SAN JUAN DE GUIMBA: A BRIEF HISTORY
It was the 20th of February 1865 when a group of Ilocano settlers in wooden carts and horsebacks arrived at a vast forested plain northwest of the Binituan River in Nueva Ecija. They cleared the land and started planting the loamy soil with the rice seeds they brought with them. They called the new land San Juan de Guimba in honor of the patron saint the settlers brought from Ilocos, and of the pot-making industry called “gebba” which they used to do in the old land. Thus was the origin of Guimba and its rice industry as it rose to become the province of Nueva Ecija’s traditional top rice producing area.

Soon more settlers arrived mostly from the old towns of Bacarra, Paoay, and Candon of the Ilocos provinces. Among the families who came were the Galapons, Mateos, Cudals, Padres, Cayogs, Romanos, Silvestres, Capinpuyans, Batangans, Faigals, Sumawangs, and Catabonas. What would be the town of Guimba is a relatively organized community when the Spanish colonialists arrived and appointed Don Luis De Ocampo as the first Gobernadorcillo.

The Spanish left and the Americans came and in 1912, the town’s name was abbreviated to Guimba with Don Alfonso Faigal as the first Alcalde Mayor. St. John the Evangelist though remains to be its patron saint. The first municipal hall was also built during this year in what is now known as Faigal Street. The Plaza Municipal evolved and what will become the public market started its commerce. In 1963, a new municipal hall was built in its current location that was later replaced by the new structure in 2006 when the town was elevated as a first class municipality.

The progressive town of Guimba as it is known today is a testament to the hard work and determination to succeed of its people. And of course a living monument to the vision of its leaders who served their town and constituents well:

ROUTE SELECTION: We have selected 3 diversion roads in the map 3132-II of our project; its location is found in
Nueva Ecija, Philippines. Our criteria for selecting appropriate road diversion: 1) No more than two or three roads exists; 2) It must be 10 km of length; 3) No establishments or houses in road diversion exists; 4) River must not be 500 m wide; 5) No mountains, plateaus, hills or boulders traversed.

In return, we have selected many diversion roads in the map 3132-II because there is no

diversion road created yet, and yet roads that are existing are not interfere perpendicularly to each other due to many number of rivers and fishponds in the area.
The roads enlisted are: 1) Licab-Aliaga-Cabanatuan (L.A.C) Road (13.5 km) 2) Guimba Diagonal Road (22.0 km) 3) Munoz-Talavera Road 1 (10.4 km) 4) Munoz-Talavera Road 2 (18.7 km) 5) Guimba-Licab Road (17.2 km) 6) San Roque-Licab Road (11.2 km)

* Road 2 in observation is rejected due to its long length of its proposed road, it violates

Rule 2.

* Road 3 is nearly accepted, but when we observe that a lot of rivers surrounded in the

area, wow, a lot of bridges to be done!

* Road 4 violates almost all of our criteria due to its location and densely residential area.

* Therefore, Roads 1, 5 and 6 satisfies and goes to the top 3. But another criterion to be

made so that a final verdict of the chosen diversion road will established.

* Among the three, Road 6 is our final choice, because in observation, it almost follows all our criterion well and its length is near to 10 km, well done. So then it will be the time that the design of the diversion road must apply.

How Did Theodore Roosevelt's Charge On San Juan Hill

...Theodore Roosevelt and his Rough Riders did not lead the charge on San Juan Hill. Colonel Roosevelt participated primarily in the taking of Kettle Hill, which was adjacent to San Juan Hill. San Juan Hill is more of a misnomer as the area was a series of ridgelines making up the San Juan Heights and not a hilltop. The American press deemed this victory as the greatest victory for Theodore Roosevelt and the Rough Riders of the 1st Volunteer Cavalry even though the Buffalo Soldiers of the 10th Cavalry and 24th Infantry Regiment had done the bulk of the fighting. In the early months of 1898, key events took place in relatively rapid succession that led up to the Spanish-American War and in turn, the Battle of San Juan Hill. Some saw this war as a necessity to end the appalling conditions on an...

San Juan Valley History

...Located in the southwest region of Colorado, lies the San Juan Mountains. Providing numerous economic opportunities, the deposits present today are representative of the regions violent geological history. While most of the San Juan’s rocks were formed during fierce volcanic eruptions beginning during the late Eocene/early Oligocene epochs, some rocks have been dated back to the Precambrian era of geological time. Additionally, as a jagged mountainous landscape, the San Juan’s offer a great deal of recreational outlets while also playing a key role in the regions water supply. Although minimal evidence remains, the history of the san Jaun’s dates back to the Archean eon. During this period of time, large amounts of felsic lava fused up to...

