...motivated. On the website of Reference for Business – Encyclopedia of Business, 2nd ed. in the article Employee Motivation it is stated that, “Employee motivation is the level of energy, commitment, and creativity that a company's workers apply to their jobs”. It explains that the motivation level represents the employees’ energy level and the strength of their commitment to the work and the organization. If the motivation levels are high, employees are more determined to work hard and more enthusiastic to take part in the success of the organization. In other words, the motivation works as a fuel for the employees of an organization to keep them engrossed to work with enthusiasm. As a manager this would be my one of the foremost duties to keep the employees motivated to accept and adapt the upcoming changes in the company. There are several techniques to keep the employees motivated and engaged in the company’s complacency. Every individual has specific qualities and specific preferences. Some individuals enjoy when they are given more responsibilities while others may feel more motivated when they are offered more rewards etc. So I would choose the motivation techniques on a case-to-case basis, but more importantly, I would make sure that the motivation is available for all the employees on regular and consistent basis. One of the very effective motivation techniques is to allot extra and higher...

Design/methodology/approach – Three survey instruments were administered to 297 working professionals taking business courses offered through a college of management at a private university. Correlational research methodology was used to investigate the relationships between selfattributed needs for achievement on demographic, interest and effort variables. Discriminant analysis was used to determine if motivational and profile characteristics could be used to predict low and high self-attributed need achievers. Findings – The major findings of this study centered on the leader’s ability to inspire followers by using a variety of interesting coaching techniques and by building their self-esteem regardless of achievement orientation. Research limitations/implications – The results of this study are tentative and need to be reproduced with a larger, more comprehensive sample of a broader population. ...Employee Motivation Motivation can be defined as: the psychological forces that push an individual’s behavior, effort, and level of persistence towards a certain direction. Motivation is, therefore, an important element an organization must consider when it wants to reach high levels of production and efficiency. In order to achieve the mentioned high production and efficiency levels, an organization must first understand what motivation is, how does it work, what are the classic motivational theories and techniques, and to use utilize those various techniques for optimum results. As explained above, motivation involves psychological forces that push employees into a desired direction accompanied with the appropriate level of behavior, effort, and persistence. From the definition, one would understand that motivation can work as an integral tool for goal and objective achievement. Motivation has several theories and techniques a firm must know to apply them on its employees: Motivational Theories: 1) Maslow’s hierarchy of needs: this comes as a no surprise since Maslow explained that motivation is based on a sequenced hierarchy of needs. The hierarchy starts with the lowest physiological needs (Food, sleep, sex), followed by safety needs (Job security and environment safety), social needs (feelings of belonging and love), self-esteem needs (feelings of importance, value, and meaningfulness), and ended by the highest need of self-actualization, which is described...

One of the responsibilities of this job is to enhance employees behavior toward tasks during the course of the year through food, money, praise, attention, stickers, good stars, privilege tokens, approval scholarship, candy, trophies, certificates, or awards. The responsibility of this position will also provide incentive programs that will increase the productivity of the employee’s as well as amplify the standing of the company compared to similar businesses within the area. ...and Workplace Rewards Assessment Aubrey Snyder Human Motivation PSY/320 July 25, 2011 Laurel Taron Job Redesign and Workplace Rewards Assessment Motivating employees demands a clear understanding of motivational theories and human behavior, alike. Only then will the employer be in a position to reach the true self of his or her employees. Understanding human behavior and motivation and in turn knowing how to apply this information to the workplace potential is essential to good management, which allows employers to successfully motivate employees as well as ensure employee satisfaction (Reeve, 2009). Employee motivation and satisfaction are positively related to performance and productivity. So, motivational strategies can purposefully be used as a catalyst that is very beneficial for the employer and the employee alike (Reeve, 2009). An organization’s success is built on its employees’ performance. Companies offer innovative ways to engage employee’s motivation, essentially enhancing the employee’s drive and determination. In addition to increasing motivation, companies create effective ways for employees to manage conflict. Without patience and care, an organization can be faced with damaging results. Each company has its own way of analyzing and resolving unwanted conflict, usually with the help of its ethics program. Employees play a major role in the company’s success. Therefore, conflict and motivation management should be created with employee’s needs and...

Leadership and Management Concept Leadership can be defined as the influence of an individual whom denoted as “leader”, upon the subordinates, for the achievement of organizational goal. Here, the leader should bear the quality to understand the situation and act upon so, and the action should be influential, motivational and goal oriented. Moreover, agreeing with the concept, leadership derives two aspects: (i) the leader who exerts influence and (ii) the individuals who are influenced. Thus, the success of Leadership depends upon the proper management of these two dynamics to a large extent. Likewise, Leadership should also posses different other qualities for better management of followers and lead the organization to its targeted goal. “The influential ability of a leader to effect the behavior of his followers to indirectly follow particular path as pre-defined by the leader” (Barnard, 1948) “Leadership can be defined as the mutual relationship between a leader and followers, strengthened...

