...December 12th 2010 Mr. Swallows Service Request SR-rm-004 part2 Riordan Manufacturing human resources information system project has reached the end of the current systems analysis phase of the system development life cycle. The information gathering process has been completed and we must move on to the next step in our SDLC. Riordan’s executive management has made clear that they wish to make the system more efficient and secure. While conducting our analysis of the Riordan Manufacturing we found many issues that need to be addressed and several inefficiencies. We also found many security concerns that need to be addressed in the interest of the company and its personnel. Application architecture and process design Designing forms and reports is a user-focused activity that typically follows a prototyping approach (Dennis, Wixom, & Roth, Chapter 8, 2009). Prototypes may help to model desired behavior, design the user interface, or analyze resource utilization (Bass, Clements, & Kazman, Chapter 1, 2003). The analyst will take in to consideration the data we compiled during part one of the service request to design a prototype of the system. This prototype will be heavily based on the needs and goals of Riordan Manufacturing executive management and take in to account some of the input from the human resources department management and staff. We learned in part one of this service request that Riordan Manufacturing’s current system and practices are unsecure and inefficient...

...Running Head: Riordan Manufacturing SR-rm-004 Riordan Manufacturing Human Resources Information System By: Adrian O. University of Phoenix February 22, 2010 Abstract To identify, analyze and propose Riordan Manufacturing Human Resources (HR) Systems. In order for Riordan Manufacturing to be competitive in today’s market, it is necessary for the system to be updated. Utilizing a system development life-cycle (SDLC) methodology to analyze and create a project plan to update Riordan’s HR system. Following SDLCs structure and its categorizations, the five phases will be covered in this paper and they are the following: project planning, analysis, design, implementation, and support (Burd, et al, 2004). In addition, this paper will also tackle the different types of information gathering that is best for the success of the project. According to Burd, S.D, et al (Systems Analysis and Design in a Changing World, 2004), there are several methods of information gathering and most widely used, and they are the following: Review existing reports, forms, and procedure descriptions; Conduct interviews and discussions with users; Observe and document business processes; Build prototypes; Distribute and collect questionnaires; Conduct joint application development (JAD) sessions; Research vendor solutions. Company Background Founded by a professor of Chemistry in the year 1991, Dr. Riordan’s company initially a research and development and licensing of its existing patents, obtained...

...asked to review current and future systems for Riordan Manufacturing’s Human Resource and Legal departments. We have done an evaluation of the systems as they are today. The goal has been to identify areas that need improvement. Our suggestions are as follows. Human Resource The present Human Resource Information System (HRIS) was installed in 1992. Here is a short rundown of what the system does: stores employee information (pay rate, hire date etc.), contains separate excel spreadsheets for training/development and job analysis/salary compensation, job openings and resume filing, and employee relations (complaints, grievances etc.) ("HRIS", 2005). Upon review, it is concluded that Riordan Manufacturing is operating on an outdated HRIS. This has at least two disadvantages. First and foremost, the current system has security concerns. Second, the current system is not efficient. A survey of HRIS systems users has shown that lack of efficiency is one of the biggest problems with old HRIS systems, and therefore one of the top priorities in a new system (“Top HRIS challenges,” 2002). Security concerns include the following: employee information changes must be submitted on paper creating a possibility for loose papers with personal information, resumes are stored in multiple unsecured locations, and employee files are kept in multiple unsecured locations. If any personal client information were to leak, Riordan could be engaged in legal difficulties. “If...

