Rio Bravo Iv

...Executive Summary: The report of the plant manager for RIO BRAVO IV, a subsidiary of Packed Electrical a division of General Motors identifies mistakes made by top management. These mistakes clearly indicate top management failure to use project management principles in starting up a new manufacturing branch. It also points out the learning outcomes when good efforts are placed at the right places and with the right human talent employed. In the new economy organizations have to focus on the customer, environment and its resources and change their approach in doing business (paradigm shift). Senior management has to give clear goals and utilize the Total Quality Management (TQM) philosophy. Failure by top managed clearly state the objective of the project meant that it had no master plan and schedule. When the project was initiated the objective was to gain worldwide respect not to satisfy a customer and let the respect follow as an outcome. Top management failure is more evident through lack of proper feasibility study on the location and the customer getting customer Users Requirements Specifications (URS). There was no plan in place as such the project team did not exist at all. The machines were hastily installed; lay out set as per other factories not designed to cater for this customer. The location was never considered as what effect it might cause to the customer. Top management did not address the diversity issue an as a result communication was hampered by language...

Rio Bravo Dramaturg Essay

...filmes elbeszélés | Rio Bravo | dramaturgiai és narrációs elemzése | | 2011.05.26. | A félév végi szemináriumi dolgozat témájához én Howard Hawks: Rio Bravo című filmjét választottam. Minden filmnek megvan a maga dinamikája, ezáltal meghatározódik a sebessége is.

Reality Tv

...1) The three texts are all about reality television, and how far the boundaries can be pushed for the highest viewer ratings. Text 2: “When Reality TV Gets Too Real” is written by Jeremy W peters. The text is focusing on whether it’s the television station and the team behind the cameras that have the responsible for actions the participants may do to themselves or others such as a crime, while participating on the show. The show Intervention running on A&E is a great example of how the boundaries have been pushed. The show is about the life of those who suffer from addiction and their family. People on the edge make good television and therefore will the people behind the show push the boundaries as far as possible. Situations in these kinds of shows can get out of hand and the participants can become a danger to themselves or others, here is the question asked when is the crew obligated to step out from behind the camera and intervene. The crew is looked at as witnesses and by the law in the United States, witnesses are not obligated to step in and save people or stop a crime. Intervention’s creator Sam Mettler says “This is their life with me or whiteout me”. To make a case, the accusing party must have proof that the subjects were put in danger by a situation created from the programs side. Mr. Mettler has stepped up and stopped participants from harming themselves or others. The A&E senior vice president assures that if a person is in immediate danger, then that’s...

Foursquare Research

...PowerPoint Purpose The partnership hopes to engage viewers long after they turn off the television, close their laptops and stop watching Bravo’s TV shows. How they do it Bravo would start creating on-air TV promotions telling viewers how to play the Bravo-enhanced features of Foursquare. Bravo will begin offering Foursquare players “badges” and special prizes when viewers visit more than 500 Bravo locations. The locations will be picked by Bravo to correspond with select Bravo shows including “The Real Housewives,” “The Millionaire Matchmaker,” “Top Chef,” “Kell on Earth,” “Top Chef Masters” and “Shear Genius.” Zagat deal is interesting in that it goes beyond simply offering food and restaurant recommendations. The service plans to have a weekly web video series entitled “Meet The Mayor” in which they interview the Foursquare “mayor” of a restaurant in their guide. Example: The Foursquare page for the movie Valentine’s Day, those promoting the movie have added 50 “Romantic Tips” around the cities that the movie takes place in. Burberry

...BURBERRY 1. Bravo’s team has managed to elevate the overall status of the Burberry brand. How has it managed to accomplish this? Bravo’s goal was to transform Burberry from a tired outerwear into a luxury lifestyle brand that was aspirational, stylish and innovative. And she began by recruiting a top management team, who could succeed in a retail environment and also understand customers, price points and gaps. Together, they changed the brand’s name from Burberry’s to Burberry and introduced a contemporary logo and packaging. By repositioning the brand into “accessible luxury”, they could attract younger customers and, at the same time, retain its core base. The next step was to update the product line by slashing the number of SKUs and hiring a new design team, which was in charge of only three primary collections: womenswear, menswear and accessories. Bravo’s team also decided to raise prices and expand the brand portfolio with the label Prorsum, which was the best way to reinforce Burberry’s new positioning in the luxury market. To promote the new image, they hired Mario Testino, Fabien Baron and David Lipman, who were able to associate the brand with a more trend-conscious, modern look and also with its heritage. 2. Decisions include managing different brands, different collections, channels and licenses: what is the role of these different elements in the overall business model? The role of each decision was to have a consistent brand image: a perfect mix...

