In a working relationship you need to be professional and formal, follow trusts policies and procedures, have time limits and structure, offer advice in a professional manor using facts you have learnt, change your way of working to different people’s needs, be polite and friendly at all times, and to not breach confidentiality.

In the workplace it is important to work within your job role as you need to be accountable for your actions and be able to explain why you have made a certain decision. Also, you have a responsibility to carry out duties of care and follow trust policies and procedures. The scope of the job role is laid out in your job description. If these rules are not followed then it could result in the harm of a patient and possibly even death. Patient safety would be ignored and would lead to a patient being affected and consequences being taken.

The Keynesian theory was thrown out the window in the 1980's and took on the classic theory. WHAT IS THE CLASSIC STYLE This style was adopted by the World Bank because is believes is a free market and limited role in the states. (Econ online) Classic style believes that the economy is best left to the markets to run free and without control, to let the market have free reign will build itself and keep itself going without government or state control. The best way to do this is to promote entrepreneurship to make state owned industries private own, and redo the labor markets by making states at will or Right to Work by reducing the union power. The free-market approach, where markets alone are assumed sufficient to generate maximum welfare. The public-choice approach, which is an extreme New-classical model which emphasizes that all government is ‘bad’ and leads to corruption and the gradual confiscation of private property. The market-friendly approach, which suggests that, while markets work, they sometimes fail to emerge, and a government has an important role in compensating for three main market failures: missing markets, imperfect knowledge and externalizes. However Jake cannot blame Herman for his problems arising partly out of his own lack of care, more importantly as he is in a manger cadre and senior staff who is expected to guide others under his control. This sends out a wrong signal to Herman as well as his own colleagues and juniors. Jake being now in the management cadre cannot ask for overtime and has to do the job of oil change that is within the scope of service manager’s responsibility. However Jake can demand Herman to provide additional staff to take on the additional tasks of free oil change for his cars. Jake should also insist on a work measurement study and implementing systems to measure quantum of work output and link it to compensation, to decide on the quantum of work that can be expected from one worker and manager, during a normal work day and come up with methods of meeting the additional work load through additional hands. Jake should ask the question, if his day to day job is reflecting his managerial position given to him by Herman, and if there is misalignment between tasks he has to carry out and the title conferred by Herman. He should get it annuled by Herman or revert to his old position of worker so that he can enforce rights of hours of work, demand overtime for additional hours of work, compensation for injury or assign workers to work under...

Neoliberalism

..."freeing up" the economy by removing barriers and restrictions to what actors can do. Neoliberalism's policies seek to create a laissez-faire atmosphere for economic development. "Neo" means we are talking about a new kind of liberalism. Main points 1. THE RULE OF THE MARKET. Liberating "free" enterprise or private enterprise from any bonds imposed by the government (the state) no matter how much social damage this causes. Greater openness to international trade and investment, as in NAFTA. Reduce wages by de-unionizing workers and eliminating workers' rights that had been won over many years of struggle. No more price controls. All in all, total freedom of movement for capital, goods and services. To convince us this is good for us, they say "an unregulated market is the best way to increase economic growth, which will ultimately benefit everyone." It's like Reagan's "supply-side" and "trickle-down" economics -- but somehow the wealth didn't trickle down very much. 2. CUTTING PUBLIC EXPENDITURE FOR SOCIAL SERVICES like education and health care. REDUCING THE SAFETY-NET FOR THE POOR, and even maintenance of roads, bridges, water supply -- again in the name of reducing government's role. Of course, they don't oppose government subsidies and tax...

...breaks my heart to see what the workers in the factory have to go through daily. Throughout the documentary, it was shocking to hear and see the worker say that the hometown that she has been living in all her life turn into a hazardous place due to the factories that are near. After reading the article, from my perspective, it is definitely unfortunate that most of the customers only think about new products, than the hard-working people in the factories. B. In our technological world, free trade has now become one of the most contentious topics of our modern times. However, despite its challenges, the positive role includes giving us access to many new products, and also creates an economic opportunity. While our country is developing, free trade could lead us to a faster progression that will help us strengthen our economy and may also improve the quality of our lifestyles. However, despite the many positive aspects about Free Trade, it comes with a negative trait as well. From my perspective, the problem with the system of Free Trade is that it can create as well as destroy jobs. The “Freedom of movement” is a movement where asserts a citizen of a state in which that citizen is present and “has the liberty to travel, reside in, or work in any part of the state where one pleases within the limits of respect for the liberty and the rights of others”. As time passes, the right to ‘freedom of movement’ has gone a complete change. The free trade system is meant to get rid...

