“Save the Whales or Watch SeaWorld Fail”

The Killer Whale Show at SeaWorld has just begun. Children of all ages rush into the stadium with excitement to see the park’s main attraction, the orca whales. These whales are one of the most intelligent marine creatures on this planet and their beauty has fascinated humans throughout generations. However, there is a deep concern that exists beneath the surface of this well-polished establishment. The reality of what these whales experience everyday does not occur to the public and it is not likely to cross their minds whether their captivity is morally wrong. SeaWorld continues to make a profit at the expense of the whales. Currently, society has placed an emphasis on improving the treatment of the …show more content…
After the release of “Blackfish,” the company faced immense financial trouble. Their profits dropped eighty-four percent in the second-quarter income from 2014 to 2015. Socially, SeaWorld continues to battle criticism and negative publicity. Their reputation as a family oriented organization is threatened, and they have certainly lost the trust of the public. On an environmental level, the company is compromising the safety and welfare of the whales. At the rate things are going, the state of the company is at risk. Pope Francis claims that sin is manifest in the various forms of violence and abuse, the abandonment of the most vulnerable, and attacks on nature. One could also say it is evident in not only abandonment, but also the confinement of the most vulnerable. The current shows at SeaWorld are cruel, unjustifiable, and distort the natural way of life these whales deserve. The inhabitants of whales is not a decision for human beings to make. SeaWorld must make it a priority to foster environmental, social, and economic sustainability across the company, while considering the impact of their decisions, operations, and investments. They must encourage a common benefit for their business, the communities that engage in the park’s entertainment, and primarily the

Ceo Compensation

...CEO compensation. Although there are two sides of this argument, recent legislation and regulations for reform tend to support those who believe it is unfair. We have evaluated the current standards of CEO compensation and examined why both sides think they should prevail. There are some advantages that strongly support CEO’s huge salaries, including the following: * Provides incentives and motivates the CEO to obtain or surpass corporate objectives * Retains key-value leaders for the long-term, resulting in consistent corporate success * Creates a strong CEO confidence for him/her to reinvest in the corporation (bonds) Our overall research indicates that CEO compensation does not reflect actual performance in most cases. Many CEO’s are grossly over compensated (including stock options, bonuses, hedge funds, and other benefits). The “Golden Parachute” guarantee adds insult to injury. Based on our research, conducted from the UNLV Library periodicals database and online sources, we recommend the following: * Require corporations to adhere to sections 951, 953, 955 and 956 of the Dodd-Frank Bill * Maintain a collective (“Esprit de corps”) work force environment for all employees * Consult third party professional payroll agencies that evaluate and determine appropriate salaries The goal of our research is to reveal the best solutions to optimize corporate payroll risk management that will promote steady growth for corporations, their...

After five challenging years, there were a number of positive developments for the industry in 2013, including a rebound in fundraising and a record $120 billion returned to investors in private equity. mo • men • tum noun: the impetus gained by a moving object Overall, 2013 will be remembered as a solid year for private equity. Although the year started off slowly, activity picked up considerably in the second half, particularly in the world of exits. The fourth quarter of 2013 was one of the strongest quarters on record for PE exits, attributable largely to a robust IPO market. The key topic that must be considered in projecting the industry’s outlook for 2014 is whether it can build upon this momentum, or whether the industry’s capital overhang and competition for quality deals will prove too great a resistive force. While we’ll analyze the industry in its broadest sense, our focus is decidedly on the outlook for middle-market private equity firms―those firms with...