...Triangle A: Examples of theories and historical events. B: Environmental reasoning of the location. II. The Popular Mystery of Flight 19 A: The legend of six fighter planes disappearing on a routine flight. B: How the Bermuda Triangle got its name from this mystery. C: The true occurrence of how the mission went and explanation of phenomena. For years there has been an unsolved mystery of disappearances of boats and planes with no trace of evidence left behind. All of these conspiracies had relevance as to the whereabouts of these lost travelers. The locations of these disappearances were within a geographical triangle in the Atlantic Ocean. The corners of this legendary triangle were between three axis points: Miami, Florida; San Juan, Puerto Rico; and Bermuda. After some question this so-called triangle gained the name "Devils Triangle," serving to peoples superstitions that the devil was fooling with lost travelers. It also brought to question whether aliens had a selected spot on earth for abduction or could it be a vortex that warps the living to another dimension. Could all of these questionable losses just be a coincidence that conjured up a myth? In the last hundred and fifty years forty ships and twenty planes have disappeared carrying over a thousand people into an oblivion that is yet to be explained (Kusche 10). Even the US Coast Guard is baffled by these series of events. There are also cases of disappearances during search and rescue missions. There...

...Discussion 1: Course Policies In my opinion, to keep up with deadlines and daily work is vital to the success of any course and program. It is important to complete assignments promptly to avoid losing points in the class for this aspect. As students, we cannot procrastinate at any point because that will delay our work and then if something else comes up we will regret it. Being such fast paced course, we will need to take advantage of the time and engage in effective time management. I admire your courage Robert, in returning to your studies and getting back on track. In my case, this is my first doctoral course, after taking a bridge course between my masters and the doctoral. All these policies are scary, but if we do not follow them it is on us. The University provides us with all the tools that we need to succeed. Your example of coming back to study shows us how important all these goals are to become better individuals and professionals. Discussion 2: Doctoral Journey Assumptions I first thought about a doctoral degree because of my past job. It was a competition because I used to work at a University. Then, when I left that job, I thought about it more in depth and found out that it was what I wanted. Research Paper On Bermuda Triangle

...James Keaney Mrs. Gresham Honors English November 2nd, 2015 The Bermuda Triangle is an expanse of sea that is infamous because many ships and planes go missing over its waters. The causes of these disappearances are still unknown, and many have not returned from it. There are many facts involving the Bermuda Triangle, and even more interesting theories. 1. Facts The Bermuda Triangle is an expanse of ocean between Puerto Rico, Florida, and the island of Bermuda. It was first given its name Devil’s Triangle in the 1969 John Wallace Spencer book, Limbo of the Lost. Despite being known worldwide, it is not officially recognized by the US Navy or the US Board of Geographical Names as an actual worldwide area (“Bermuda Triangle”.) There are many popular cases of disappearing ships and like the case of Flight 19, which was a set of five ships being sent on a practice mission over the area, and never returned. The two planes that followed to try and locate the missing ones were also lost and never seen again. Another popular case, the sinking of the USS Cyclops, also happened around that area. The USS Cyclops was a 542-foot long collier ship that was making its way to Baltimore to deliver supplies to the US Navy, when it made a stop on the island of Barbados. The ship never arrived at its destination, and the crew of 306 lives has been lost, and the bodies never retrieved. Other famous cases include the disappearances of the Mary Celeste and the Ellen Austin (“The “Mystery” of The Bermuda...

Perception of Selected Filipino Teenagers in Intramuros, Manila on Their Exposure to Pinoy Big Brother

...------------------------------------------------- Perception of selected Filipino Teenagers in Intramuros, Manila on their exposure to Pinoy Big Brother Robles, John Darel Catacutan1 Refugia, Jose Alberto Cabotaje1 Jonalou SJ. Labor2 1AB Communication Arts Seniors, Institute of Communication, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Colegio de San Juan de Letran 2 Faculty, Language Area, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Colegio de San Juan de Letran ABSTRACT Pinoy Big Brother of ABS-CBN Channel 2 is the Philippine version of the reality television show Big Brother. Television’s effects on viewers especially teenagers is a subject that has been extensively studied in the last twenty years and whose impact extends farther than most people realize. Many studies have focused on how television programs that appear to be “real” (such as new and daytime dramas) alter the viewers’ perception of reality (or social reality). However, there is a lack of qualitative data to either support or disprove this belief. This study thus aims to describe and discuss the pluses, minuses and interests (PMI) of the perception of Pinoy Big Brother to teenagers. Forty selected teenagers who are a fan of the show were the participants of this qualitative inquiry. Initially, the teenagers were made to fill out forms for purposes of profiling their baseline characteristics. The teenagers were asked individually to discuss both their positive and negative perceptions to Pinoy Big Brother. Data...