...The role of the state in modern capitalist economies can hardly be ignored. Whether through legislation, macro-economic policy or its role as an employer, the presence of the state is pervasive. Developing countries has developed an Industrial Relations System in which the state plays an active role. As in other African Countries, the state through its most powerful apparatus Government have accepted and are applying the policies based on the belief that the other parties in Industrial Relations System (workers and Employers) cannot be left entirely to regulate all aspect of the work system. In few of the above, this essay seek to discuss the view that non-state intervention in industrial relations is intervention in favour of capital. Initially, key terms are defined, main topic is discussed and subsequently concluded. Otobo (2000) defines the state as an institutional system of political government, with a monopoly over tax and the legitimate use of force in a society (Otobo, 2000). Wailes (2002) states that, industrial relations means relationship between management and workmen in a unit or an industry. In its wider connotation, it means the organisation and practice of multi pronged (split) relationships between workers and management, unions and workers, in an industry. Therefore, Industrial relations is that part of management which is concerned with the manpower of the enterprise (pp. 31-34). Plowman (2006) postulates that the notion of non-state intervention in industrial...

Carter Cleaning Cases 9-10

...Carter Cleaning case: Chapter 9 1. Is Jennifer right about the need to evaluate the workers formally? The managers? Why or why not? Jennifer is absolutely correct in having these employee evaluations done formally. Reason for is to protect Carter Cleaning Company and its business goals from discrimination charges or violations of Title VII of the 1964 Civil rights Act. Informal evaluations can lead to unfair appraisals which can open a can of unexpected problems. All employees should receive formal evaluations via by paper or electronic forms in order to have a documented history. Keeping employee evaluations on file makes it easier for employers to reference certain information needed for promotions or projects, etc. Jennifer should get with Jack to discuss what performance dimensions should be measured and how to measure them. Once they’ve come to a decision, Jennifer should look in to developing a sort of graphic rating scale. 2. Develop a performance appraisal method for the workers and managers in each store. Globalisation

...a result of the unequal distribution of capitalism - those who have capitalism grow rich, those who don't stay poor. Globalisation can also be seen positively in a country where the economy has doubled in the past fifteen years, Vietnam. Even though the vast majority of Vietnam is still poor, this is changing due to globalization. First of all, globalisation has clearly made the workers’ lives better. At the Nike factory, workers need to be older than 18 to work at foot wear, and at least older than 16 to work at apparel. The average age of a worker there is around 24 to 25 years old. The reason why so many children had to work before was because their parents needed them to in order to help support the family, but since they are now able to make more money, this is no longer a necessity. Nike pays about $54 per month for their workers which is a high salary for their standards receives. This salary is also very high when compared to the minimum wage. The workers that work for Nike also have some other benefits such as healthcare, free meals, commerce close to the factories, a park for workers to relax during breaks and restricted working hours. Many people left and came back. They preferred to work at Nike rather than at a farm because at the...

Public Administration

...its structure and leadership. Over the years many theories have been developed regarding the structure of organizations. I will be focusing on Fredrick Taylor and Adam Smith. These theorists provided different models of organizational structural theories. Frederick Taylor was considered to be the father of modern efficiency model. Around early 1900's, he formalized the principles of Scientific Management and developed a set of ideas designed focusing on the individual to help maximize efficiency. His main idea was that every job could be done in a scientific method which maximizes profit. He also believed that workers are lazy and their rational thought made them maximize their own utility. Taylor states that Management and not workers are to develop a science for every job, which replaces the old rule of thumb method.(Diprete,1991) In order to do that, workers should be scientifically selected, trained and placed in jobs for which they are mentally and physically suited.(Diprete, 1991) This scientific training is one of the most important principles of Taylor's Scientific Management. The job to be done should also be analyzed scientifically to determine the best way to do that job. The employee’s should have standard times for jobs...

