How much quality time have you spent with your friends or family this week? Not much, right? Most of your time is “spent”, or should I say, wasted, on technology. Technology has been extremely overused since it’s so reliable. If you need anything it is there to help. However the over usage of it prevents us from having intimate relationships with people and can cause us to get injured. “Screen Free Week” is an event in which people all around the world try to give up their devices for a week. We too should participate in the “Shut Down Your Screen Week” because during that week it will have a positive effect in our daily lives.
The use of technology has severed our ties with people we cherish. Whenever we’re spending time in front of a screen, it distracts us from the fact that we could be using that same time with our family and friends. In the article “Social Media as Community,” it states that studies have shown that Americans today have fewer close relationships that they did twenty years ago. Our technology could have caused our personal relationships to be more distant and less …show more content…
It prevents us from concentrating, and can eventually lead you to a life-threatening scenario. In article 1, under the sub-headed passage “Homework Takes Too Long,” it states that our phones are constantly calling for our attention while we’re supposed to do other things. For instance, you’re walking down the street, but only paying half attention to the road. The other half is focused on that text message your friend sent you, and you aren’t as aware of your surroundings. There’s a high chance to get hit by a car. “This is because our brains can only process one stream of information,” stated in article 2 sub-headed “Always On.” Thus, we need to partake in this “Screen Down Your Screen Week” to decrease the number of injures devices may

... * Abstract The General Ledger has been the basic bookkeeping tool of double-entry accounting since the Green Eyeshade days. It records financial transactions as both Credits and Debits in balance sheets, which before the advent of software were bound together in huge volumes like something out of a Dickens novel. BS1 General Ledger from Davis Business Systems brings the General Ledger up to cyber speed with a variety of easy-to-use accounting tools that can track budgets and financial data and generate income statements, balance sheets, and other reports. It's freeware, a good start, accountancy-wise. BS1 General Ledger proves just how much high-quality business software is available for free, though it's also available in a paid version that adds technical support and free updates. However, many businesspeople, entrepreneurs, treasurers, and others will appreciate what the freeware can do for both sides...

Viral Marketing

...technique with great success to build highly recognizable brands. Technology makes the spread of product knowledge from one person to another faster and more efficient. Today, digital media like the Internet are the new word of mouth networks, which act as easy, additional resources for people to spread the word. "The Net amplifies the power and accelerates the speed of feedback from users to potential adopters." "People have always relied on word-of-mouth to spread the news about products and services. The Internet just speeds things along," says Charlene Li, an analyst with Forrester Research. Word-of-mouth techniques are vital to marketing on the Internet. Consumers say the primary source of credibility that makes them visit a Web site is word-of-mouth referrals, usually an e-mail from a friend, according to the Internet research firm Jupiter Research. Tim Draper, one of the founding investors for the free e-mail product Hotmail, and a partner with the venture firm Draper Fisher Jurvetson (www.dfj.com), coined the term "viral marketing" in 1997 when he first noticed similarities between the rapid adoption of products via word of mouth and the spread of biological viruses. Draper noted the viral phenomenon after Hotmail went from 0 to 12 million subscribers in just eighteen months, largely...

Telepresencev vs Videoconferencing

...Telepresence vs. Videoconferencing Resolving the Cost/Benefit Conundrum Page 1 Copyright © 2006 Wainhouse Research, LLC Telepresence vs. Videoconferencing Resolving the Cost/Benefit Conundrum Data from multiple users of telepresence and videoconferencing systems leads us to believe that the actual cost per hour for these two types of systems may not be all that different. This paper describes our findings and how we came to these conclusions. January 28, 2008 Revision 9 Introduction More than a decade after the first telepresence solution was introduced to the public, telepresence hit the limelight towards the end of calendar year 2006. With high technology giants gaining the attention of C-level customers, many conferencing and collaboration managers are beginning to look at this new class of enterprise communications system more closely and to examine their assumptions and perceptions around the concept of telepresence. Differentiating Telepresence from Videoconferencing Many in the end user community are very familiar with videoconferencing, a solution set that has been around for over twenty years. Videoconferencing provides two-way, interactive audio and video communications between two or more end points. In the past decade, videoconferencing technology and products have advanced along multiple fronts – including the move to IP networks that provide higher bandwidth, lower costs, and vastly improved connection reliability; the evolution from low...
