DRESS SHARP
Although clothes don’t make the man, they certainly affect the way he/she feels about himself/herself. No one is more conscious of your physical appearance than you are. When you don’t look good, it changes the way you carry yourself and interact with other people. Use this to your advantage by taking care of your personal appearance. In most cases, significant improvements can be made by bathing and shaving frequently, wearing clean clothes, and being aware of the latest styles. This doesn’t mean you need to spend a lot on clothes. One great rule to follow is “spend twice as much, buy half as much”. Rather than buying a bunch of cheap clothes, buy half as many select, high quality items. In long run this decreases spending because expensive clothes wear out less easily and stay in style longer than cheap clothes. Buying less also helps reduce the confusion in your closet.

WALK FASTER
One of the easiest ways to tell how a person feels about himself/herself is to examine him/her walk. Is it slow? tired? painful? Or is it energetic and purposeful? People with confidence, walk quickly. They have places to go, people to see, and important work to do. Even if you aren’t in a hurry, you can increase your self confidence by putting some energy in your step. Walking 25% faster will make to you look and feel more important.

GOOD POSTURE
Similarly, the way a person carries himself/herself tells a story. People with slumped shoulders and tired movements display a lack of self confidence. They aren’t enthusiastic about what they’re doing and they don’t consider themselves important. By practicing good posture, you’ll automatically feel more confident. Stand up straight, keep your head up, and make eye contact. You’ll make a positive impression on others and instantly feel more alert and empowered.

PERSONAL COMMERCIAL
One of the best ways to build confidence is listening to a motivational speech. Unfortunately, opportunities to listen to a great speaker are few and far between. You can fill this need by creating a personal commercial. Write a 30-60 second speech that highlights your strengths and goals. Then recite it in front of the mirror aloud (or inside your head if you prefer) whenever you need a confidence boost.

GRATITUDE
When you focus too much on what you want, the mind creates reasons why you can’t have it. This leads you to dwell on your weaknesses. The best way to avoid this is consciously focusing on gratitude. Set aside time each day to mentally list everything you have to be grateful for. Recall your past successes, unique skills, loving relationships, and positive momentum. You’ll be amazed how much you have going for you and motivated to take that next step towards success.

COMPLIMENT OTHER PEOPLE
When we think negatively about ourselves, we often project that feeling on to others in the form of insults and gossip. To break this cycle of negativity, get in the habit of praising other people. Refuse to engage in backstabbing gossip and make an effort to compliment those around you. In the process, you’ll become well liked and build Self Confident. By looking for the best in others, you indirectly bring out the best in yourself.

SIT IN THE FRONT ROW
In schools, offices, and public assemblies around the world, people constantly strive to sit at the back of the room. Most people prefer the back because they’re afraid of being noticed. This reflects a lack of self confidence. By deciding to sit in the front row, you can get over this irrational fear and build your self confidence. You’ll also be more visible to the important people talking from the front of the room.

SPEAK UP
During group discussions many people never speak up because they’re afraid that people will judge them for saying something stupid. This fear isn’t really justified. Generally, people are much more accepting than we imagine. In fact most people are dealing with the exact same fears. By making an effort to speak up at least once in every group discussion, you’ll become a better public speaker, more confident in your own thoughts, and recognized as a leader by your peers.

WORK OUT
Along the same lines as personal appearance, physical fitness has a huge effect on self confidence. If you’re out of shape, you’ll feel insecure, unattractive, and less energetic. By working out, you improve your physical appearance, energize yourself, and accomplish something positive. Having the discipline to work out not only makes you feel better, it creates positive momentum that you can build on the rest of the day.

FOCUS ON CONTRIBUTION
Too often we get caught up in our own desires. We focus too much on ourselves and not enough on the needs of other people. If you stop thinking about yourself and concentrate on the contribution you’re making to the rest of the world, you won’t worry as much about you own flaws. This will increase self confidence and allow you to contribute with maximum efficiency. The more you contribute to the world the more you’ll be rewarded with personal success and recognition.

Build Self Confidence

...How to Build Self Confidence Recognize your insecurities. What does that voice in the back of your mind say? What makes you uncomfortable or ashamed of yourself? This could be anything from acne, to regrets, friends at school or a past traumatic or negative experience. Whatever is making you feel unworthy, ashamed, or inferior, identify it, give it a name, and write it down. You can also tear these written pieces to start feeling positive on those points. Bounce back from your mistakes. Remember that no one is perfect. Even the most confident people have insecurities. At some point in any of our lives, we may feel we lack something. That is reality. Learn that life is full of bumps down the road. And that often these insecure feelings come and go, depending on where we are, who we are with, the mood we are in, how we are feeling. In other words, they are not constant. Identify your successes. Everyone is good at something, so discover the things at which you excel, then focus on your talents. Give yourself permission to take pride in them. Give yourself credit for your successes. Inferiority is a state of mind in which you've declared yourself a victim. Do not allow yourself to be victimized. Express yourself, whether it is through art, music, writing, etc. Find something you enjoy. Everyone is born with talents and strengths. Be Positive, even if you don't feel the same way. Avoid self-pity, or the pity and sympathy of others. Never allow others to make you feel inferior--they...