...Understanding Roles and Responsibilities When Caring for Individuals with Dementia P4 – Explain roles and responsibilities of Health and Social Care workers in improving the health and quality of life for people with dementia. In this task I will be explaining the different roles and responsibilities of Health and Social Care workers, when it comes to caring for individuals suffering from dementia. These roles and responsibilities are: * Person-Centred Approach * Safeguarding and Protecting * Maintaining Health and Wellbeing * Service Provision Person-Centred Approach A good health and social care services will follow the principles of the Person-Centred Approach. This approach aims to see the person as an individual, rather than concentrating on their illness or on the capabilities they have lost. Other than treating the individual as a group of symptoms and behaviours to be controlled, person-centred approach looks into the person as a whole, taking into consideration of each persons’ unique talents, abilities, interests, preferences and needs. Person-centred approach also means to treat people with dementia with dignity and respect. Safeguarding and Protecting Safeguarding is the action that is taken to promote the welfare of vulnerable adults and protect them from harm. Individuals suffering from dementia may be subject to being mistreated and abused in the community or in care homes and hospitals. This can include psychological, financial, emotional...

...Sud America Telephone: 511 419 2800 Fax: 511 419 2828 pedrocastellano@hotmail.com pcastell@upc.edu.pe Macro context of management at organisations Prof. Pedro Castellano-Masias Introduction Management literature is frequently involved with the practicalities of bearing organisational control in order to achieve the shareholders interests (Daft, R.; 2000), (Hodge, Anthony and Gales, 1998), (Kotter, J.; 1997). It seems to be assumed that in so doing the organisations ensure their profitability and survival. Main focus is then placed on technologies of control and efficiency while criteria regarding other stakeholders’ interests are not considered. There is little or none awareness whatsoever of the situation that it is imposed to the workers and their families, there is little account of the organisational impact on the community, there is a very limited awareness and attention regarded to the environmental implications of managerial and organisational activities. In addition, not enough is being said regarding the ways in which the past is shaping the future while preserving a system of privileges and exclusion. A social system of domination and oppression is being reconstructed on the basis of traditions, former learning on the form of culture and attitudes, and technologies such as management. Reluctance to be aware of the wider implications of management and organisational activities to some extent shapes our current society (Alvesson and Willmott; 1996), (Lorbiecki, A.;...

Hr Negotiation Process

...Relations. The term labour relations, also known as industrial relations, refers to the system in which employers, workers and their representatives and, directly or indirectly, the government interact to set the ground rules for the governance of work relationships. It also describes a field of study dedicated to examining such relationships. The field is an outgrowth of the industrial revolution, whose excesses led to the emergence of trade unions to represent workers and to the development of collective labour relations. A labour or industrial relations system reflects the interaction between the main actors in it: the state, the employer (or employers or an employers’ association), trade unions and employees (who may participate or not in unions and other bodies affording workers’ representation). The phrases “labour relations” and “industrial relations” are also used in connection with various forms of workers’ participation; they can also encompass individual employment relationships between an employer and a worker under a written or implied contract of employment, although these are usually referred to as “employment relations”. There is considerable variation in the use of the terms, partly reflecting the evolving nature of the field over time and place. There is general agreement, however, that the field embraces collective bargaining, various forms of workers’ participation (such as works councils and joint health and safety committees) and mechanisms for resolving collective...

Role of Management in Creating Fairer Practices and Conditions at Work

...of people and their living conditions. In several organizations, inequality is experienced in many ways. The gaps range from the way remuneration is done, and the way promotions are offered to the way disciplinary actions are taken upon those who are involved in misconduct within the organization. Every employee enjoys a working environment where he or she is treated with fairness, dignity and respect. Through the provision of a favorable working environment, employees become motivated, and the result will be improved productivity and customer service. Therefore, a healthy working environment should be free from inequalities of any kind in the organization. The management of any organization has a huge role to play to ensure fair practices and conditions at work. This paper is going to outline the measures that can be taken by the management to ensure a working environment free of inequalities. The first thing the management of any organization can do to realize the fairness in the organization is to conduct equality trainings to all employees (Castaldo et al. 2009). All employees should be made aware of the justice issues related to resource allocation, performance appraisal, recruitment process and the process of promotion. On the other hand, training should be done to the employees to equip them with the knowledge of the equality policy of the organization and the meaning of the policy to them as employees (Castaldo et al. 2009). This is a move to make the employees aware...
