S. Public Health Service, para 21,...

Erik Piterson

...Erik Peterson Leadership Case Analysis October 21, 2010 Heather Adams Bob Ciccolella Kevin Lamparter Borey Pek Fact Pattern Erik Petersen, an MBA graduate from Dartmouth College, was hired seven months earlier as the General Manager of Green Mountain Cellular Telephone (GMCT) in Hanover, New Hampshire. Peterson had a B.S. in electrical engineering from MIT and was an officer in the U.S. Army Signal Corps. His interest in the cellular field had grown for the last several years. When hired by Jenkins, the founder of the CelluComm, Peterson thought he would be working directly with Jenkins. However, he would instead be reporting to Hardy, the Director of Budgets and Plans. Like Peterson, Hardy had no experience in the start-up project or the cellular field. Considered to be profitable, GMCT was one of three pre-operating systems being built by CelluComm and expected to serve about 400,000 people. GMCT was in the construction phase for one and half years before Peterson started and was still in the start-up stage. GMCT was to operate 21 cell sites; 16 sites were anticipated to be ready by the turn-on date and five others in the eight months following. By March, GMCT was one month behind target and its turn-on-date had been revised from February 1st to April 1st. When he arrived to Hanover, Peterson convinced the corporate office to terminate the contract with the construction subcontractor due to poor performance. He then hired a...

Case Study Analysis Hcs 588

...Case Study Analysis The complex and dynamic realm of health care has generated a need to focus on cultural change to improve health care quality. To overcome a decade of difficulties and implement a program for improving their quality, the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth (UNTHSC) began a journey to change the culture of their organization. Using the change model the new president initiated measures to revise the quality improvement program and strategies for meeting regulatory and accreditation standards. Many barriers interfered with the process but actions were executed to overcome these obstacles (Ransom, Joshi, Nash, & Ransom, 2008). This paper will describe the cultural change journey of UNTHSC through unfreezing their old culture and laying the foundation for a new culture of quality. Measures to Monitor and Revise Quality Program Implementation The measures used to monitor and revise quality program implementation foster changing the organizational structure of an institution. The UNTHSC at Forth Worth decided to institute cultural changes as a form of monitoring and influencing the change process. The initial element of the measurement process incorporated administrative, academic, clinical practice, research application, financial elements, and community goals. A baseline measure was associated with current levels of operations. The management team was held accountable in regard to focusing on four areas of measurement...

Patho-Pharm

...Pathopharmacological Foundations for Advanced Nursing Practice Competency Assessment WUT Task 1 Pamela L. Taylor RN-C(OB), BSN Western Governors University June 2016 A. Disease Process For the purpose of discussion of pathopharmacological features of a specific disease process, this paper will provide information related to heart disease in the form of coronary artery disease (CAD). A1. Pathophysiology Analysis Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the number one cause of mortality worldwide and becoming a steadily more investigated problem due to its prevalence. Much research is going into genetic, inflammatory mechanisms and neuro-hormonal factors related to CVD as scientific knowledge evolves regarding complexity of this broad pathophysiology. Atherosclerosis is the leading cause of the subsection of CVD called CAD. This is a form of arteriosclerosis where there is progressive thickening and hardening of the vessel walls of the two major coronary arteries and their branches. The thickening is an accumulation of lipid-laden macrophages inside the wall of the artery leading to the formation of lesions and plaque buildup (McCance, K. & Huether, S., 2014). When the plaque develops on the coronary artery walls the pumping ability of the heart becomes impaired as oxygen and nutrients needed for heart function may be partially or completely impeded. Complete occlusion of a coronary artery or one of its branches leads to a myocardial...

Primary Care

...Primary Care Practices: Their Nature and Importance for the Future of Healthcare Bryan White MGMT 5530 Physician Practice Management November 2015 Abstract The practice of medicine has seen a lot of changes in the last century. In the 1960s, more change was happening than the Cultural Revolution in the United States. Specialized medicine was starting to take shape, altering the size and scope of general practice. From this, there have been unintended consequences to how primary care is practiced. While congress passed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act in 2010 to reform healthcare, it was more concerned about tackling health insurance and did little to address the issues facing primary care. This piece is designed to give the reader a look into how the general practice of health care has changed over time, the challenges it still faces, and the resources that could provide the solutions. Main Composition Throughout history, mankind has made leaps and bounds to advance the practice of medicine. Many of these improvements have happened within the last century. When it comes to the practice of generalized medicine, these advances have altered its shape size, scope, and structure. In the United States, there have been some consequences to these changes in primary care that, if the right adjustments or corrections are not made, could be detrimental to healthcare delivery. General Medicine in the Past It would be best to begin with just how the general...