Communication Skills

...I have always been a capable communicator when it comes to my work but when it comes to my personal life I am not so good. The approach I use at work being straight forward and to the point is not so good at home when communicating with my wife. She tells me all the time that I need to think before I say it. I am very good with employees by listing to them and communicating my instructions to get a job done. I tend to communicate with a blunt and to the point approach with a clear approach when at work. I have found that employees want to know what the message is and not to beat around the bush. When being direct all the time it is hard to switch that off when you’re at home. When it comes to e-mails I have made an effort to soften my tone and choose of words. I have tried to step back and ask myself if I would get upset if someone sent me that e-mail. I do not send e-mails when I am upset if I do have to send a tough e-mail I will write the e-mail and set on it for a while and come back to it before hitting send. Problem-Solving Skills: Score 56 This assessment surprised me; I have always felt I have been confident in my problem solving skills. When I was a production manager I was able to resolve an issue quickly and with good results. You learn in the automotive industry you have to be quick on your feet when there are issues. You have to act now or production lines stop. That would be a reason I tend to jump to solutions. I have taken a field assignment with my company...

Cause of Lack of Self Confidence

...Safety Management Safety Management Improving Business Outcomes Behavior-based safety techniques can influence organizational performance By Treasa M. Turnbeaugh O ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE is an important consideration in managing a firm’s overall success. Management can set goals and objectives, assign responsibilities and accountabilities, and monitor business outcomes and processes, but it must also consider the context in which all of these initiatives occur. Organizational culture is difficult to define and cannot be measured in a direct manner as it is a soft social science issue rather than a standardized quantitative measure. To confound matters, subcultures often exist within organizations that may or may not be cohesive with the firm’s overall goals and values. One such subculture is workplace safety. Workplace safety is an important factor for organizations as it affects virtually all other elements of an organization, including production, quality, job satisfaction and expenses. One approach to controlling workplace safety is the concept of behavior-based safety (BBS), a process by which all levels of an organization participate in improving specific safety-related issues by addressing actions (behavior). An interesting anecdotal finding pertaining to BBS is that it indirectly affects other business outcomes as well. Organizational Culture Organizational culture is a difficult concept to define and to measure, much less to understand and ...

Confidence

...Things I Need To Work On and Things That I Am Confidence In There are many personal motivations that I need to work on to be honest, but the two main ones are my confidence and managing my time. Sometimes I feel like I have no confidence in myself in whatever I’m doing so I tend to give up easily, not because I want to but the faith I have in myself is low so I can’t get the job done. To me people have more confidence in me which I find to be bad because I’m supposed to have confidence in myself not people having more confidence than me in myself, and as of right now I’m working on building that self-confidence for myself because it will make me a better person. I don’t managing my time wisely which is my biggest down fall and I think it will hurt me later on in life. I tend to do things that are fun whenever I got homework to do or when I have something important that has to be done which cause me to have no self-management at all over my time, also I don’t take responsibility for own behavior or well-being. This is because if you have an attitude towards me instead of me walking away I will have one with you too and that will just take up my time when I can be doing something productive with my time like reading a book or doing homework. I also look out for other instead of looking out for me which is kind of bad because I’m supposed to look out for me first before I look out for anybody else well-being. I have some areas that I am confident in like for example being...

Tips for Parents of Gifted Girls

...Parental Tips for Raising Gifted Girls The following tips will be helpful to parents and family members of gifted girls to stimulate the development of the gifted girl’s self-esteem and confidence. 1. As parents, be coaches, not judges. Coaches encourage, have high expectations, praise, criticize, and set limits, but children believe coaches on the same team. Parents who are continuously judgmental alienate their children because children feel like they are against them. 2. Emphasize intelligence, hard work, independence, sensitivity, and perseverance in your daughters. De-emphasize the importance of appearance. Relationships that are appearance-based fade as may pretty appearances. 3. Set as high expectations for your daughters as for your sons. 4. Teach healthy competition. Encourage the exhilaration of winning, but don't always let girls win. Winning builds confidence; losing builds character. 5. Don't pressure your daughters to fit in socially. Many girls feel different during adolescence. Help them to feel comfortable with their differences and redirect their energies toward positive activities. 6. Encourage your daughters to be involved in all-girl activities like Girl Scouts, and consider all-girl classes or schools if boys cause them to lose confidence or distract from their learning. 7. Encourage your daughters to read stories about successful women. This helps to build positive role models. 8. Don't let birth order get in the way of giving...

Gen 200

...Research Strategy Paper on the Lack of Self-Confidence GEN/200 Research Strategy Paper on the Lack of Self-Confidence Johnson Pope, an English poet, said, “Self-confidence is the first requisite to great undertakings.” However, I definitely do not have that quality. Self-confidence describes a person who has faith on themselves. A problem that affects me every day is my lack of self-confidence. My self-confidence affects me in my decision making, career, and social skills. It also affects me when I am passing up opportunities that can be rewarding. An example how my self-confidence affects me is when I will not stand a chance competing against another person. I do not do well in a challenge. I give in easily. I doubt about myself and my abilities to do any task. The fear of rejection and failure hunts me every day. My lack of self-confidence overly preoccupies me with what others think. What I need to do is build confidence and take charge of my life to overcome my problem. One of the methods I can use to work on my self-confidence is looking for a support group. They are a lot of internet support groups or blogs about self-confidence that I can rely for support. I feel that if I can share my feelings without face-to-face time, I can open up more to my feelings and assist me better. Another place that I can use to gather information is to see a Psychologist. Psychologists are trained individuals and with a tremendous amount of experience that can be use in assist...