...Employee Portfolio: Motivation Action Plan Creating a Motivational Plan As a manager of Riordan Manufacturing I have assessed three of my workers, created employee portfolios for them, and now I will determine which motivational strategies will work best for them. This week’s class discussion has focused on creating motivational strategies that are based on the individual characteristics of employees. These strategies are tailored to each worker’s traits, and therefore are more effective. In this essay I will discuss the motivational plans that I have chosen for each of my workers. Plan #1 Plan #1 is for my mother, Lynda, and for the purposes of this essay is an employee of Riordan Manufacturing. The summary of her individual characteristics is overall positive. She scored high in all categories of the assessment taken during week one of this class. She does not need any correction, but she can still use motivational techniques to enhance her performance at her job. I recommend both the Self-Efficacy Theory, and the Goal Setting Theory. The text states that, “Self-efficacy (also known as social cognitive theory or social learning theory) refers to an individual’s belief that he or she is capable of performing a task.” (Robbins & Judge, 2011, Chapter 7: Motivation Concepts). The text also states that it is even more beneficial when the Self-Efficacy Theory works in conjunction with the Goal Setting Theory. “Goal-Setting Theory addresses these issues, and the findings...

...Motivational Methods Motivational Methods Even though not every method will work for all employees, Motivation methods help keep everyone moving towards a positive goal because when moral is at a high level, then the motivation level will be high as well and Incentives, and open communications help with motivation. Downsizing can take a toll on a department and manager. So to help keep the moral and motivation up will be a challenge. The manager would have to reinsure all staff members that the downsizing will not happen often. First step will have the motivational sprit start from the managers, and show more effort towards the staff members. The most important reason Motivation methods help keep everyone moving towards a positive goal is because when moral is at a high level, then the motivation level will be high as well. There are many methods to use in order to keep the motivation flowing without missing a beat. To start with a strong foundation is to full fill the basic needs of all the employees, such as great working hours, breaks in between hours, and making work fun while making sure work is getting done. “Lower-level needs include physiological, safety and social concerns, while higher-level needs include esteem and self-actualization concerns” (Lombardi, D. N., & Schermerhorn, J. R. (2007). The basic motivation process such as “the equity, expectancy, and goal-setting theories each offer advice and insight on how people actually...

...effect on the learning environment (Kyriacou 1998). However, over the years theorists in educational psychology have viewed pupils’ motivation as one of the most important features that contribute to student learning (Chrisotphel 1990). Therefore, this essay will critically discuss motivation as a key factor that influences these three areas. According to Seifert (1999) motivation affects the amount of time and energy students are willing to devote to any task. If motivation is essential for learning students need reasons to expend the energy. Teachers are the main adults in students live for several hours during the week. Therefore teachers are given the opportunity to play a significant role in the pupil’s social and personal development (Woolfolk et al 2008). It is the teachers’ responsibility to establish such an environment, flourished with positive energy which enables pupils to reach their potential both academically and socially. Factors which influence Communication In order to motivate the students it is essential that the teacher has the necessary skills. Communication is of immense importance in relation to teaching skills. When communication is effective learning is easier, goals are more likely to be met and the classroom experience in general is more positive. In order to discuss the link between communication and motivation, communication must be explained. There are two types of communication, verbal and nonverbal. Verbal is carried out with words. In...

...Motivational Methods Christina Hilliard HCS 325 January 30, 2012 Susan McQuade Motivational Methods It is the conscientiousness of the manager to ensure their team is in high spirits. No matter how superfluous a job is, a manager must always encourage their team to be highly productive and successful. Managers are mentors, they are there to guide, encourage and educate nothing more and nothing less. Motivation methods are used in order to encourage productivity in the workplace. “Health care managers who lead teams and staff through motivation create conditions under which other people feel continually inspired to work hard and perform to the best of their abilities” (Lombardi & Schermerhorn, 2007). While there are many motivational techniques a manager can use, a manager should always choose the method that best suits the personalities in their team. Many people are motivated based on needs, others need health care managers to actively listen to their ideas, and some managers find motivating through job design to be ideal. Active listening is harder than it sounds. Successful managers do more than pay attention; he/she must genuinely care for the well-being of the team and never talk down to them. Listening is one of the most significant skills you can encompass. “How well you listen has a major impact on your job effectiveness and on the quality of your relationships with others (Manktelow, 2012).” Becoming an active listener takes work but will ensure the speaker’s...