Hahrley

...Burberry’s competitive position sustainable over long term? Why or why not? a. When repositioning the brand, Bravo and her team noticed available niches between Polo Ralph Lauren/Giorgio Armani in apparel and Coach/Gucci in accessories (Moon, 2004). Relative to its competitors, Burberry is presented as ‘accessible luxury’ (Moon, 2004). Burberry’s new competitive positioning is seen as sustainable over long term. What separates Burberry from other luxury brands is the functional aspect—a trench coat that has a purpose (Moon, 2004). Burberry’s point of difference was to be aspirational, but also functional (Moon, 2004). Bravo described the brand’s current position as wedged between Ralph Lauren’s lifestyle and Gucci’s fashion (Moon, 2004). Not only are lifestyle and fashion brands competitors of Burberry, but companies like Target are competitors as well (Moon, 2004). This is due to people shopping everywhere; high-income people shopping at discount warehouses and middle-income people shopping at luxury retailers (Moon, 2004). Since Burberry is continuing to bring out innovative designs and products partnered with proper advertisements, its competitive positioning is sustainable over the long term. 2. The case notes that Bravo’s team has managed to elevate the overall status of Burberry’s brand. How has it managed to accomplish this? b. First and foremost, Bravo and her team knew that the next five years were going to be crucial (Moon, 2004). Bravo’s team set the goal...

Mexican-American War

...Kristine Sizemore American Intercontinental University Unit 4 Individual Project HIST105 – U.S. History May 26, 2013 Abstract The Mexican-American War, it was a war where the United States cemented itself as a world super power; however, that came at a cost. This paper explores the ups and downs of the Mexican-American War. Mexican Cession: 1848 (Mexican-American War) The Mexican Cession in 1848 or better known as the Mexican-American War was a war where Mexico gave most of their land to America. It was a quest for James L Polk, the president at the time to expand the United States westward toward the Pacific Ocean. Mexico was forced to give approximately one-third of their land away when the United States captured Mexico City. They were given two choices: the first one being lose all of Mexico to the United States because the United States had a much stronger military than Mexico. The second choice being to surrender the part of their land to the United States that the United States wanted. After much deliberation and very heated debates between Mexico and the United States, the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was signed in 1848 to finally end the war. The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, drafted by Nicholas Trist, stated that the United States was to pay Mexico a sum of $15 million in exchange for Mexican territory, that today are known as Texas, California, Colorado, Arizona, Utah, Nevada, Wyoming, and New Mexico. Also, the United States had to...

...Border Fence The Mexican border has been a controversial event for the past years. It has been constructed of several barriers that were intended to keep illegal Mexican immigrants from traveling across the border into the United States. Many people have debated that the border has harm the environment physically and economically. My opinion on the border fence is that the government of the United States should not waste money on making the border fence bigger and should focus on other important situations. The placement of the barriers was to keep illegal border crossings into the southwest part of the United States. The voices of the people have raised and claim that they are a drain on taxpayers’ money and more of a political gambit. They see the Mexico-unites states barriers as an ineffective production to illegal immigration that ultimately jeopardizes the safety and health of people seeking their homes and safety in the United States. As well as concerned about the environment and animal habitats. In the uninhabited areas of the border and urban areas is where drug-trafficking and illegal crossings have taken place. Crime has taken place in cities like El Paso, Texas and San Diego, California. Border patrol agents through a system of cameras and sensors monitor the border fences. In the last 13 years, over 5,000 migrant deaths occurred along the border according to documents from the human rights national commission of Mexico. In 2005 a representative Duncan...