Being a part of the Documentation Area, headed by Ms. Karla Aban, was a great opportunity for me to gain valuable experience and have a much better understanding of many things. This area has helped me to know myself better. It has taught me skills I will take with me to my future courses. Now I know how to use excel in encoding, contact people through e-mail, and gain deeper knowledge when it comes to different kinds of contracts used when purchasing a property. Also with the help of this practicum I was able to know how to set goals and be disciplined enough to reach those goals by the deadline. I kept a small notebook and wrote down each day what I needed to do. I also tried to break down longer tasks into smaller pieces. I always do ask my co-workers if there is anything I can do to help them. This experience has really forced me to become organized. Being able to organize will help me in everything I do in college and at work. Also one thing I learned from my co-workers is to not be afraid to ask for help. Key to Success

...with companions, trust, and time it can be come easy to reach. The sign of confidence is the "faith in oneself and one's forces or capacities." Everybody is inadequate with regards to trust in something; not everybody is great. Whether it be giving a discourse before the class, contending in a substantial rivalry, or tolerating one's appearance, some people do not have the confidence expected to appreciate life. Helen Keller said, "Positive thinking is the confidence that prompts accomplishment. There is no hope without trust and confidence." This quote is totally genuine in light of the fact that if one does not have certainty they can never accomplish or go past what they need to do. A few people have so much confidence that they do not have fear to do anything. Others are the complete inverse, and are frightened of being judged or scorned by others. Self-assurance can't be taught, yet is come to by the person when they choose to have faith in themselves. Keeping in mind the end goal to achieve fearlessness, one needs to accept that they can do the current workload. It can't be fulfilled overnight, yet gradually gets more grounded and more grounded more than a time of time. One of the significant approaches to acquire confidence is acting like one is sure, notwithstanding when not. Acting will move into genuinely being fearless and having high self-regard. Another approach to pick up confidence is by conversing with others. My sample of picking up...

Pros and Cons

...Dressing with confidence is more than wearing the latest fashion trend, it’s about feeling good about what you’re wearing, looking poised and feeling self-assured in all situations. Would you believe that something as simple as how you dress could affect your attitude and self-confidence? The truth is, how people dress is related in some way to how they feel. They feel first and dress later. Just think of a time when you didn’t feel well, did you want to pull out all the stops and dress smart? Not likely. You probably pulled on whatever was closest to you and dressed the way you felt – not that well. If we change the way we dress the way we feel will change. When we are dressed well and look good we automatically feel better. When we feel good we are more likely to feel good inside, have more energy and treat others better. You can boost your attitude, self-confidence and feel good about what you’re wearing if you: 1. Knowing the occasion 2. Know your audience 3. Know your personal style 4. Know the effects of colour http://www.selfgrowth.com/articles/Dress_with_Confidence_How_Dressing_Affects_Your_Attitude_and_Confidence.html Know Your Personal Style Your personal style is expressed in everything you do. Brilliant Public Speaking

...most interesting is to treat the presentation as if you are holding a conversation with the audience. We hold conversations every day so if the speaker feels like he or she is having a conversation the presentation will appear more natural. The first few moments are vital to the success of the performance. If a speaker appears comfortable and confident from the beginning, I think that the audience will be more accepting of mistakes later in the speech. If a speaker seems to be nervous and lacks confidence, the audience may not listen as intently as they should. The best advice that I could give someone about public speaking would be to know his or her subject. When I am speaking to an audience about something that I know and believe in, I am more confident and relaxed. Moreover, when I am speaking about something that I have recently learned I am worried that there may be information about the subject that I may not know yet. This perceived problem could cause a lack of self-confidence even if it is not true. In addition, I would advise them to relax, be themselves and do...

Perception / Attribution

...I believe that this experiment reinforces the fact that people's perceptions of other people are very powerful. If a person can project a very confident image (as is often the case with narcissists), people will attribute many other qualities to them as well, even though the person themselves does not possess these qualities. In this case, we could say the "halo effect" is in play here - "our evaluation of others is dominated by only one of their traits" (Osland et al, 2009, p. 224). In this case - their own self-belief/self-confidence causes team members to bestow them with all the other qualities that a good leader possesses. Another perceptual distortion that could also be in effect here is that of the perceptual defense (Osland et al, 2009, p. 225) - namely "defenses acting as a screen or filter, blocking out that which we do not want to see and letting through that which we wish to see". In this case, again, the narcissistic leader's self-confidence blinded the team members to his or her other flaws. I thought this article interesting, yet another illustration of the adage "Clothes make the man" -...