...Service Request SR-rm-004, Part 2 Human Resources Information System (HRIS) The Human Resources Information System (HRIS) is the current system used by the Human Resources Department of Riordan Manufacturing. This system handles the company’s 550 employee’s data, plus it performs several other tasks which include the employee’s personal information, hire date, pay rate, and vacation time accrued. This system was installed in 1992 and has yet to be upgraded to handle many different transactions, these transaction are currently handled manually. If any changes in employee status are needed, the manager of that employee will need to fill-out a special form and submit it to payroll for it to be entered into the system. Service Request Advancement in technology has presented a necessity for changes and upgrades to the Human Resources Information System (HRIS). This up-to-date system will switch from manually done transactions to automatic transactions that will provide security, speed, reliability, and save time by eliminating the special forms. Hugh McCauley, company chief operating officer (COO), has requested an analysis of the HR system to integrate the existing variety of tools in use today into a single integrated application (Apollo, 2007). As the company’s interest in being a part of a new state-of-the-art information system technology rises, there are several steps needs to be taken...

...HRIS Development at Riordan Manufacturing Devlin Conley BSA/375 Fundamentals of Business Systems Development 9/30/12 James Welti, JR. HRIS Development at Riordan Manufacturing The current human resource information system at Riordan Manufacturing was implemented in 1992 as part of the finical information system. Being twenty years old this system is significantly outdated both in terms of hardware and practices used by employees to updated or upload information. Service request SR-rm-022 purposes the development of a new human resources information system which will be a standalone system, separate from that of the finical system. This system should be inclusive and cohesive rather than the current system which is segregated and includes paper forms. Initial Evaluation Riordan Manufacturing currently has seven individual systems; employee information, training and development records, open positions and applications, worker’s compensation, performance and attendance, compensation, and employee relations. In the current configuration each of these systems is separate from one another and each system needs to be evaluated prior to the development of a new cohesive system. Each individual system current has its own key personal that use the system each of these personal should be consulted for feedback on the current system to help find its flaws as overcoming them will be a critical aspect when designing the new system. In addition the systems hardware, software...

...Riordan Manufacturing LT B: Novelette Anglin, Tina Greenlee, Tyracia Johnson, Melissa Richard, Rachel Ribar, Scott Scansen HRM/319 December 5, 2011 Suzan Jackson, MA, PHR Introduction A. Initial Steps to Design HRIS for Riordan Human resources are the fit between the individual and the organization (Gallos, 2006). This means when there is a decision to use a Human Resource Information System (HRIS) or change one that is in place, there are some very critical steps that have to occur. Learning Team B will briefly cover the steps in this paper. First, there needs to be a needs analysis completed. This is done to show where the current system, implemented in 1992, meets the requirements today and looking into the future. It will also drive out gaps. Areas where new functionality is needed to address an issue or need within the organization, between the individual, and the organization. In this project for Riordan Manufacturing the needs analysis clearly showed the current HRIS system does not have the technical capabilities to handle their increased number of employees, and departments within the company. Next, Learning Team B goes into the planning phase within the change process. This phase starts planning for the long and short-term goals of the new HRIS system to meet Riordan’s needs as outlined in the needs analysis. Key items to include are the integration points within the departments for the processes, who will access and use the system, and the types...

...Hugh McCauley, COO, has requested that the HR system be integrated into a single application. This proposal documents my approach to gathering requirements and scoping the HRIS. In the following weeks I will outline the approach for implementing the entire HR system. The aim of this proposal is to help Riordan deploy a new HRIS. The new, modern HR system will make sure that each location can have a high level of compatibility through a standardized operating system. They will begin to implement the new system in six months, and it will be operational by next year's second quarter. Riordan's HRIS system will be updated by a developing team, who will come up with a project plan and tell management what resources they need. To understand the project goal, the problem's domain and stakeholders must be identified. Interviewing different users will pinpoint particular problems in the system and begin to develop a possible solution. “Requirement elicitation must focus on the creation of requirements, not design activities, in order to adequately address users’ concerns and not just developer needs” (Christel & Kang, p. 18, 1992). Sometimes it is an indefinite goal to gather a problem's requirements, and it is possible that design language makes the unclear specifications unverifiable. The following techniques will be used to find specific user requirements. * Workshops- that facilitating meetings with many stakeholders. * Surveys – collecting information from...