Product Reassessment

...There are many factors to consider when re-positioning a phased out product. Segmentation, targeting, and positioning are important when identifying the specific target market that you will supply in order to sustain growth. The product that I have in mind to reposition is the MP3 player device. Apple already has MP3 players that have been very successful due to the increase in technology. Their products have ranged from 60 GB color screen iPods to the lower gig shuffle without a screen. These Mp3 players were great in their time however; due to an increase in technology, Americans wanted a gadget that was an all in one. This is where the popularity of iPhones, Androids, and other smart phones saturated the market. Users no longer prefer to carry around a MP3 device when they have newer more technical savvy gadgets. For example, the smart phone has given its consumer base the ability to have the same MP3 capabilities, internet usage, games options and more in one device. There is no longer a need to have stand-alone devices for different uses. In order to acquire the same concept as Apple I will need to thoroughly study my competitors target market approach. For instance, Sony and Samsung actually never reached the level of success that Apple has with their iPods, one reason being is that they did not analyze their pricing data to determine what target market would work best for them. Instead, they choose the same segmentation as Apple. Statistics show that Apple...

Maturation in John Grady

...sixteen year old boy running away from home in an attempt to start a new life. With the person he was closest to dead, and his mother selling the ranch he grew up on, John Grady leaves San Angelo with no regrets. This idea of detachment is reinforced throughout the book, but mostly in the latter half; it’s clear that John Grady feels no attachment to Texas or his family anymore, as he says, “I have no country” (p.299). He no longer has a sense of being; no sense of individualism. It's this sense of detachment McCarthy gives to further John Grady's character development. As All the Pretty Horses unravels, through the actions of Blevins and Perez, we see that book revolves around the maturation of John Grady. The crossing of the Rio Grande river is one of the first instances we truly see a change in John Grady's character. John Grady and Rawlins had just met thirteen-year-old Jimmy Blevins, a boy who acts as a FOIL character for the entirety of the book. At the river, John Grady and Rawlins debate whether or not they should let Blevins ride with them. For many reasons, Rawlins says no, however; John Grady can't bring himself to leave without him. (p.79) “Meanin just leave him?” “Yessir.” “…you realize the fix he's in?” “I realize it. It's the one he's put hisself in.” “…I can't do it.” Even though it meant re-routing his destination and eventually risking his life, John Grady stuck by Blevins’ side through thick and thin. Even though he and Rawlins...

Armando Montano and His Food

...biracial identity, he makes the bridge when he tries to eliminate his frustrations by using Mexican and American products to cook, and he feels more comfortable because ''I could make a food that doesn’t have to be Mexican or American'' (936). In his introduction, Montano refers to ‘’the earthy smell of boiling pinto beans’’ as something that apparently both sides of his family liked (936). Later in life, his experience in Argentina with cooking Mexican food for his friends helped him realize and gain confidence in his identity as a Mexican- American (940). Second, talking about Eagle Pass, Texas, Montano uses food to make a bridge between Mexican and American culture. It is the hometown of his dad. Eagle Pass is an American town by the Rio Grande River with Mexico. Montano describes a place where he usually goes, Mancha Meat Market and Bakery. They have a special which is ‘’barbacoa, slow-cooked beef,’’ and it ‘’had served as the Mancha family’s specialty for 70 years’’ (937).The bridge in this point is when...

General Taylor Swot Analysis

Driving from the front, sitting upright in the stirrups where every one of his troops could see him, he enlivened his fighters to have strength under flame. Amid a significant period at the skirmish of Buena Vista, when a key staff officer detailed the American line was going into disrepair, Taylor reacted by saying "I know it, however the volunteers don't have any acquaintance with it. Leave them be and see what they do" (n.d., 2016). In 1846, General Zachary Taylor assembled a stronghold on the Rio Grande inverse the Mexican town of Matamoros. In April, the Mexicans countered by sending a constrain of around 1600 cavalrymen over the Rio Grande where, on April 25, they overpowered a compel of 60 dragoons under U.S. Chief S. B. Thornton. The primary thrust of the case is qualitative rather than quantitative, but this model can be used to compare results under alternative allocation schemes. The model consists of a complete base case analysis--no changes need to be made to the existing MODEL-GENERATED DATA section. However, in the student version all values in the INPUT DATA section have been replaced with zeros. Thus, students must enter the appropriate values into the red cells that currently contain a zero or hyphen. When this is done, any error cells will be corrected and the base case solution will appear.
